Has anyone tried and had this issue before? So I'm trying to get the Trezor suite on android to work on my device but with no luck.

I have an OTG cable running between the device and the phone. As soon as I plug that, I can enable "OTG" (it's not enabled by default)  on my phone settings, so I imagine that's somehow a good sign?

But once I do that, nothing happens. The device does not turn ON at all as if it's not detected.

For one (as the core fault of any USB to receiver--device connection problems) I'd suggest the cause to be low power supply from your android to boost the hardware wallet. Sometimes happen even between non-complex devices with in-built batteries, say a dead phone to a PB.
But once I do that, nothing happens. The device does not turn ON at all as if it's not detected.
Maybe, a quick restart with the device still plugged in can force the device to startup?

Has anyone tried and had this issue before? So I'm trying to get the Trezor suite on android to work on my device but with no luck.
I have not tried it myself because I don't have Micro-USB to USB-C/OTG adapter or cable, but it should work in theory.
You should also be able to use it with Trezor Suite web version on your phone, instead of installing Trezor Suite application.
I asked this question to Trezor Hal bot on official website, and this is what bot replied to me:

Quote
Yes. On Android, Trezor Model One works with Trezor Suite on mobile.
You can connect it to your Android phone via USB for full functionality (unlock, verify receive addresses on-device, and send supported cryptocurrencies).
Without connecting the device, you can still use view-only mode to monitor balances.

Thanks for the suggestion but that didn't do it.

The problem is not the connection with the app itself, but rather the device not even turning ON when plugged in to the phone (as opposed to when I do it with the computer). So this should have nothing to do Trezor suite.

Just works on mine. (Motorola G something or other)
Do you have an option to change from USB Controlled by connected device / this device?
Make sure USB tethering is turned off.

Obligatory, did you try on another phone / with another cable?

[....] but rather the device not even turning ON when plugged in to the phone (as opposed to when I do it with the computer).
If I understood you correctly, do you mean the same cable works with a computer, but not the phone? Compatibility issus. If that's the case, like I said earlier, the problem's from the version of Android. If not, then the USB is faulty. I'd recommend that you begin with Dave's suggestion.

I think it will be helpful if we can use other phone devices to test the cable (or the phone itself with a different cable), otherwise, we're just guessing blindly. I guess the cable is fine since you can use it with your computer perfectly.

Compatibility issus. If that's the case, like I said earlier, the problem's from the version of Android.
Which version of Android causes this issue exactly? If it's well-documented, maybe we'll see more cases.

In *theory* from what I see once OTG is turned on the phone should be providing power to the trezor. At that point the trezor should turn on, even if there is an issue with the communications between it and the phone there should be something on the screen.

This is where it becomes the head scratching issue. Phone not providing power? Phone not providing enough power? Trezor a little out of spec and even with the phone providing power it is not enough to turn it on for some reason. etc. @OmegaStarScream did you reach out to Trezor / look through their forums https://forum.trezor.io/

With mine even plugged into a regular wall AC adapter it powers up with a cable with the data lines cut, which is why I am making the assumption that is how they all work.

Than this probably depends on the brand of your smartphone, so check if connection is working with other devices voa OTG cable.
There are some adapters that look identical but they don't work on all phones.
And just like DaveF you need to see the options for USB connection.

PS
Also make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your Trezor One.
I found on reddit there could be issues with outdated firmware.
