It's a norm how we discuss about gambling addiction, how to prevent it and/signs of addiction but we barely discuss on how to help those that are addicted gamblers recover or make responsible gambling decisions and there might be addicted gamblers here who needs this tips or you might know of an addict who needs it.
I am not a gamble addiction rehabilitator but I do know few tips that might be helpful.
Gambling addiction is caused by the belief that gamble can add up as a source of income so some of the tips to solving addiction is to:
1. first change the way the gambler sees gamble. You might need a lot of convincing to do that so if you truly want to help any addict you also need to be patient
2. Secondly since gamble addiction is a habit that has been formed overtime it would be very difficult to stop overnight however, you'll need to give them the right routine to do or practice in stead of gambling irresponsibly like, gambling with a budget and within certain time limit.
3. You also need to regularly check up on them and be nice to them so they feel loved because that's the only way they're going to adhere to your instructions
4. Lastly if they get comfortable gambling with budget then you can present them with other forms of entertainment in place of gamble to prevent them from having a change of thought and falling back to their previous situation.
But if the don't get comfortable gambling with budget then you might need to repeat the process again.

These are just my thought on how to stop gambling addiction but if you have any idea feel free to drop them.

Good initiative op! I feel the absolute best way for addicted gamblers to control their addictions is for them to find out the root cause behind it which is easier said than done. Family or friends could help figure it out sometimes, but not always.

Psychologists could help too sometimes. These are secondary solutions. The primary solution is for them to figure it out themselves which may/may not be unique to each individual.

Best way is for the addicted gambler to quit gambling because that is the only way out. You should know that it boils down to the gambler if he's determined to quit gambling or not. If he's not determined to come out from gambling addiction, all your efforts will be in vain.

If the gambler is willing to come out from addiction, he should replace his gambling activities with other sports or activities to keep him busy. If an addict doesn't quit gambling, it will be difficult for him to come out from addiction.

I will encourage him to join a Gamblers' Anonymous group its a group of people who are struggling to fight addiction. They help their members by sharing their experience in recovery. If a struggling gambler who really wants to recover, getting into this kind of group will fast-track his recovery.

Usually, physicians are the ones who refer their patients to these groups, so it's better to contact and be under the care of a physician.

Family and loved ones can be very helpful in curing someone's addiction because a human does everything for their loved ones and if those loved ones make an addict to believe that without him/her their lives will be in very bad condition or they can't live without him/her and with such approach they try to help such addict with love, care and sympathy then such addict can overtime get emotional and might get his/her will power back which's the only thing that could save an addict I guess.

I would like to agree with your opinion, because it is really hard to helping an addicted gambler to recover but I think this is not the impossible things and that is why I think we should try if there is any scope.
And I also think that in many cases, just as the people around a gambler can influence his addiction to gambling, if there are the right people around him who can make suggestions or give advice, they can play a big role in helping him get out of gambling addiction. Even in this case, even if it is only by going to a psychologist, many times it is not possible to turn a gambler away from gambling addiction simply because there are few such people in his environment.

I understand your point here, however, how can we help with the situation when we are yet to understand or have an idea of the actual course to such addiction, at least there should be probe, this will help us to get more exposure to what is involved and how we can come in, so I believe without opening up, you may not have an idea of what to do and how we could come in with the situation, so an addicted Gambler need to force help themselves before we can come in for them as well.

One of the ways I thought of to help an addicted gambler, is to tell them to get busy with something that could occupy their mind and reasoning. You know when someone is less busy, the thought of gambling can come up.

Another means is for them to limit their interaction with their friends that gamble the same way with them.

Well, I would say that self control is the greatest factor here. Unless a person is willing to turn himself in, then external criticism is not that effective, So he must first realize that he is making a problem of himself. The other factor is the environment. Assuming that he is somewhere where everybody around is gambling, then it would be harder to leave it and, In my opinion it could be more productive to maintain some distance between that space and establish a new routine.
