If I had to start life again in Nigeria with everything I know now there are honestly a lot of things I will do differently and some that I won’t even try at all.
Firstly, I won’t put all my hope in school alone. Don’t get me wrong, education is important but I’ve seen too many people graduate with good results and still struggle for years without being stable. If I could start again I will combine school with practical early, something that can actually bring money even while schooling. Waiting till after graduation to figure life out is a risk I won’t take again.
Secondly, I won’t underestimate the power of connection. Back then I used to believe that hardwork alone was enough but reality has shown me that who you know can open doors faster than what you know. I’ve seen a lot of situations whereby opportunities didn’t go to the most qualified person but to the person who was closer and had the connection. So if I’m starting again, I’ll be more intentional about building relationships not just working hard in silence.
Another thing I won’t do is keep waiting for the right time. In Nigeria, the right time hardly ever comes, there’s always one issue or the other, money , stability and even uncertainty. A lot of people sit on good ideas for too long until life forced them into survival mode. If I had another chance, I will definitely start small even if things are not perfect and grow from there.
I also won’t depend on just one source of income. The way things are now, one source of income is not safe reason because prices of so many things go up everyday, jobs are not stable and anything can change overnight in this country. Even if it’s something small I’ll make sure I have multiple ways money is coming from.
Another mistake I won’t repeat is ignoring information, sometimes the difference between someone who is progressing and someone who is stagnant is just awareness, lack of information. There are opportunities, platforms many of us didn’t take seriously early enough. If I could have second chance , I’ll pay more attention, ask questions and move faster when I learn something useful.
Lastly, I’ll take risk earlier not reckless one but calculated risks. Nigeria can humble you but it also rewards those who move bodily at the right time. Playing too safe can keep you in the same place for too long.
This is just my honest reflection SAED on what I’ve seen and experienced.

What about you?
If u had a chance to start again in Nigeria, what is one thing you will avoid completely?
