As reported by local news, Residents of Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State protested in Obagaji, demanding the exit of Fulani herdsmen. This demonstration occured ahead of the upcoming farming season, with locals expressing their concern about security and potential conflict. The protest highlights ongoing tensions between farming communities and nomadic herders in the community. Here is the link to the news:BREAKING: Benue Residents Protest, Demand Exit Of Herdsmen Ahead Of Farming Season , more details : https://www.beloud.com/news/130875465Benue State is known to be the food basket of the nation Nigeria. Cultivating crops like yam, oranges, mango etc in large quantity, and they equally supply these food items to other states within the country. But for quite sometime, the activities of these herdsmen have hindered them from producing these crops, these herdsmen go into their farms and use their cow to destroy their crops and even go as far as killing them. This is really a tragic moment for the people of Benue State, and therefore demands immediate attention from both the state and the federal government. This attack on the farmers is not only affecting the people of Benue State but the nation at large. Because since their is no sufficient supply of food items as a result poor food production, food items are now costly and difficult to afford for the poor Nigerians. Both the state and federal government of Nigeria should enact very rigid law concerning nomadic farming or rearing of cattles, the cattle owners should provide land for these herders to rear their cattles, and whoever that violates these laws and is found grazing in people's farm land should be punished severely. And i think with this strong decision, herders will maintain their lane and food production will be on the increase. What is your take on y?

I truly understand where the people are coming from, as a farmer in that community and your crop and life is at risk, it is only right for you to speak out. At the end of the day it is about survival and not protest but also at the same time I don’t think the solution is just by pursing the herdsman. This issues has been there for years and it’s down to the system which is why without a proper system this issue will keep repeating itself. Farmers are ought to feel safe in there land, that’s why I feel that the problem is not all about the presence of the herdsmen but the lack of control and accountability. so we don’t just need reactions, what we need exactly is a system that protects lives, support farming and prevent this things from repeating itself.

In 2026 we shouldn't be hearing about nomadic movement of cows anymore. The Fulani people should look for others ways of rearing their cows, they could have a ranch where they keep their cows. Because the issue of passing through someone's farm and destroying their crops will certainly bring resistance from the people of Benue state, as they would not agree for such arrangement. My major problem is government not coming forward to solve this particular problem, they've allowed the killings to go on for too long.

With the way Nigeria is now the freedom of all lays in there hands and do not need anybody to help give it to them because the person you run to for help is still the same person killing you. Since this existence of this ongoing killing in benue state, there governor or president won't say they are not aware of what they are going through in the state, but choose to remain silent because they are not the one's been affected directly. All I will say is if they need freedom from the hands of herdsmen before there farming season they should do it themselves because waiting on there leaders will yield know positive effect till there governor is directly affected.

I have not recovered from the videos I watched on X yesterday. The killings that happened in the Plateau, Jos. May their soul rest in peace. Though it is irrelevant to say this, but I cause the day I came into this country. A country with no street surveillance camera, no database that have the info of every citizens. Anyone can come into the country and do what they like. The so-called herdsmen are animal rearers they move from country to country they are not part of Nigeria. Yet our government have allowed them to infiltrate our lands, kill the citizens.

While thsi is a welcome development, I think the Benue people woke up a bit too late. The good news is thy woke up up, the next question is do they have the pressure to sustain what they have startd and force what they want to be done? Because if they protest for one week and grow weary without results and go back home, it is as good as not starting at alll.

Did you think the government don't know those fulani guys or those people who are killing famers in the state?. They aren't silent because they don't have a solution but because they are benefiting from these whole killing saga. What we are seeing in Nigeria, I mean the whole killings here and there is orcheratated by the government. Have you ask yourself why the ranch law in benue no longer effective?Orton was almost killed for signing it into law. Fed Govt are the major problem so don't expect solutions from them in the nearest future.

I really do agree with you, open grazing and movement of this Fulani herdsmen from state to state is part of what is given room for this unnecessary killings and insecurity, if i was the president i will immediately ban it, we import other goods and we are still surviving so why not rear this cows in the North and transport them to areas where they are needed instead of allowing this herdsmen to be going round and killing people, destroying farmers crops and raping innocent girls in the name of cattle rearing. The government of Nigeria is benefiting so much from this insecurity that is why they don’t want to take drastic steps to end it, a wise man once said any insurgency that last more than 24hrs is controlled by the government, my annoyance is that Nigerian leaders are playing politics and making money at the detriment of the lives of innocent Nigerians, see the level of killings and no drastic decision is taken, this Fulani men are transporting arms from one location to the other on daily basis in the name of cattle rearing and our government doesn’t seem to be saying anything about it, Nigeria is bleeding.
