Unknown gunmen kill Ebonyi Monarch.

Unknown gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Isinkwor community, Onicha Local Government Area Ebonyi  State, HRH Jesophat Ikegwu.

The incident occured on Wednesday night at the Monarch palace.

Sources in the community told Daily Post that the gunmen invaded Ikegwu's palace and shot him through the window.

Chairman of the local government, Ikehukwu Ogbofia who confirmed the killing, condemned the incident.

He said the police are investigating the killing, and urged the people of the community to remain calm.

When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer of Ebonyi Command, SP Joshua Ukandu confirmed the incident.

Ikegwu's killing brings the total number of monarch killed in Ebonyi State to five.

This is really very saddened news, and very unfortunate events taking place in Ebonyi State. It seems someone or group of people are really against that very stool.
The monarch have their roles to play in a  State and is a good thing to have them. Because they can cause the state government to give recognition to the grass root and bring development to the grass root people. Why is this stool becoming bloody in Ebonyi State? Something very serious and urgent attention is highly needed to prevent such malicious killing from happening. The interest of both the state and local government should be called up on to bring lasting solution to this tragic event.

What is your take on this?

It’s honestly painful to read, a man being on his own, his house where he should feel safe and now he was attacked and killed just like that. This is not even about title or position, this is someone’s father, husband, someone people look up to in the community and what’s more troubling is that this is not the first of its kind. When things like this happen, it stops looking like coincidence and feels like there’s something bigger and more dangerous going on behind the scenes. Traditional rulers play a very important role, they are like the closest link between the government and the people in the community. Now when this kind of things happen people start to think that if this can happen to a king, what about ordinary people. It’s just sad and frustrating as well because beyond all this statements people want to see real action, people want to feel protected. Something has to change before more lives are lost.

I am really confused as a Nigerian, is it that as a people we are going to fold our hands and be slaughtered one after the other and yet we are waiting for government to come and protect us even when we know that this government are not ready to do such. If a traditional ruler who is someone in charge of community affairs and an  influential person in the society can be killed just like this and life continuous, this gives a strong signal that the ordinary man's life on the street of Nigeria is not valuable. The killings that has been happening in the south, in the middle belt, in the North and in the West is becoming unbecoming. This is an urgent call to show that we need state policing, and local government policing as well because this issue of having a police that is centered on the Federal government is not helping the ungoverned spaces in our villages and towns.
