This isn’t as contradictory as it looks. China banning Bitcoin trading/mining doesn’t mean they ignore it — they study it. Teaching students about Bitcoin is more about understanding the technology and its impact, not necessarily promoting its use. Even central banks analyze crypto deeply: https://www.bis.org/publ/work1061.htmUnderstanding something doesn’t mean endorsing it.

China has banned the trading and mining of cryptocurrencies, but owning them is not prohibited, and apparently teaching about them is not prohibited either. Therefore, I don't see any controversy in teaching - anyone can learn something informative about Bitcoin without ever using it.
As much as some wonder why Bitcoin is not "welcomed" in China, perhaps they should study what communism is to get the answer to that question.

China, despite being extremely protective of its currency, hasn't completely ignored Bitcoin. They still allow people to learn about Bitcoin because it's a digital asset and widely used globally, so people are free to learn about it despite restrictions on its direct use in their country.
However, this isn't a direct government action, it's simply an effort undertaken by a few schools, so students may only be exposed to the basic concepts without actually engaging in practical use.

Do you think China's initiative with Bitcoin is positive for them or will it lead to Bitcoin becoming widespread in their country?
Many countries oppose the presence of Bitcoin in their society and many countries also legalize Bitcoin in their society. Strangely, even though we see China banning Bitcoin, the opposite is true. As of early 2026, the Chinese government is estimated to hold approximately 194,000 to 195,000 Bitcoin (BTC).
China is the 4th largest country that has Cryptocurrency Reserve by Country (2026): Who Has a Crypto National Reserve and Who Holds the Largest?, so question...! Are we currently being fooled by news about the government banning Bitcoin or only the government being allowed to own Bitcoin while society is being pressured by rules and laws.
So, the case where schools in China teach students to learn Bitcoin is not something strange and strange, students in China already understand Bitcoin, they know what is official and what is illegal, if you go to China you will see there are no signs of prohibiting Bitcoin there, in fact you will find Bitcoin legal there, schools have become special material for Bitcoin there.

Teaching them about bitcoin is not strange but since it is claimed that bitcoin is banned in china then it’s strange teaching about it except the lecture is about how not to use it and that it is banned in china, it’s like banning only fans and still teaching people about only fans. The content of the ban has more parts that are relevance in knowing the extent of the ban but I don’t know in details about it.
Students in mainland China have been receiving lessons on Bitcoin as part of their curriculum earlier this year. This educational initiative marks a significant step in integrating cryptocurrency knowledge into the academic framework, despite China's stringent regulations on digital currencies. The move aims to equip students with an understanding of blockchain technology and its applications, reflecting a growing global trend towards cryptocurrency education. I just got this information about integrating crypto education into students' curricula. Even if Bitcoin were banned, blockchain technology is an important aspect of the global economy. And this topic cannot be discussed without Bitcoin. Marijuana is banned in my country. But medical students are still exposed to the concept of the medical use of this drug. My take is that the banning of Bitcoin mining shouldn't stop students from learning about the technology.

Judging from the write-up I could see on the white board above, it seems those students were learning about money, since I could seethe question "What is Money?" boldly written on the board. And to be frankly speaking in this year 2026, the issue about money can never be complete without mentioning great assets like Bitcoin and Gold, since these two have proven over the years and decades of been a predominant factor that redefines what money is in this present era. So if a few groups of people in China might have seen this and thought it should be worth it educating the young minds about Bitcoin while they discuss about money, that was absolutely a brilliant idea, and it urges us all that while discussing about money with kids, let's not forget to also mention Bitcoin, because Bitcoin is indeed the money of the future.

I don’t think bitcoin is actually ban in china because how can bitcoin be banned but there are schools in china teaching about it to students, it does apply that the ban on bitcoin in china is not enforced or it’s just not true. China are law abiding and if they make a law they will make people to abide by the law. Maybe the ban comes with exceptions.
You need to be consistent with your argument. First, you said you were not sure if Bitcoin was banned. Your assumption was that it shouldn't be taught in schools if it were banned. Then I explained that Bitcoin is a currency and students need to learn all the types of money. I explained that Chinese students need to learn about Bitcoin because it's a global currency. If you look at some of the pictures closely you would see that the topic might be money since there are different currencies on the board. Even in primary schools children are taught about drug use and its consequences. The ban on the use of marijuana shouldn't stop such enlightenment because they might leave my country in the future. The same thing applies to Bitcoin, that students shouldn't be deprived of blockchain technology because Bitcoin is banned. China didn't ban teachings about Bitcoin but the use is prohibited.

In fact when it comes to Bitcoin, we think of China as being vehemently opposed to it because Bitcoin is banned in this country, yet they are in second place in terms of country-based Bitcoin holdings but in a surprising piece of news I noticed recently, students in this Asian country's mainland were being taught about Bitcoin earlier this year.
Surely those who have taken this initiative should be far-sighted because we can make some guesses their initiative may play a big role in spreading the Bitcoin acceptance rate among those young students in China.
Do you think China's initiative with Bitcoin is positive for them or will it lead to Bitcoin becoming widespread in their country?
I wonder what they must be teaching them, maybe they are changing their strategy; they will not force people to do something with laws and power. But maybe they will teach them how bad btc and other currencies can be for their economy. It is easy to brainwash someone when they are just a kid. But I am not saying that's what they are doing, because all I see is a class on the history of btc. Nothing more and it is really surprising for me that a school in China actually considered this. Talking and learning are not banned in China, but doing them is. But if they teach it, don't they think the students will start doing what they have prohibited them from doing now?

