Here's an example of sending merits to his alts. Are you going to red tag him?
Did I say that I would automatically tag anyone who sends merit to his alt? Ok, there might be some very rare exceptions, but in 99.99% of the cases, those who merit their own alts probably have bunch of more that just hasn't been caught yet.

That's what I was saying earlier. In the end, I'm wondering if we're not basically saying the same thing, but are just arguing over a matter of nuance.

I know one has the right to send any number of merit to any post he likes.

I just want to ask this question.

If someone sent 10, 30, or 50 merit to another member on a post post that is really not that good but just okay, and that user that was sent that merit has not sent back merit to the user that sent him that amount of merit, can it be said that or called merit abuse.

At what point can someone TAG a user for merit abuse, or at what point can it be said a user has abused the merit system.

Is it only when merit is distributed between two or more people, we all send merit to each other so at what point can it be called merit abuse.

Edit: look at this POST can it said what happened their was merit abuse.

You just said it in your opening body that "one has the right to send any number of merit to any post he likes. So why will you come down and say "to a post that is really not good, just okay?" So that means you're trying to make choices for the person who merited the user? And of what concern is it to you if the recipient doesn't reciprocate the "favor " because it looks like a favor now. There's nothing like merit abuse in this instance because it was a voluntary act by that giver so I don't see why this should be the big deal? Or is there something you're are not really saying?
Also threads like this have been talked about in the past. Will I say because it has been discussed, I'd call it "topic abuse?"..

Edit; although upon look on the topic of discussion, it's worthy of raising eyebrows. Still, until there's a proper way to frustrate these alt farmers, I think this is something we'd keep experiencing till everyone gets too tired to even be concerned anymore.

For me, that's technically a merit abuse.

But the twist s that no one can morally sanction those accounts because "what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander." Many reputable members do this a lot, to the point that I wonder why???

You see, merit sending of a thing is not well-defined, so there's an extended grace and liberty to what people can arguably do with it.

The quality of the post does not deserve that amount of merit. Assuming the merit came from a merit source, we would have assumed they have alot of merits and probably want to empty some.

But the twist s that no one can morally sanction those accounts because "what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander." Many reputable members do this a lot, to the point that I wonder why???

It is well defined and the key point is that theymos doesn't want anything that will encourage smerits hodling. As long as it is flowing, it's okay and as long as you dump it on a quality post. Meanwhile, quality to an extent is subjective. So, the sender can claim that a particular post is quality to them.

What merit abuse really is maybe but not limited to;
  • Merit selling
  • Merit sharing among your alt
Well, I cannot remember another. But if anyone does, I will appreciate they add to by only two lists above.
