I totally disagree with you on what you just said above regarding emotions as the core reason why people gamble and not money. Because if truly emotions were the reasons why people gamble, so why do they get very excited when they hit a jackpot and win huge sum of money and likewise get so sad when they gamble and lose the bet? Because if truly emotions was the reason why people gamble, they probably could have also got excited when they place a bet and lose too, and not vice-versa. I would say that gambling is not a problem if it is for fun but when you think of it as a way to earn money, the problem starts, If you play for fun, you don't feel so bad even if you lose because then the whole thing is a game.  But when someone becomes more serious, then it is no longer just a game. Are you calling everyone an addict? How dare you classify gamblers in that aspect lol. I'm obviously joking sorta but you are partially right. Some, maybe most are chasing the thrill but at the same time still want to profit. Extreme highs and lows when it comes to emotions and gambling which is why you see stories of people committing suicide.

We probably all have had that feeling of we can't lose and go on a massive run only to watch it all disappear a couple hours later. We go way upppp emotionally and end up way down emotionally.

I agree with you on some of the points you raised, but I disagree with you on some other points.
Basically, in my opinion, money is the main motivator and driving force before dopamine has any effect on the brain. The primary motivation arises within the gambler, in his thoughts and mind, when he thinks that he wants to earn money to become rich or at least to improve his situation.

This is the motive that drives him towards gambling, and when he starts gambling, dopamine begins to work in the brain, and it becomes difficult for him to back down or stop when he loses because he wants to compensate, or even when he wins because he feels that luck is on his side and he wants more.

Our biggest enemy in gambling is emotion. Gambling is not a difficult task or a matter of special skill. The main skill is to control emotion and know how to stop at the right time. Quick and unrestricted dopamine, it is what can get peoole hooked up to casinos and bookies for long period of times. Interestingly enough it is something which is not exclusive to gambling, it has already been established that social media (Instagram, TikTok) can also prompt the release of dopamine and keep people hooked to their phones for prolonged periods of time.

When comes to the majority of gamblers I would dare to say it is both a combination of seeking for dopamine and also seeking for wealth.
