This is quite interesting as South Africa keeps topping the chart on BTC ATM in the African soil. I am happy that the African nations are not left out of the adoption, as we can see that the majority of the African nations are already in the know and are working out modalities in making sure they have their own share of the bitcoin experience through their policies and laws to regulate the cryptocurrency activities in their countery. This shows how fast Africa could be developed in the years to come and also the ability to quickly adopt new technology without wasting much of time.

I want to believe that the day behind establishing a bitcoin ATM is filled in already because of so many disadvantages that come along with using one, I have a few reasons why this is like this.
1. High cost of maintaining one 2. Scarcity in the number of available machines 3. High transaction fee cost

Africa is definitely looking up to Bitcoin as a good currency of value that's why a country like Nigeria, yet haven't fully adopted Bitcoin as a legal tender but accepts it for tax and remittances payment and considers it as an asset to invest in. This country am sure ranks above South Africa in Bitcoin awareness though, but South Africa have gone a step further to show it can manage systems that facilitate a structural integration showing open adoption, therefore making easy usage of Bitcoin with this ATM machine possible, because it is a committed effort for betterment of the economy and a show of an open acceptance of Bitcoin as a currency that can be used for commerce. Although Bitcoin can't be withdrawn from these ATM machines because it isn't a physical currency but a digital one, am sure the goal of these ATM machines coupled with whatever cards comes with it for the transaction, serves to easily swap Bitcoin from a wallet address to a more stablecoins or fiat currency equivalent for withdrawal or transfer or for payment purposes.

South Africa have topped other African countries in the number of Bitcoin ATMs there are roughly 15 - 20+ Bitcoin ATMs in various locations,
Based on CoinATMradar, it has a 33 in different location not only 20 ATMs. But still that's a goods news that until now it keeps growing the number of ATMs in south africa which makes people will explore more in Bitcoin. IMO, Bitcoin ATM is for only those people who are new in crypto, we have exchange that is very convenient to buy crypto. Bitcoin ATM also has a higher fees compared to exchange which I dont think it's practical to buy Bitcoin.

Exchanging Bitcoin between Fiat cards or a dedicated Bitcoin card is a dream come through for many citizens that get Bitcoin going for them South Africa have take a step further with this development. More ATMs will increase the adoption of bitcoin because it widens the reach of bitcoin. Meaning bitcoin would be everywhere and importantly this helps the coexistence of fiat and bitcoin because it caters for both.

Believe me, some countries would find it difficult to accept bitcoin as a legal tender constitutionally because if they do, their own local currency would go on extinct as their nationals would prefer using bitcoin on a daily basis because of the fact that they have sole ownership over it and no third party is involved. It is true that Nigeria has not accepted bitcoin as a legal tender but only as an asset that could be traded at anytime so by law, bitcoin is recognised by Nigeria and that shows that Nigeria is in the mainstream of crypto and bitcoin activities in the world.

Those you have mentioned are the reasons why btc ATMs are not that very successful as the maintenance is quite significant. Hence, they need to increase the transaction fees in order to cover their operational expenses. And with today's technology, you can just trade over the net, and transfer it to your bank account or any other means for a small fee. But seeing physical ATM portals is actually a good one as it means it may entice some adoption from the local community.

Maybe this is not really relevant or important but I was actually expecting to see where it is boldly written that this is a bitcoin atm but unfortunately, non of such was written anywhere except I did not see it. And yeah, I definitely saw that "crypto express" stuff written on the screen of the atm machine but I don't think this is good enough to convince me that that is really a bitcoin ATM, but all the same, there's definitely nothing I want to do with being sure if that is a bitcoin ATM or not.. Personally, I do not like bitcoin Atm, I agree that they may have contributed a bit to the adoption of bitcoin but honestly speaking, the charge is usually on the high side, I will prefer selling my bitcoin through p2p than use a bitcoin ATM, this machines (to me) are currently a disguised way to rob people off their precious bitcoins through fees/atm charges.

