"You are not chasing money, you are chasing a feeling". That may be very well true for some but for most people, I think they're actively chasing the money and not the thrill of it. I can understand the thrill of doing a bit of research and using some new strategy that you just developed irrespective of it being soley due to luck, to place a bet and then eagerly anticipate a win. Even after losing out, you feel more determined and believe the next bet you place would surely be a winner.
But asides all of that, the real driver behind gambling is to get a profit. You get your thrill along the way, but the end result most people hope to achieve from gambling is profit.

This is something I agree with in general. The emotion attached to gambling is what drives us to gamble. If it is all about profit, there are other ways to make a profit. People spend around $2000 to $20,000 to gamble in a single day, which is enough to run a mini business that will fetch $50 to $500 every month. Yet they choose to gamble. Now this is a feeling to make a profit through gambling, the same feeling pushes us to anticipate a win, gamble more if we win, and if we lose.

Most people think gambling is about winning or losing money. But if you look deeper it is more about human psychology than money itself. The real driver behind gambling behavior is not profit but emotion.

When someone places a bet the brain releases dopamine. This doesnot just happen when you win it also happens when you anticipate a win. That is why even losing players keep going  because they are chasing the feeling not just the money.

Another key factor is something called loss recovery bias. After a loss the brain pushes you to believe that the next bet will fix everything. Logically every bet is independent. But psychologically it feels like you are due for a win.

Then there is the illusion of control. Many gamblers believe they can influence outcomes through strategies timing or experience  even in games that are purely random. This creates a false sense of skill in situations where luck dominates.

Honestly you’ve established a clarity that people are not into this gambling thing for the money. Though the primary aim is the money which in turn triggers addiction. When addiction is introduced it comes along with a plan B i.e  where the feelings lies. As addiction grows stronger the plan B tends to supersede  the primary aim that is how people gamble because they’re addicted to the cycle of the game. If the goal is just financial, a gambler will treat it like a business where profit is paramount and quit as risk tend to increase.

The idea of loss recovery earlier mentioned are signs of this addiction. In business, if you lose, you cut your losses to preserve what’s left. But for one who’s addicted, at each loss, a painful vacuum that can only be filled by that feeling of winning back is created. Resulting in people betting their last cash instead of giving up. Because the idea is no more about being rich it’s about stopping the bad feeling of loosing which in turn results to loosing even more that’s why most gamblers don’t bet to make profits but bet to recover losses.

So for chronic gamblers, gambling is just a game of addiction . The money is just the ticket or score that keeps them engaged in the loop. At this core, the feeling always wins while the bank balance loses If the money are truly valued it would be seen as a tool for sustainability which addiction is typically against.

Thank you for sharing this- I always call this as the “gambler’s cycle” where the gambler would be trap in an endless cycle of winning/losing in his race to recover his losses or to chase that win in the process.

The reality is- it is backed up by Science like what you described and explained OP. Whenever we gamble, we always have that temptation to either recover our losses; or to bet once again to try our luck. Combined with other factors, this makes gambling, as a whole, addicting and difficult to entirely stop.

Probably I partially disagree.

While most gambling games are dependent entirely on luck (e.g. slots), there exist some platforms where the application of general knowledge and skill may give a slight advantage on your favor, which is sports-betting.

See how different it sound. It is not ok to chase money in gambling, but it is not that bad to chase emotions. We repeat things we love to do, we repeat things that brought us happiness and joy. That is ok and nobody judge us for being good emotions addicted. I dont gamble for money, I gamble for emotion (for fun), I return to feel fun again. I think that is what makes me different from addicted gambler.

The reality is that every gambler gambles to win money no matter how small. When they have that illusion of control, it is their mind telling them that the strategy they have used or intend to use will work for them. It is all about money mate.
That is why winning is dangerous. This can manipulate one's mind and can lead to temptation. When a gambler wins, it appears to their mind that their strategy is working so well that they could win next time. That is why he double bets, believing it would, and to no surprise, the casino takes it all.

This is how casinos always outplay gamblers. Winning is just a taste and sometimes a trick, especially for greedy gamblers. If they can control themselves, everything they have will easily be gone.

That's a good point but emotions are incomplete without something to feed on, money if you ask me, is the reason why emotion ties down the soul of humans.

You can't just be emotional for nothing sake, it's impossible, something must have triggered it, and in the scenario of gamblers it's always the money, and we all have different levels of emotions.

When some got stucked they know when to wake up while some keeps hiding in that emotion they will never noticed that something is pretty wrong with them, I want to become millionaire with gambling, this is the first calling .

As time goes by and they have lost a lot of money they next thing to think about is have hope, that if they keep trying enough something will turn up, this is where their emotions enters the playground.

Casinos definitely want to make your first experience with them a great one - anyone that has enjoyed welcome bonuses and surprising wins after they first sign up as a member are much more likely to return again in future. These companies put a lot of time and effort into mastering human psychology so they can keep us playing as long as possible, because once you're hooked their whole setup is designed to slowly drain your money. They know that the brain will ignore 4 or 5 losing spins and hype up the one win inbetween it. They know certain graphics and sounds are more likely to make you addicted. In a real world casino they even design the rooms without this like clocks and with floor designs that keep you walking around in circles while making the exits hard to find, because those little barriers can suck you back in to play even more.

Yes, unfortunately, this is indeed a phenomenon called the so-called gambler's fallacy, which affects many gamblers and leads them to believe that the chance is controlled here and now, even though, as you correctly pointed out, all previous outcomes or gambling events do not influence what will happen next. But for some reason, there are gamblers who, even when playing black and red on roulette, will count the number of times they have won red and black, and as soon as black starts to fall out less frequently, they will start betting on it. However, this is a losing strategy.

