You need to be intimately familiar with the sports to even be able to place bets on sports with any confidence, most people just open the platform, look at previous head go head and do a crude evaluation of the teams playing against eachother and decide on who's going to win, that's not how sports works, if you don't know the sports then you are better of just going for slot games instead, sports gambling requires that you know the sports.

Yes, it's a fact because I, at least in my case, only place bets on a maximum of two sports at a time, and that's football and boxing or UFC, because those are the sports I watch the most and am most familiar with. Self control in gambling is very good because it will help one gamble safe and moderate unlike folks who don't have self control they will be so pushed to chase after their loss which sometimes can result to more loss.

Self-control is a must for any gambler. It ensures us to gamble with a realistic way. Even we may get losses, people who have self-control, they won't lose with the amount of money that they don't afford to lose. It will be different with the people who have no self-control, they may lose all their money because of trying to gamble in an excessive way.

I feel people who say they are gambling for pleasure are not saying the truth or they are fooling themselves because it is very hard to believe that someone will bet and lose money and call it pleasure.

This is always debatable. IMO, we can't claim they are fool or stupid because there are people who really gamble for fun (entertainment).
You must know, each gambler may have a different perspective about gambling. You can't generalize it based on your own perspective only.
I respect the people who gamble for fun (entertainment) as long as they do it with a proper way.

That's very true, and besides this, it's also very likely that this doesn't only happen in slots; it happens to me a lot in dice. In dice, I even thought the casino was cheating me because it was impossible that I wouldn't win any of the times I bet, but this is normal because that's the current house advantage, so you shouldn't keep spinning and spinning in both dice and slots; you should play very carefully.
