Hello everyone.. I'm new here and I've been observing for a while now. I'm not new to crypto, but I've never own any Bitcoin. So I'm really curious on what wallet to use.
I've seen a lot of posts concerning hardware wallet because of how secure they are but truthfully it's quite expensive comparing with where I come from, nevertheless it is still part of my choice list. There are also mobile wallets and software wallets to consider.
When I first got into crypto, I used trust wallet to store my coins, Ethereum especially. But now it seems like the Trust in their name is long gone. That is why I am asking from the members of this forum, which wallet will you recommend for for a beginner just starting in Bitcoin. If possible a wallet that is not an exchange that can also store other cryptocurrencies..
Thank you all.

The unstoppable wallet is suitable for you because it can store many coins including Bitcoin, ETH and other coins.

Bluewallet is good for storing bitcoin especially for mobile.
Electrum is more suitable for the PC version, but there is also a mobile version but I don't like the interface.

Trust? That means Trustwallet, right? Don't trust this wallet, because I've seen many hacking cases before.

Electrum is one of the best wallets recommended by newbies to use to store their bitcoin, I’ll recommend that for you too but it only allow bitcoin storage and no other coins.
There should be other wallets out there to use and recommendable for what you want to use it for.

Trust? That means Trustwallet, right? Don't trust this wallet, because I've seen many hacking cases before.

Trust wallet is an open source wallet, it’s not advisable to use especially for beginners coming to know about bitcoin and want to have an investment in it.

There are many wallets out there, some even claiming to be open-source, but in reality, they're not fully open-source. One of them is the Trust Wallet you used earlier, mate. IDK if Electrum will suit beginners, but what I felt when I first used it was that the application was easy to understand even for beginners. So, give Electrum a try or just have a look around first. If that's still not enough for you, you can go to Wallet software to find more.

Well I am glad you know how these wallets works even before you acquired your first Bitcoin.
It is obvious that at this level no one can make the best for you than yourself because you seem to had already gained the basic knowledges.

But still... For stronger security concerns, the hardware wallets is better due to the fact it stores it private keys offline according to their cold storage system.
It keeps you off from online away from hackers. The mobile and desk stop would have your seed phrase generated alongside creating the wallets address.

Yes they are also good for beginners who can not afford the hardware and write down your seed phrase on paper and store secured.
You will also therein keep your Privacies secured.

You need a lot more than just the wallet for beginners.. I will try to get some links so that you can go through them :
[Edit]

Turns out all you needed is already listed in one of the pinned thread on this board..
All you have to do is, take your time and go through the wallet section on this thread : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5500358.0

All the best in your journey, don’t lose your coins..

Back to your question, it depends on your device but since you said multi-coin then I think Unstoppable or Cake wallet should work but Unstoppable is limited to mobile.

If I were you, I will separate Bitcoin from your altcoin so I will probably use Electrum or Blue wallet separately for Bitcoin and  cake wallet  to manage altcoins..

You can use electrum wallet for Bitcoin only and there's also exodus wallet which is also self-custody.
I’ve used exodus  before, it’s beginner friendly and supports multiple coins but it’s  a non open source wallet  and has a lot of  reports just like Trust Wallet so it’s not recommendable

Getting a Bitcoin now is very expensive for you, as you said you can't afford the hardware wallets, which shows that you do not have enough funds. So your demand is to know about the wallets that support multiple currencies. There are many you can use, and one user suggested Exodus, which I would also recommend as it supports over 130 currencies. If you can do a little more research, then you can easily find the best option for you. Also, in the future, if you can acquire a btc, then try the Electrum wallet for yourself.

Trust wallet is an open source wallet, ~

Trust wallet is NOT an open source wallet.  At least, not entirely.  Trust Wallet Core is an open-source library.  However, the full app frontend for Android and iOS is proprietary and generally considered closed source software.

He doesn’t necessarily need to buy a whole bitcoin. He can buy just a fraction of it, even for a few bucks. He also didn’t mention what’s his aim from buying crypto, so even if his goal is to make a quick profit from price fluctution, then even in that case he can still buy bitcoin and exchange it later for whatever coin he wants.
OP, regarding which wallet to use, if you are interested in bitcoin, then I strongly recommend Electrum. I have been using it for years with no issues. Just keep in mind that it’s not only which wallet you use that matters, but also how to secure it and keep it safe.

If you are looking for a Bitcoin wallet to hold Bitcoin, everyone will probably recommend you to use Electrum, I also recommend the same. If you are looking for a multi-coin or crypto wallet, I don't have a specific wallet name, especially if you don't hold the coins for a long time, you can use a wallet that is convenient for you. In the case of multi-coin use, many people recommend Unstoppable wallet, since I am not a fan of crypto/altcoins, so I don't have any multi-coin wallet for regular use. I use exchanges or trust wallets for special needs. I would advise you to rely on your own research rather than relying on others.

