My country people i greet una all . I was going through some news and I find out a heartbreaking video that I will love us to learn from it was about a man that sent the sum of $58,500 to a wrong merchant. The man’s name is Dr. Chukwuka, this happens because of a single small mistake of a number digit error. Eventually the man acknowledgment that he received the money at year 2024 but the man refused to return the money still date.

As a Bitcoin trader or a crypto user’s, we do make daily transactions and we can find ourselves in such mess but here with me i have some important tips that we need to put into consideration to avoid this kind of situation to ever happens to anyone.

1.The One Digit Trap

Bitcoin addresses do have what they call checksum, when theirs is an incorrect character it will be rejected by the wallet. But we’re the wrong biggest risk is, it when u copy the wrong valid address. So therefore it very advisable you check before sending out.

2.The Test Rule
In a situation when sending a large amount of money or it your first time sending out to a new user. You are advice to send out just little, in order for you to have confidence of sending out huge amount or Everthing.

3.Integrity is our Cold Wallet
As seen in the video this man kept the money that doesn’t belong to him, Which is very wrong. In our board, our reputation is everything. If in anyway we receive a money mistaken transfer, we should do well in returning it. Why ? This because you will see it as a blessing but it coming from someone else pain, this will only bring trouble to such user.

4.Power of Proof

If in anyway you find urself in such mess. What you needed to do is to have the person screenshot and transaction IDs ready at hand. As also the way the merchant did reporting also to the authorities as quick and possible that the only solution at the moment for you.

My Question for the House

1.If in anyway someone mistakenly sent in that sum of money to you, will return it or won’t ?

2.what are the biggest mistakes we have ever had during a transaction ?

Let all do well to learn from this very man’s pains and shouldn’t be a victim. Let be safe.

When we want to send Bitcoin by omitting a number, the Bitcoin will not go or your transaction will never be completed. When you write or copy paste a wallet address, the checksum of that wallet is actively checked. It is never possible for your Bitcoin to go anywhere else and your transaction will never be completed. This type of security is why Bitcoin has become so successful today.

But yes, if we copy and paste someone else's wallet address, it is possible. But as you said, it is almost impossible. Caution is our biggest tool in this danger, before making each transaction, we have to compare it very well and compare the first 4 numbers and the last 4 numbers very well. When you are completely determined, do it.

Avoid making transactions when you are excited or angry. Because at this time you can make wrong decisions unknowingly. So try to avoid these times

Before doing anything when it comes to transaction ensure that you follow some of these tips and be safe.

1. Avoid being distracted when performing a transaction
2. Cross check and confirm for the second time before any final seal is being made.
3. Looked in within the figures and ensure that they are right in their numbers accordingly.
4. Also make sure that you are sending to the right intended wallet address before performing a transaction
5. After everything is being set, still reconfirm and be sure that things are in place and you are on track before the final approval to send a transaction.

Remember that bitcoin transaction are irreversible once they are being sent, this will make us to always avoid any form of error when performing a transaction.

Before making any transaction I think that you should crosscheck the address you are sending to. One way to prevent this type of mistake is to not type in address manually. It is better for you to copy because that way you will not miss any digit as you are copying directly from the source. A wallet address is not an account number that you can really store and call directly from your head memory because of the mixture of letters and numbers and the shear length of it. Copying address is the best solution to prevent reoccurrence if such mistake

My Question for the House

1.If in anyway someone mistakenly sent in that sum of money to you, will return it or won’t ?
Last year someone mistakenly sent 1million Naira into my Moniepoint business account, and after a week I got a calll from a strange number that he mistakenly transferred #1million into my account, and that I should forward the money into another separate bank account for him. And I told him I was never going to do that and i went straight to the Police for an official complaint of a strange money that was found in my account as a proof that I had no linked with the money if In case my account is been reported for fraud. And what I did was that I told the user that I can only transfer the money back to the account where it came from and not a totally different account, which I did. So If in case by tomorrow someone also happens to mistakenly send me money, I will definitely return it back.

