Is this an abuse of merit & something else or maybe I got it wrong?

Recently, I was going through posts on my local board and I noticed something that felt a bit strange. A simple reply post was given 50 merit, which honestly surprised me. I don’t understand how a regular reply like that could receive such a high amount of merit. If the post was really outstanding then it would make sense but in this case, it doesn’t seem deserving of 50 merit at all.



Not only that, after sending 50 merit, the same person also sent 20 merit to another simple post. It felt suspicious to me, so I checked the profile and saw that the person suddenly became active and started giving out merit like that.



How do you all see this merit system being used? To me, it feels like there might be some misuse happening. Normally, people get merit as a reward for good posts but giving that much merit to such simple posts looks quite questionable.


Looking at the condition of the account that sent the merit, it feels even more suspicious. It seems like the account might have been hacked from the real owner.

Apparently, this is a stupid way to send merits; the account may have been hacked or those merits may have been sold.
Unless there are strong links between these accounts, all that can be done is to add neutral trust.
@allthingsluxury is not a merit source (that mean will not be able to generate more merits) Therefore, it will not be a problem.

According to bpip, the allthingsluxury account has had its password changed five times this month. I suspect the account was hacked/sold, and for someone who hasn’t been active in the forum for the last 6 years, isn’t it strange that their first action since their return is to visit a new local baked and hand out merits. I don’t think it is unreasonable to assume that the smerits were sent to other farm accounts.

At first glance, it is clear that the account  @allthingsluxury has changed hands and then spread its merits to accounts from a very old farm. At least one account CryptoATM somehow remained without a negative tag, while all of his "colleagues" were caught abusing the bounty. We can expect further merit exchanges from these accounts to our alternative accounts.

What is clear in this case is that the allthingsluxury is a hacked account. Those merits were sendable merits in the account that were quickly sent to new accounts the hacker might be Farming.  There is rarely any possibility that someone will coincidentally share 50 merits to a small account in a local board he was not active in. It is a matter of time before more information emerges from those new accounts because the forum is very sensitive.

While raising one issue, another possible cheating concern also came up. What makes it more suspicious to me is that the user is not active on the forum but immediately showed up to post right after being mentioned. That part really feels unusual. My question is, when he received 50 merit for such a post, shouldn’t he have been curious himself about why that kind of post got so much merit? Also, since there are links to bounty abuse issues, it raises more doubts and it feels possible that he might have other alternative accounts on the forum.
