One of the ways I thought of to help an addicted gambler, is to tell them to get busy with something that could occupy their mind and reasoning. You know when someone is less busy, the thought of gambling can come up.

Another means is for them to limit their interaction with their friends that gamble the same way with them.

That activity only distracted their mind to not to gamble. Making them busy means it will have a limit, when they have free time such as at night before sleeping, what they can do? Most addicted gambler failed to control just because a few minutes free time they have. With just 10 minutes they can back to gamble. The Solutions not just making them busy, but from inside of themselves they  have to stop it. Control the desire to gamble is not easy. But if addicted gambler able to achieve, slow but sure they can less addicting.

The best way we can help them is when we can encourage them to help their own selves too because everything will not matter if they don't even give importance to what we are telling them.

If they are determined to recover, then that's the time that they deserve the help from their family and friends. Otherwise, if they are showing disapproval on what we are doing, then everything will be useless, even the genuine emotions we care to show them.

I agree with you, an addict needs to quit gambling for some time, this period will enable them get over their addiction and concentrate on any new hobby they're offered or they develop to replace gambling. When the addict have perfectly healed and have learned handling in moderation, then they can return to gambling with a more disciplined deposition.

No matter the issue the person is facing, getting addicted to gambling never solves it, instead it makes it worse and the gamble would lose precious funds In the process. When facing life challenges, it's best not to use gambling as an alternative. The best way to fight gambling addiction is to face it head on, the gambler must be ready to quite by all means this is where the change starts happening, alot of them don't want to quite and no matter your effort to help them get out of their addiction won't work out since they are not self willing to come out of it, so the number one way to help them is to help them expose the risks in addiction and make them give up and ready to fight their addiction at that time.

What I can say is that it is actually quite difficult to help people who are addicted to gambling because usually they will resist anything that others say to them because they feel that we don't like what they like so they will continue to be defensive and not want to listen to good advice from the people around them. So I personally see that if the person doesn't have the desire to be able to recover from their gambling addiction then we should step back and let them be first, unless they have gone too far to the point of being violent maybe harsh methods can be used, but if not then just let them be until they realize what they are doing.

It's a norm how we discuss about gambling addiction, how to prevent it and/signs of addiction but we barely discuss on how to help those that are addicted gamblers recover or make responsible gambling decisions and there might be addicted gamblers here who needs this tips or you might know of an addict who needs it.
I am not a gamble addiction rehabilitator but I do know few tips that might be helpful.
Gambling addiction is caused by the belief that gamble can add up as a source of income so some of the tips to solving addiction is to:
1. first change the way the gambler sees gamble. You might need a lot of convincing to do that so if you truly want to help any addict you also need to be patient
2. Secondly since gamble addiction is a habit that has been formed overtime it would be very difficult to stop overnight however, you'll need to give them the right routine to do or practice in stead of gambling irresponsibly like, gambling with a budget and within certain time limit.
3. You also need to regularly check up on them and be nice to them so they feel loved because that's the only way they're going to adhere to your instructions
4. Lastly if they get comfortable gambling with budget then you can present them with other forms of entertainment in place of gamble to prevent them from having a change of thought and falling back to their previous situation.
But if the don't get comfortable gambling with budget then you might need to repeat the process again.

These are just my thought on how to stop gambling addiction but if you have any idea feel free to drop them.

Seriously, helping an addicted gambler is not something that happens overnight. It takes patience and support. First, they need to understand that gambling is not a reliable way to make money, that mindset change is very important. Also, instead of forcing them to stop immediately, it can help to gradually reduce how often and how much they gamble, while introducing other activities to replace that habit. That is why acceptance and determination to get healed from addiction is a must, because we can't do nothing for them if they won't allow us to help theirselves either.

Right, but those instructors are basically doable if we are talking about a person who is very close to us, like a close friend of a family member. It would not work if we want to help an acquaintance or a random person to recover from gambling addiction, as we are talking about investing our precious time into someone who is having trouble and struggling with gambling.
The person in question would firt need to understand they have a serious problem before we can help them with our time, by checking on them continuously.

Addiction is a mental illness, and only a doctor can determine if someone is addicted based on a consultation. Therefore, someone on the internet hearing that person Z is gambling non-stop, or that friend Z is gambling non-stop, and concluding that this friend is addicted to gambling and offering advice on how to stop gambling and overcome the addiction, doesn't work. An addicted person won't stop being addicted just because a friend gave them advice on how to quit.

Everyone who has symptoms of illness should go to the hospital to see a doctor, and the same applies to addiction. Unfortunately, many people don't take their relatives who have symptoms of addiction to see a doctor, receive proper medical care, and undergo the correct treatment to get cured. They prefer to listen to random advice, and the illness worsens to the point where the damage is too great and it's too late for a solution.

I have find myself in this situation before, and I must say that it wasn't easy for me I tried as much as I could just to shake the addiction out of my head yet it didn't work. Sometimes I will try to discipline myself but after doing that to some extent I will keep remembering my loses and the moment I keep remembering that I will just loss control and then go back to gambling again and instead to recover from my previous lost I will still add more to it, then it becomes a very big task for me I tried to think for a possible way out until I came up with this idea of texting the customer service for deactivation and immediately they get my betting account deactivated I got relieved as I don't longer think about the money I lost in the past.

I think we can meet them when they're calm or when you see them sitting all alone, from my own observation when a real gambler is been sitting all alone something is hitting the person up. When we see them sitting alone we can walk close to them then ask if it's possible for you to sitting the gambling and if the person permits you then you express your feelings, you even make believe you've in betting areas before and it's really affected you and your family that you won't like what happened to you back then happened to the person too, tell person that you want to help a job with the listening hears the person will accept because we're all humans.

Too bad that we have to reach that point. I see how difficult it was but I know there is a solution to every problem. Making him stop and accompanying him to do other stuff could erase everything about gambling. But as I've said, this is not an easy job. A lot of people may be involved with this treatment, and it will require many sacrifices. But it is necessary, as we need to change.

But of course, everything is impossible without that person's help. He is the one who should encourage himself and make a move. Otherwise, nothing works despite the hard work.

Thanks op, those are just some of the many that can help an addicted gambler to recover. But first, they have to admit that they're in bad condition and they are addicted to gambling. Because without that, they'll have hard time in accepting the truth that they need help. And if they think they are not addicted, there won't be any willingness for them to get some help. Yet if they have accepted that they are addicted and admitted that, help is on its way and that's easier for them to push to recover than of those who can't admit it.

Help will always be there. But the question is, do they need help? Or are they willing to accept our help? Because there are really gamblers who think they are mighty and good enough, therefore they don't need anymore a helping hand.

I would personally want to help if I can see that there are chances, but helping addicted gamblers who don't want to be helped in the first place is just a waste of time

Realistically speaking, they should help theirselves first before getting some help from other people, that's the only way they can get rid of gambling addiction.
