Has anyone here actually won big in gambling and then used that money as capital

I’ve been thinking about this for a while because a big gambling win can really change something, but at the same time it can disappear just as fast. That’s the part I want to avoid if it ever happens to me.

Instead of wasting it or putting it back into gambling again, I’d rather use it as capital for a small business or anything that can grow and become a steady income later on.

I've thought about that before, but when I think about it again, it doesn't seem like a good idea. If we build a business using winnings money & still continue playing, cash flow may not be good for the business. When you lose, you might take money you previously invested in the business to make deposits. It would be a good idea, when we actually leave gambling after the big win we got.

Nah!! I haven't really won an amount that was enough for me to use as capital. During my early days, I used to have some decent bankroll that could have gotten me some decent amount, but I was just lucky enough, and the few times I got lucky, I just wasn't wise enough to move in that direction and now my deposits are so low that it's going to take a very large odds to get me some decent from it. So the few wins I get are channeled to other things and not as a capital for my business.

You should give some examples of what do you mean winning big and business you are talking about. Some businesses require almost no capital to start. To do drop shipping you dont even need a large capital. Just resell what is demanded. Make internet shop and that is it. Also you have mentioned if business should be successful

Nevertheless, I dont think we have a lot business starters/owners and even less huge winners in gambling. And you must be very lucky for those people to notice your topic.

It is always easier to plan with money that has not come but as soon as the money comes, those plans that were made before the money came may never be fulfilled this is simply because money brings a sort of excitement, especially big money and in that excitement, wants get to overshadow needs. If you're someone who lacks financial intelligence or literacy, you will be quick to keep aside the plans you've made before and then start spending recklessly without a budget thinking that the money is big and that you will still have enough to start a business for anything you want to invest into, this is how big money is quickly squandered.

I haven't won anything large enough to be a viable capital for a business, but if we are going to include whether we've seen other people and lottery winnings in this discussion, then yes, I've seen somone used the money they have won to open a bakery business, and before I moved out from the area I used to live, his business was booming, since that was one of the few bakery in my area.

Yes, it happened many years ago. My brother and I won a winner-take-all horse race; the prize was a 5-digit sum. I just turned 18 then and was eligible to play when I accosted my brother in a horse race. We both analyzed those horses, and at the same time, asked for tips on tipsters in the betting area.
We used the money to set up a small grocery that supported our needs for many years. Because of that, winning, I became hooked on horse racing.

In some countries $1000 may be a big win, in others you can't do anything like start a serious business with that same money. Maybe the OP is thinking of some really big win measured in hundreds of thousands of $, and that's really something that can be put to good use.

I have never won anything that could be considered big money, but from sports betting I used to have decent money, more than I earned from my daily job. I can say that I invested part of it, part of it went to fleeting joys of life and I was never sorry for that.

Not me, as I am in a net negative against casinos.
Though, if you are seeking success stories from gamblers who managed to walk away from gambling once they scored big, then there are many of them out there on the internet, you don't need to search very deep in order to find them.

Also, you must consider something.
Getting to score a lot of money while gambling is rare enough, finding someone who not only managed to get a lot of money but also walked away and started their own business is arguably even harder to find. I doubt you will be able to find a forum user with a story of success.

The problem is that I have never won big so this dream has never been realized, at most, let's say the range of $500 or $1000, then it's more to enjoy the money itself rather than building a business because for me that kind of money will not be enough to build a business.

I am not a high-risk or big-time gambler who gambles with large sums. And I have not been lucky enough to win big which could be enough to start a business. But I have been able to use my wins to sort out some pressing needs. Paying bills or buying items needed at home have been done using wins.

The common stories are of people who wasted their wins. But I know a young boy in my neighbourhood who started a business with his winnings and he is doing well to date

I never won that big money from gambling and my biggest ever win is like close to four figures but it is not a life changing money, I used that money to buy SSD or some gadget if I remember it correctly which is an investment too or technically.

If you want to start a real business relying on capital from gambling winnings, it will require a very large win. If you only bet small, the chances of winning a very large amount will be small. The biggest winnings I got were only to buy a few things that I really needed, not winnings that could allow us to start a new business.

I have experienced a big win although not the maximum win but I used the money to invest in several altcoins and to this day the profits have multiplied some of which I have withdrawn to meet my needs, I am not good at business but I can use the money for things that can produce other money.
And to this day it works even with fluctuations in the results, but what is clear is that from the profits I have made I can multiply them again in other fields.

Yes I did it once few years ago when I won like several thousands of dollar which is something enough in my country to build a small coffee shop which is what I did.
Was it a good investment? It should be good enough if it is managed well but unfortunately it was not last longer.
My small coffee shop could not survive due to tough competition and I could not manage it well so it was my mistake too.
I did not make decent profit with it but I did not lose even a cent in that coffee shop.

The possibility exists, where they gamble and win large amounts starting a business and retiring from gambling, but I personally haven't reached that level, the reason is I haven't experienced winning large amounts, my winnings are enough for myself.

Your question is too general, it doesn't specify how much this "big win" should be and what kind of business you think.
But I'll tell you what I would do with a big win (at least 400,000 euros) to make my dream come true and still have a margin of "protection".
I would buy an old farmhouse\farm, restoring it and regulating it, with animals and the cultivation of local products (exclusively organic).
I would spend my life looking after my property, so I would work for myself without having bosses bossing me around.
I would also bring added value to my territory by growing organic products and I would also provide jobs for many people.
Unfortunately, I have never won such a sum and for obvious reasons I do not own that money.

I have won big in gambling or two occasions but I didn't use that money as capital for gambling. What I did was yo withdraw the money quickly and logout from my gambling account for the day. When the winning arrived, I had to tie it to something I can remember as a benefit of gambling in the future. I will not be able to handle the regret of not using the money wisely which is why I avoided gambling for the day until I have used the money for what I wanted to use it for.

I know someone from my place who hit some big wins, it came very unexpectedly and he didn’t have much time to think about the business to start with the win, but he had to come to a conclusion real quick because the longer that money stayed in his account the chances it stands of being used.
He finally decided to buy a truck for commercial purposes, but along the line he changed his mind and bought a Toyota Corolla, not for commercial purposes but for personal use, Lol a very terrible mistake for someone who didn’t even know how to drive.

Long story cut short, he ended up trashing the car and packed it outside the house, where it was completely useless and after a few years it sent to the scrapyard and sold for a change. And back he was being a regular gambler hunting for another big win that never saw until date.

I've never done that and don't plan to. I'm worried it would change the way I fund my gambling. I mean, I might have to tolerate other sources of funds at some point, since I've used winnings for real-life expenses, especially if I've really lost control of my gambling habits. I can't guarantee that I'll maintain that discipline long-term.
