1. 🔹 IntroductionHostDec is a decentralized domain protocol built on Arbitrum that allows users to register .hostdec names as NFTs and link them to content hosted on IPFS.
The goal is to offer an alternative to traditional DNS, where domain ownership belongs entirely to the user — no intermediaries, no annual renewals.
Through a web dApp and a desktop browser with native resolution, HostDec allows users to register, publish, and browse decentralized sites simply, without extensions or advanced technical configuration.
The protocol integrates three main layers:
- Smart contract on Arbitrum for domain management
- IPFS storage infrastructure
- Navigation client with native .hostdec domain resolution
---
2. 🔹 What is HostDec?HostDec is a decentralized hosting protocol that transforms domains into user-owned digital assets through NFTs.
Each .hostdec domain is an ERC-721 token on the Arbitrum network, meaning control of the domain belongs exclusively to the wallet holding the NFT. Transferring the token is equivalent to transferring the domain.
Unlike the traditional domain system (DNS), HostDec eliminates intermediaries and centralized dependencies. There are no annual renewals or risk of loss through third parties: the domain is perpetual and secured by the blockchain.
The content of each domain is not hosted on traditional servers, but on IPFS, a distributed network where files are accessible via unique identifiers (CIDs). This makes sites resistant to censorship and centralized infrastructure failures.
HostDec is not just a domain system, but a complete protocol that integrates registration, storage, and resolution in a single decentralized architecture.

3. 🔹 Key FeaturesDomains as NFTs (ERC-721) Each .hostdec domain is a unique token on the Arbitrum blockchain. Ownership is fully the user's and can be freely transferred between wallets.
No renewals or recurring payments Unlike traditional DNS, domains are perpetual. They are registered once and require no annual maintenance.
Decentralized hosting on IPFS Site content is stored on IPFS via CIDs, eliminating dependence on centralized servers.
Native resolution in a dedicated browser .hostdec domains can be browsed directly from a desktop browser designed to resolve them without extensions or additional configuration.
Integrated marketplace Domains can be freely bought and sold as NFTs, with transparent on-chain transactions.
Low costs and high speed Built on Arbitrum, the protocol offers fast transactions and minimal fees.
Full user control The NFT owner has complete control over the domain, its content, and its transfer — no intermediaries.
Complete decentralized architecture HostDec integrates smart contract, distributed storage, and navigation client into a single coherent system.

4. 🔹 How does it work? The HostDec usage flow is designed to be simple and straightforward. From registration to browsing, the process comes down to four steps:
Step 1. Domain registration The user connects their wallet in the dApp, chooses an available name, and executes the transaction. The contract on Arbitrum registers the domain and mints an ERC-721 NFT representing its ownership.
Step 2. Publishing content on IPFS The website is uploaded to IPFS using any pinning service. The result is a CID (Content Identifier) pointing to the content.
Step 3. Linking the domain to the content The user associates the CID with their domain through a transaction that stores it in the smart contract. This establishes what content will be displayed when the domain is resolved.
Step 4. Resolution and browsing When entering a .hostdec domain in the HostDec browser, the client queries the blockchain to retrieve the CID and loads the content directly from IPFS.

Its primary function is to serve as the payment method for registering .hostdec domains. The cost varies based on name length, where shorter domains are scarcer and priced higher.
Token usage is directly tied to protocol utility, as it is required to execute the registration function in the smart contract.
Before registering a domain, the user must approve HDEC spending by the contract. This process is handled automatically by the dApp.
HostDec does not rely on inflationary mechanisms or participation rewards. The token serves a specific function within the system: enabling access to domain registration and its assignment on the blockchain.
---
6. 🔹 Smart ContractThe smart contract is the core of the HostDec protocol. It manages domain ownership, stores references to IPFS content, and executes registration and update operations.
The system is deployed on the Arbitrum network, enabling fast transactions with reduced costs while maintaining Ethereum ecosystem security.
Each domain is represented as an ERC-721 NFT, where ownership of the token equates to full control of the domain. The contract's main functions allow registering domains, associating IPFS CIDs, and querying the status of each domain.
Contract administration is protected through a security scheme based on timelock and multisig. This means any critical change requires multiple signatures and a waiting period before execution, reducing the risk of unilateral actions.
The contract code is publicly verified, allowing any user to audit its functionality and behavior on the blockchain.
---
7. 🔹 DApp (hostdec.com)The HostDec dApp is the main interface for interacting with the protocol. From there, users can register domains, manage their content, and operate within the ecosystem easily.
The registration process is guided step by step: the user connects their wallet, checks domain availability, and executes the transaction directly from the interface.
Once the domain is registered, the dApp allows users to associate and update the IPFS CID, check domain status, and view its blockchain history.
It also includes an integrated marketplace where users can list and acquire domains as NFTs, with transparent transactions.
The interface is designed to simplify interaction with the smart contract, removing the need for advanced technical knowledge to use the protocol.
---
8. 🔹 Desktop BrowserHostDec includes a desktop browser specifically designed to resolve .hostdec domains natively, without extensions or additional configuration.
The browser directly integrates a resolution engine that queries the Arbitrum blockchain to retrieve the CID associated with each domain. When the user enters a .hostdec address, the client automatically retrieves the active CID from the smart contract and loads the content from IPFS transparently.
This approach delivers a browsing experience similar to the traditional web, but completely decentralized — no DNS, no centralized servers.
The current version is available for Windows as a standalone application, with no complex installation or special permissions required. Support for macOS and Linux is planned for Phase 2 of the roadmap (Q3–Q4 2026).
---
9. 🔹 SecurityHostDec's security is designed to minimize risks and prevent unilateral control over critical functions.
The contract code is verified and publicly available on Arbiscan, allowing any user to audit its functionality and behavior on the blockchain.
Domain ownership is directly tied to possession of the corresponding NFT. There are no centralized mechanisms that can reverse or interfere with domain ownership without the wallet owner's consent.
Using IPFS as the storage system eliminates dependence on single servers, reducing points of failure and increasing the resilience of published content.
Upon completion of the beta phase, contract administration will be protected through a timelock and multisig system, requiring multiple authorized signatures and a waiting period to execute any sensitive action. Additionally, a formal security review is planned in Phase 1 of the roadmap, prior to mainnet deployment.
