And from personal experience, I have seen gamblers saying that "if not gambling, they would died with starvation". Not necessarily that a gambler must win every day but they win once, twice or trice a week which they can use to buy food. And as for me anything you do to give you money once a while or regular and it is not your regular job is a side hustle. If this week is not good for you, it will goo foe another person and next week might be your turn.

You are not making money from gambling does not mean other are not cashing out. We have different luck in gambling. From all the examples I have shown. I want to know your experience and opinion if gambling is a side hustle or not. I need general opinion on the argument.

This is a 2 sided coin. So depending on the individual. Gambling is a full time side hustle for some people.  They've made it a mandatory thing for them selves that they do. Infact subconsciously they play it because its registered in their mind and its hard to even leave them. And you will be surprised as how massively these guys are cashing out from this gambling side hustle. 

While for others its just a fun getting activity and nothing more. So different people take gambling activities on different notes.  Either for the fun part or hustling part of it or for even getting information from it. Anyone is good to go.

I still will not consider gambling as a proper side hustle. Because the inconsistency alone is a big issue for me. Today you win, next day you lose, so it is not something I would say I can fully rely on like a source of income.

I just feel that is not stable, and anything that is not stable like that is hard for me to call a hustle.
But still, if it is working for people and they are comfortable with it, then who am I to argue… everyone has their own path and what works for them.

I would rather call winnings in gambling a kind of present from the universe or simply luck, rather than income. We can never be 100% sure that we will get money from our play, whereas a side job is essentially services that we provide and get paid for. You can consider it a side hustle if you earn a profit from it, just like people who take risks with trading and investing. However if your main goal isn’t profit, it’s better to treat it as a hobby rather than a side hustle.

I’m worried that if I treat my gambling hobby as a side hustle, it will put mental pressure on my mind to make a profit everytime I gamble. In reality, not everyone profits from gambling so right now, I just consider gambling a hobby that I do in my free time and nothing is forcing me to gamble.

If gambling is profitable for you always then you can take it as a side hustle but I don't know any gambler that is always sure of making profit from it. I personally could never consider gambling a side hustle. I think only the new gen of gamblers can call gambling a side hustle ...because everything seems to be a side hustle in 2026 for them .

Exactly, not just job, a small businesses can also be considered side hustles as long as they generate extra income. While you can make extra profit from gambling, it’s not guaranteed, and the risk is much higher. That’s why gambling can’t be considered a side hustle. Of course, it can be used as a side income, as long as the gambler actually makes money from winnings. But from this point of view, I am only concerned when gambling is seen as a source of income, even as a side one. There will eventually be more gamblers who make gambling their main income. How does gambling entertain you, because my experience in gambling I haven't been entertained any day. I feel you guys that says gambling is for entertainment doesn't know that entertainment is.  Gambling is a different thing and nothing is entertaining about it.

The outcome of every bet is unpredictable, and there is not full assurance that you will win at the end of the game. So I cannot consider something with unpredictable winnings as a side hustle or a reliable source of income. Because let's take salary for instance, at the end of every month each worker will be expecting it, why? Because they work hard for it, and paying them was guaranteed. That's right, gambling is not supposed to be played with the mindset that you will earn money because it is not a guarantee that you will make some money since it's a game of luck. The earlier we accept that the better so we can gamble without getting our emotions attached. It's not ideal to rely on gambling to earn because the real danger comes when you start seeing it as way to earn or make a living. By doing so you're already creating problems for yourself because it's not reliable and it will lead you to chasing after your losses and getting your emotions attached which can easily lead to addiction and financial losses.