Do we need that to have Bitcoin educational exposure in mainland of China? I don't think we actually need it because we are in 2026 with very good Internet coverage globally, not only in China mainland, and there are enough resources to learn about Bitcoin, especially free and open source.
If we like to go by that narrative, a lot may activities would have being boycotted because, the internet remains a host of resources that cuts across every field. In fact, you can take classes and do courses completely online which would have made the need for a physical class to be entirely unnecessary but, we find out over and again that this isn’t usually the case. When lessons are being delivered in a face to face space, there is usually a feel about it and you get that interactive session that’s associated with some of the leaning process. That isa necessary step for some that the internet can’t offer you. Yeah, online resources help, but face to face learning still makes things easier, especially for beginners. Being able to ask questions directly really helps, even when learning how to use services like bitcoinbetting.

It is shocking to think that trading and owning is different. Did they clear this in any law, I mean is it official. Like is it okay for someone to hold bitcoin in china but they just can day trade or swing trade? If it's true then teaching can't be a question, but they are doing good because everyone should learn about it from a young age, that's how the economy grows, the kids there are already spending 12 hours at schools and spending most of their time in learning. Which seems super hard for kids but they do it. If they are learning about it at an early age then in a few years they will definitely know more than most of us know but in lesser time.

This is a expected by me because, the fact is that even in countries that may appear to oppose Bitcoin openly is aware of the benefits of Bitcoin. The problem may be from the government of the day which may not be in support of Bitcoin for reasons best known to them but, the fact remains that you can't remove the reality on ground that Bitcoin as a store of value serves as a store of value and is one thing that many people who are willing to beat the current economic situation that the world find itself will embrace.
I think that when it comes to education it is best appreciated when it is given to a person in the developing stage of life. That is why I am one of the person who believes that for the young generation to fully understand and adopt Bitcoin early education is needed. Teaching Bitcoin to this student is one of the keys to unlocking how these young once will grow and understand this technology called Bitcoin, which will influence their decision when it comes to acceptance level going into the future.

I can't seem to open the link. But regardless, it's still better to have that privilege to be introduced to Bitcoin at an early age (the students seem young so I guess they're in highschool?) Having basic knowledge and introduction about Bitcoin is great cause you're giving the younger ones the advantage of learning it. Then it's up to them if they get interested and are willing to dig deeper on their own.
But based on what others have said too, if there's a prohibition of Bitcoin in China, how are they gonna apply the knowledge they learned if it's banned? Like if a student gets interested after learning them in class, how can they make use of it?

A country that consistently prioritizes technological advancement and encourages the next generation to carry on the work of the current generation will always prepare for all of this as early as possible. If that country is reported to be opposing the concept of a new system for the future in a particular sector, I see that as a strategy. I view that as positive. When the media reported that China was very harsh toward the Bitcoin system, I questioned it and thought more that it was just their strategy. The world is already advanced and will become even more so. If there are still many vehicles using gasoline today, it is because people of that generation are still alive, but quite a few vehicles being produced no longer use gasoline, but rather electricity and green energy using lithium. I bring that up as an example.

Since it's posted in the public, I guess that its government have already lifted any ban that they have put into Bitcoin and mining.
They cannot ignore how profitable it can be if many of their new generation are going to be part of this growth.
The benefit that they can get aside from the economic help it can contribute, it's the same for the individuals that might pursue their investment on it because they now have an idea about it.

Do you think China's initiative with Bitcoin is positive for them or will it lead to Bitcoin becoming widespread in their country?
China is a highly technologically advanced country. Their human resources are also highly adaptable, utilizing, and optimizing technology very quickly. They are everywhere and can adapt very easily, especially when it comes to this technology. Whether this curriculum will be implemented in the future or not, this is a very good step. It introduces the younger generation to the world of cryptocurrency. They are also at a mature age to be involved with crypto. Although, of course, we still don't fully understand the content and purpose of this curriculum. However, this is certainly a good step forward.

Strangely, even though we see China banning Bitcoin, the opposite is true.
As of early 2026, the Chinese government is estimated to hold approximately 194,000 to 195,000 Bitcoin (BTC).
~snip~ Even if it is true that they have that much BTC, it is the result of seizures and is not treated as a strategic reserve. Therefore, we cannot say that China has changed its position on cryptocurrencies (especially Bitcoin) in any way, but that it still prohibits trading and mining. I don't understand why so many people don't understand the difference between what is forbidden and what is permitted - one has no necessary connection with the other.

With the Chinese government's side-eye view of Bitcoin, I see that what the school is doing is quite strange.. even though the Chinese government does not prohibit people from knowing Bitcoin, but students are taught something that even its use is restricted by the government, so it is likely that they only understand the general concepts, but are not free to use it which is rather unfortunate because these children should be free to use Bitcoin. but that is the communist view of the Chinese government, which burdens them to fully accept Bitcoin.

I could never understand the true status imposed against bitcoin in China. Are they allowing it or not? they say China bans bitcoin and mining activities yet they have 15% of global bitcoin hashrate. The government holds 190k bitcoin and there are tons of chinese holding bitcoin. I bet it's prohibited but not really enforced. They should just go ahead and embrace bitcoin, treat it like any other digital asset.

From their activities, it looks like they are not really concerned about strictly banning bitcoin and mining. On one side, bitcoin mining is declared illegal but at the same time, students are openly being taught to learn about bitcoin. If they were serious about enforcing the ban, this kind of open learning wouldn’t be happening. The government also hasn’t taken strong action on it, so it feels like they may be moving gradually toward allowing bitcoin legally in china.