That is why you must not following the illusion if you lose and even if you win, you should stop gambling as no guarantee you can wins in next bet. The illusion will becomes bigger if you still follow your desire and forget to stop gambling. Gambling is about risking some money but we should accept the reality if we lose as gambling will not let gamblers winning many times. Sometime we win but sometime we lose so we should control ourselves and not falls from the temptation of gambling.

Having a bankroll limits is the best way to properly execute a stop whenever you are already being carried away with your bet. It’s hard to fully rely on your instinct to stop gambling since it’s tricky when you are already in gambling euphoria.

Depositing what you can afford to lose or use the limits feature by some casino to have an automatic control on your game without being tricked by human feelings.

Please let us be realistic here, it is not that easy to just stop gambling after winning some amount of money without having the urge to gamble more, it is not that easy. I have this but sometimes when I find myself in this situation it is always hard for me to withdraw my money and log out because I will want to try again some times and there is chance someone can lose everything by virtual of trying to do this..., but sometimes you can also double the money if you are lucky enough.

When you don't have experience with how gambling works you assume that you can easily replicate wins by adopting certain strategies. These who have had experience in gambling knows that luck plays a key role especially in casino games. I don't chase losses or assume that my next bet would be a win. I have a budget and when it is exhausted, I simply stop gambling. If I am fortunate to win, I withdraw my win and use it for something important.

At a poker night with friends, you spend a little money to spend time together and play a little, and who wins or loses is completely irrelevant we've gathered to see each other and play. None of us are addicted to gambling, it's just the time we spend. Work brings in the money, not gambling.

Nah. it's about money, it has always been about money — the more money you stake, the more roller coaster of a ride you are gonna have with emotions. Without money, there is no gambling and I am glad it was very first comment that conveyed the same idea.

...

I am surprised by your comment because I consider you a shitposter but this was rather a 'proper' comment, well done! If you continue making good comments, soon enough you'll be removed from my mental shitposters category.

...

I don't know why people find it hard to withdraw money? You just let your emotions be, and just withdraw the money; what's there to stop you?

Yes, that's true, but there's a reason why gamblers experience emotions: they can't accept the consequences of their losses. This means they can't accept the fact that they've lost money. I don't think it's necessary to overthink this, because it all comes down to money. When you win, everything is over, and there's no emotion.
So, I think what gamblers are chasing isn't feelings, but money. When they lose, they're chasing recovery, and when they win, they're chasing greater rewards.

Most people think gambling is about winning or losing money. But if you look deeper it is more about human psychology than money itself. The real driver behind gambling behavior is not profit but emotion.
Emotions will arise if there is an object that is aimed at and that is profit or money therefore gambling still cannot be separated from winning and money, emotions will not arise when there is no object, imagine if you gamble does not involve objectivity to money and winning, you can gamble by using demo until whenever you want, but that will not give birth to any emotions, there you will get bored because there is no clear expectation in the gambling you do.

Every now and then, we try to avoid this single fact just to make ourselves feel good. Trust me, money still remains the core essence because if there were no money involved, the dopamine effect being discussed now would have been weak, too weak to even notice it. And for all the anticipation and psychological feelings, it wouldn’t have had that much effect as it is now.

The reality is that every gambler gambles to win money no matter how small. When they have that illusion of control, it is their mind telling them that the strategy they have used or intend to use will work for them. It is all about money mate.
People come to gambling to make money that much i agree with u. But if we look closer research shows 70–90% of gamblers lose. If it were only about profits why would so many keep coming back knowing the odds are against them? The answer is not just money it is the emotional hook the thrill of uncertainty the illusion of control and the anticipation of what if as many psychologist says our brain loves that what if game. Money amplifies the stakes but the real drive lies in how our brains are wired to chase risk and reward simultaneously. So while profit motivates the core of gambling is psychological not purely financial.

You would have almost convinced me in this post if not that I remembered that if money is removed from gambling, myself and many other gamblers will not be in the game.  I know that emotions play a part but the biggest motivation for every gambler I know is the money, even those who claim that they gamble for fun, the money is their motivation. Hence, I'm chasing money using money, I can't imagine using money to gratify emotions, to what end?

This is nothing but the hash truth of gambling, I don't think there is anyone that will convince me otherwise that the majority are here to gamble for money, it's the money why everyone has adopted gambling, it's the reason why even the casino are here to play launch there companies so people can engage. If indeed they are not making money from people, I don't think they will continue to make everyone want to gamble, it's because they are making money from everyone.

Emotions are constant, you can't even avoid it when it comes to money. You can see a person pledge little amount of money to a bet and because the potential return of that bet is huge, by the time they lose that bet, they become emotional and act funny but like I say. When money is involved in the life a gambler. They come so emotional and don't know how to think properly anymore, but a smart gambler should know when to let it go.

You are Not Chasing Money You are Chasing a Feeling.
I don't agree that someone comes into gambling not chasing money but feelings, for me it doesn't make sense, in my judgment there is a connection between the user and money, where every gambling activity refers to a mindset or behavior of financial pursuit, which is called psychology/neuropsychology, this is where a person will release brain dopamine which will give birth to emotions, logic and so on which will trigger the brain's response to money.

In short, if you talk about emotions, of course it is the brain that acts impulsively, the ultimate goal is to achieve instant gratification, with another assumption called the neuropsychology of Money, where each user will give birth to a mechanism for chasing money and will anticipate profits in gambling, not feelings as you say.