Quote
2.what are the biggest mistakes we have ever had during a transaction ?
Whe it comes to me, when of the biggest mistake I ever had while initiating a transaction was when I sent a person who came to work for me #200,000 instead of #20,000. As I mistakenly added an extra "0", which made the payment 10 times bigger than the actual amount I intended to send, simply because I was upset that period and emotional carried away. And a more reason why people needs to be extremely careful when initiating a financial transaction.

The 1 digit trap according to your explanation is wrong. Just the same way you can't transfer money to a bank with just 9 numbers instead of the mandated 10 complete digits. Wallet addresses contains complete alphanumeric based on their wallet format, anything less or more is impossible to create a transaction.

You also created a topic about a $1 testing before, I don't really see the need for that, always copy addresses directly from the source, copy and paste directly, don't assemble address digits after digits.

This explanation is a bit sketchy, and I still can't figure out whether the payment was made to the bank directly or it was a P2P transaction. For a P2P transaction, a missing figure in an address should be detected with an "invalid address" display and this happens in most cases, this should be a rare case of a different address entirely showing up by omitting a figure in the previous address.

For further references, it is important to copy addresses and cross-check before sending, there should be no need for a test amount when the address is correct.

Some of the problems of a wrong address transaction usually caused by laziness and a complete trust on clipboard copy and paste pattern like nothing can never go wrong when copying. When it is possible that clipboard does not always copy end to end at times and it can happen while the person is not paying attention.

Cryptocurrency transactions are not like bank transactions that can be retracted. Copying directly from the source network is a best practice and ideal for prevention of any errors or mistakes.

Bro that was so thoughtful of you, because situations like such can be very implicating and can send someone into prison innocently. I'm glad you handled the matter with so much experience because who knows if that was actually a kidnapped ransom, and doing as instructed would have make it look as if you were involved in the crime. Thank God for the experience applied at least reporting to the police was the best thing you did.

Before anyone performs a transaction they should be in their right senses so that they won’t make any mistake while making transactions and should also avoid distractions from family and children when involving themselves with any transaction and it is not only limited to cryptocurrency transactions. I have also made similar mistakes as well when trying to send to out money from my local account, where I wanted to send 1.5k NGN to what I purchased, and unluckily I had to input 15k instead of 1.5k and as I wanted to leave they now printed out the receipt of my transaction from their store and I crossed checked I noticed that what i sent out was 15k instead of 1.5k. That was how I had to asked for a refund because I know that what I purchased isn’t up to 15k so I was balanced 13.5k. This type of thing can happen to anyone out there if time is not taken and when transactions are not thoroughly checked before proceeding it could cause you a lot.

Since it has now become a thing for most POS machines to stop printing receipts after completing a transaction, perhaps it's a good practice to always enable alert notifications on our devices because some only enable alerts for credit and don't like seeing debit after transactions, so they refuse receiving alert either as sms notifications or email notifications.
Try to always enable notifications of all transactions and always check and recount your daily expenses after the days activities so as to know where you spent money wrong and where you spent it right.

Another thing is to at least know how normal addresses and your personal address looks like, for those who do daily trading on crypto exchanges, so as to always have an idea and enable your instincts be right, Incase you have too much to think on your mind when you want to send or trade with someone else. It helps you have clarity and know when a mistake is about to be made or has been made.

Thanks for pointing this out, i just checked back now and I agree, that very place is not accurate. was actually trying to compare it to that of bank transfer in the sence that, one wrong digit can lead to sending money to another account. But in terms of Bitcoin it won’t work like that invalid addresses would be rejected by the wallet instead.

But the main risk is copying or pasting wrong valid address or maybe sending to wrong person, without checking it out properly. I do appreciate your notice there is always a new thing to learn everyday.

It's always best to copy and paste, and thats how it has been
