It's a bit difficult to see any sector functioning without corruption in Nigeria be it private or public sector and the common Man funds it difficult to succeed even when a position is merited by a person they give it to the highest bidder, Godfatherism is one of such cases where a politician can wake up any morning and handpicks who he wants to be governor of a State and it stands because he has bought everyone over.

As I listen to the MD of Dangote Refinery on top wetin him talk about Nigerian government, the thing off me completely becuase how will over 40 establishments be taxing a refinery established newly to cater for the needs of the people domestically after the government have failed to do so for many years now. I wonder what is wrong with our politicians and why they have turn corrupttion to the order of the day. I am so sad and ashamed of my country to have belong at a time like this when other countries are standing in for themselves, withstanding both domestic and foreign misconducts and maladministration, my country is still battling with their corrupt leaders with the corruption plummeting at a great instance every day.

I agree with your point, the part about putting trusted Allie’s In position and that creates a cycle where the same mindset continues and it becomes harder for any outsider to break in but at the same time I won’t say it is impossible to rise without connection though it is harder but yes it is not entirely possible( what God cannot do does not exist). For me I just feel that this whole connection thing has started to overweigh competence and that is what needs to be changed because when connection becomes more important than competence, the growth of any nation becomes very difficult.

Corruption is bad, and kills a country's reputation. Honestly, their is no orderliness in the country, and the major cause of this corruption is the government. The leaders are corrupt and they have also corrupt the Judicial system as well. The policies they make is to favour themselves first before any other person, if at all their intention is to favour any other person .

Gaining good job in Nigeria has become a thing of connection. If you don't have someone at the top or recommended by any big politician, nothing for you. Passing job interview no longer give you a job but connection. A country like this, does not offer hope to the common citizens, and is absolutely very discouraging.

You are very correct OP and sadly, this is what we’re living in now as a country. We only focus more on how to label people corrupt but when it comes to us also in their shoes, we twist the words and give it another meaning which is not suppose to be so. Generally, corruption lives within us and the only way we can actually fight it is by killing it from the grassroots.

We are calling out our leaders that they’re corrupt, but when we check ourselves out, from the little leadership we’re being given, are we being just and fair? If we can’t account for the fact of the leadership we’re get to witness now, then going higher will only make things worsen because we will replicate same corrupt mindset from when we were being given small leadership to handle.

The problem now is that corruption has been institutionalised. Check out the West African Examination Council exams that young people write. Bribes to supervisors are now called signing fee. School authorities and even WAEC officials will force students to pay that money. This has made students focus on raising money for exams instead of reading.

The worst is that your family or community can even banish you because you refuse to give jobs to incompetent relatives. Nigerians will call you a fool for doing the right thing. If you get money Japa go better country.

The thing is Nigeria as a whole is not ready to fight corruption, most people only feel corruption is at the apex of government but the truth is almost every average Nigerian is corrupt and greedy, for example during that cash scarcity during the 2023 elections i withdrew #10,000 in a state called Ebonyi in Nigeria and the P.O.S attendant charged me #4,000 as charge whereas same day i got to Calabar and withdrew same #10,000 and the P.O.S attendant charged me #800 as charge just imagine the difference, this is how greedy and corrupt Nigerians can be, people literally capitalize on the state of the country and use it to extort others, even in schools most students don’t read they sort their way through, even during JAMB exams, the police officers too on the way collect bribe same as taxi drivers who literally hike transport fare anytime they observe slight change in fuel price, sometimes even when the fuel price normalize they literally still don’t reduce the price.

Every sector in Nigeria is corrupt but most at times people allocate corruption mostly to the government as if it’s only those in power that are corrupt, sincerely Nigerians ain’t ready for change, most persons are benefiting from corruption today and they call it favour, people don’t see corruption as corruption simply because it is favoring them, take Adams Oshomole for example when he was the labour union chairman he was literally always fighting the government, but ever since they made him a governor and currently a senator he literally is dancing to the tune of the politicians he once castigated, it’s crystal clear that people won’t complain so much about corruption if it’s truely favoring them, an average Nigerian sees corruption as favour as long as him and his family is benefiting from it, some even go to church and give testimony and everyone will see it as favour.

Corruption is always good when you are benefiting from the corrupt system, infact in Nigeria society today we celebrate corrupt politicians and pastors than those that are legally making Money, the corrupt leaders uses their stolen funds to bribe the system, even the Efcc are bribe to stay mute on their cases.

You are absolutely right, corruption has now reached such a level that it is not limited to the government or political individuals, it has gradually penetrated the common people. The common people have started see corruption as an easy means. But I think the common people are not to blame for it, because the government is involved in corruption and the political individuals, if the government had worked against corruption, we would not have to face the terrible situation. The government can take various steps against corruption if it wants to but they do not want to because the government is involved in corruption. You are right, corruption is not just at the top anymore, it has quietly entered our everyday life and that’s why it is harder to fight because it is no longer just them, it also includes us in different ways. Many people didn’t start out wanting to be part of that kind of system, they were pushed into it and when things don’t work the normal way, people begin to look for shortcuts just to get basic things done. The truth is,until things start working on merit, where you don’t need connection to get simple things done, this cycle will keep repeating itself. So while it’s fair to say citizens are part of the problem, this alone is enough to show us all how deeply the system as shaped the people’s behavior. This has been some of the major reasons Nigeria is facing backwardness and never progressing as expected since our independence, the Nigeria we see is one of the most favoured nations in the world but because this and similar activities stagnancy is still our final destination. Starting from leadership positions,  they are given based of favour and not accountability because if it was based on accountability most that have served and are serving as leaders won't have have been there.
I think this is the right time we look for possible solutions to this lasting problems of the country as that is the first step to gain restoration