If its just for plain adoption, I would really appreciate to see more bitcoin ATM's around.
However, we're all aware that bitcoin atm transactions are quite more expensive so if you are only buying a minimal amount of bitcoin, the rate of transaction will never create a fair justice. Even those rich people who are looking for more convenience will probably won't bite the offer as well, so I would say its good for mere adoption, but not for our convenience.
But I still wish to see even a single machine nearby, since honestly, I have not touched a physical bitcoin atm machine.

I guess it's a cool story, but I wonder what the number is for this. Do they see an increase in ATM transactions that they open a new one? I'd expect the arrival of privacy-focused instant swap or exchanges to attract users who want to swap their Bitcoin for fiat/stablecoin without needing an ATM to do so.
Anyway, in my country, the story of Bitcoin ATMs seems to have stopped. People moved on to exchanges since they're regulated and offer more products, I guess. Not that I'm going to use them regularly in the first place.
Yeah, it depends on the region. Most people prefer exchanges now since they’re easier, but Bitcoin still gets used in different ways, even on platforms like bitcoinbetting.

For me, I have no pleasure in touching a bitcoin atm knowing fully well that I will not use it, there is basically nothing different from a bitcoin from the normal fiat atms that we all are already familiar with except for minor redesigns here and there.. And i can tell you that those who actually use a bitcoin atm may not even be using it for convenience sake but rather for curiosity or show off sake, because talk about convenience, which is more convenient to from at the comfort of your bedroom or sitting room sell or buy bitcoin online through p2p trading on one of this exchanges, and having to travel miles to locate the nearest bitcoin atm to buy or sell your bitcoins on, and with heavy fees too? Until bitcoin atms become more rampant, creating a big competition that will force every one who owns a machine to bring their fees down significantly, I may never use a bitcoin atm no matter how rich I become.

What make it unattractive to me is the high fees and also certain risk that might expose us. This is why I prefer to use the traditional option we know or those exchange when trying to withdraw my funds since I think they are more safe and convenient to use. Compare on crypto ATM's on which we need to go to those places on which that machine been installed. Also yeah maybe if there's lots of competitors enter on Bitcoin ATM market maybe it can force those operators to lower down their fees. Hopefully we will see that time to happen and lots of Bitcoin ATM will exist with cheap fees on our places.

Yes, that's true. That's one of the reasons I've found about Bitcoin ATM in Africa and it's likely the same for other countries, high transaction fees, which makes them less successful in those countries. Another drawback I've found is that the purchase price is a bit higher than buying bitcoin on an exchange, and I also think there might be the same liquidity limitations as with conventional ATM.

You are making a point here, looking at it from the other angle, and security otherwise, the rich who are into bitcoin might not see it as convenient for them to use the atm because eyes would likely be on them, and that would not guarantee their safety. Even from the ATM cams, you never can tell who is watching you through the security camera installations within the vicinity where the ATM is located while you do your transaction. So I will agree with you when it comes to convenience as it relates to the bitcoin ATM usage.

Maybe this is not really relevant or important but I was actually expecting to see where it is boldly written that this is a bitcoin atm but unfortunately, non of such was written anywhere except I did not see it.
The Bitcoin ATMs shown in the image prominently display the Mastercard and VISA logos. This suggests that these ATM providers prioritize Mastercard or Visa debit cards over Bitcoin debit cards (if they even exist). The Bitcoin or Crypto Express feature on these ATMs could be considered an additional feature they offer. This isn't a bad thing, as these ATMs could increase adoption, and the providers believe in broader crypto transactions in the future. However, I currently believe the concept of Bitcoin ATMs is irrelevant due to high maintenance costs and transaction fees, which are certainly much higher than making direct transactions over the internet. One of the most significant benefits of these ATMs, in my opinion, is that users can buy Bitcoin directly using a Mastercard or Visa debit card. However, I don't know if this feature actually exists.
