 I plan to buy the product in the link i sent you. i wanted to ask you before buying. do you think metamask is just enough? or is it appropriate for me to buy this product? do you think this metemask is reliable? i use chorame and firefox. will it be enough to run it on these browsers? let's say i bought trezor, taxation does not cause problems, should i continue with the web wallet?

Definitely not. You should always buy a hardware wallet (Trezor or any other manufacturer) through the official website or their certified third party sellers.

A second hand hardware wallet might be cheaper but could also be tempered with.

If you're looking for a good deal, you might need to wait until the next Black Friday. (I can't remember if they usually have a sale during the year aside from Christmas and valentine's day)

A hardware wallet makes most sense if you are holding a decent amount of money. If you have thousands of dollars, and the plan is to continue to accumulate more then get one as soon as possible, you will sleep better at night.

Metamask on its own is only fine for amounts you can afford to lose. Since it is a hot wallet that is connected to your browser, there is definitely a considerable level of risk. If the price of a Trezor is too high, then you might consider looking into how Safe multisigs work. Safe Wallet is a good option if security is your main concern, however, there is a bit of a learning curve and some compatibility issues with certain DeFi apps.

In my opinion, a Trezor is always a great option, and you can use it with Electrum for BTC and Metamask for DeFi, EVM networks, etc

MetaMask is a hot wallet. Trezor is one of the best hardware wallets. A quality hardware wallet beats a hot wallet any day of the week.
If you are looking to spend less than the price right now, wait for a promotion. Trezor has a couple a few times a year. I suggest you follow their social media accounts, like the one on X. Check back from time to time to see if they have a running promotion. In the past, it was possible to purchase their various products with discounts of 10% to 50% off.

Krux is a bitcoin-only airgapped hardware wallet. I am sure it won't be suitable for OP's needs. Since he uses MetaMask, it's fair to assume that he holds Ethereum, Ethereum-based tokens, or assets on some of the other EVM-compatible blockchains. Krux doesn't do that.

Although, (obviously you own alts,) for your hardware secured wallets you might find that the Trezor Suite desktop application is a better alternative to MetaMask.  You can have both installed and access the same wallets from either interface, and you never have to choose between them if you don't want to.  Flip a coin to decide which one you want to use today.

You made a good point, that's one of the advantages of using hardware wallets. You can use compatible software wallets as a bridge (using only the interface resources), while transactions are signed in the isolated environment of the device. I've mostly used Trezor through the interface of other apps. The security remains exactly the same.

So @OP if you like Electrum, you can use Trezor integrated with Electrum, the same goes for Metamask, even though Trezor Suite already has everything a beginner user needs.

I would choose Trezor without hesitation and wouldn't waste time comparing other devices. I would buy starting with the Trezor Safe 5 onward, which is touchscreen...

My only alternative to Trezor is Bitbox02 (legacy or nova). Now, when it comes to airgapped wallets, I would recommend Krux, Coldcard or Passport Prime...

I would only consider a secondhand hardware wallet if I personally knew the individual selling it. For example, someone I know in real life. That rules out anyone from the forum. But even then I would like to see where and how the person purchased that wallet to make sure it's legit.

A newbie with limited resources could see such an ad on Bitcointalk by a member of a high rank and consider purchasing it if they need a hardware wallet but don't want to invest too much. Rank and trustworthiness often go hand in hand, and so they might leave their guard down and go for a secondhand device.

Personally, I think that's high risk and not just because you might get scammed and buy a manipulated/backdoored product. You don't know how the person handled it. It might be close to breaking and out of support & warranty.

You can't really compare hot wallets that only work in browser via installed extensions, with hardware wallets like trezor.
I stopped using metamask long time ago and you can do most things with trezor suite, excluding use of some dex exchanges.
If you want hot wallet alternative for metamask, than Rabby is a decent alternative, but Trezor is better and it can be used with Bitcoin.

That is exactly the point.

Trezor will manage your private keys, and metamask is an interface to use web3 features.
Just like Electrum is an interface to use bitcoin blockchain features

I think you will end up using both Metamask and electrum with trezor. And metamask is much more speciallized software for EVM blockchains  , and will have more features and maybe more control over fees, nft etc.

We can change the passphrase and check for the firmware authenticity before using the wallet. In very rare cases, the hardware wallet is physically tampered with, and even if it is, it can be checked by the firmware. Correct