You could also buy a truck load of water every time you are thirsty but I am guessing you are only purchasing smaller quantity.  You are receiving less than 0.001 Bitcoin every week in your Wallet, why would OP not afford it?

I tried unstoppable wallet so far for multi-chain management and web3 connection and it is quite recommended for beginners. For bitcoin, I still isolate them from other coins and use electrum on different devices for a long time.

Electrum is one of the best wallets recommended by newbies to use to store their bitcoin, I’ll recommend that for you too but it only allow bitcoin storage and no other coins.
There should be other wallets out there to use and recommendable for what you want to use it for.

Trust wallet is an open source wallet, it’s not advisable to use especially for beginners coming to know about bitcoin and want to have an investment in it.

I think there is a typo error there because trust wallet is completely not an open source as they claimed to be, in fact they are owned by binance exchange which actually actual proves that it’s not that highly recommended to use because nothing separates it with an exchange wallet.

Also its best to know that Open source wallet do not guarantee safety but at least they are actually there for tech savvy user to see what changes happens behind it. Wallet success actually depends heavily on how the users safeguard his wallet so OP strongly needs to learn how to back his wallet up properly again.

As for Altcoins wallet I would have suggested each network wallet but that would have been too much so Multi coin wallet like the popular Unstoppable wallet and then the recent Cake wallet reviews I see are actually worth a try

I'm not new to crypto, but I've never own any Bitcoin. So I'm really curious on what wallet to use.
Before actually interacting with Bitcoin blockchain on the mainnet with bitcoins, you must learn about Bitcoin blockchain, wallets and practice with wallets and transactions on testnet. It will make you well-prepared for your action with bitcoin on the main net later more safely. With Bitcoin testnet, if you make mistakes, you won't lose any money but it's different and more severe with Bitcoin mainnet, as you will have to buy bitcoins with your money, and if you make mistakes, you will lose your bitcoin as Bitcoin transactions are irreversible.

I've seen a lot of posts concerning hardware wallet because of how secure they are but truthfully it's quite expensive comparing with where I come from, nevertheless it is still part of my choice list.

When I first got into crypto, I used trust wallet to store my coins, Ethereum especially. But now it seems like the Trust in their name is long gone.
It's surprising that you started with Ethereum, and ignored Bitcoin.

That is why I am asking from the members of this forum, which wallet will you recommend for for a beginner just starting in Bitcoin.
What are best Bitcoin wallets?

If possible a wallet that is not an exchange that can also store other cryptocurrencies..
Don't store your cryptocurrencies on exchanges because they're not safe places for fund storage especially in long term. You don't have private keys and you don't actually own any coins.

Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts.

Thank you all.
If you're not new then perhaps you did interacted with a wallet before perhaps to some altcoins. Well, it serves the same purpose, you save your seed phrase and remember the password to your wallet, basically the basics. Well, if you're into a lot of the coins that holds, I'd better go with a hardware wallet considering how secure it is compare to mobile or just software wallets you use to store in a PC. Expensive it is, but it carries its reputation beyond the years.

You can use electrum wallet for Bitcoin only and there's also exodus wallet which is also self-custody.

Really? Exodus? That's not a good wallet anymore because I have heard things about exodus before.
Electrum and Unstoppable wallet are the best for anyone who wants to use free wallets.
Trezor and other airgapped devices are the best hardware wallet right now.

Depending on who the beginners are, if you have money it's not a bad idea to get a airgapped device as your first Bitcoin wallet, they support all alterative coins as well, I am using keystone and it's pretty secured, just like few other airgapped devices. If you can't afford a hardware wallet then you are free to use Electrum or Unstoppable wallet but have it in mind that airgapped hardware wallets are the best I advise you safe some money aside for it.

Exodus is not a good wallet because it is close source and in cryptocurrency, best wallets at least must meet two criteria: non-custodial so that users own private keys and own their coins; and open-source so that the wallet can be easily reproduced by other people from developers, testers to users.

If you were looking for a wallet to hold only Bitcoin, I would recommend you to use Electrum wallet, because Electrum wallet is very safe and secure as a mobile wallet to hold Bitcoin. Since you want to hold Ethereum along with Bitcoin, I understand that you are looking for a multi-wallet where you can hold other coins along with Bitcoin, so I would recommend you to use SafePal wallet. Since you are not liking Trust Wallet, you can use SafePal wallet. I use SafePal wallet to hold my Bitcoin and other coins.
