I know many people use their discretionary income not only to buy BTC, but also for other things, which is perfectly acceptable. However, when someone decides to invest and buy BTC, whether by taking advantage of dips or applying (DCA) method, they are participating in a market where they effectively manage risk.
Investing in BTC represents an economic strategy, since it's not just about buying when others buy impulsively (when the price of BTC rises, many rush to buy for fear of missing out). Instead, you buy earlier, when prices are lower.
Allocating a portion of your discretionary income to BTC with a well structured and disciplined plan is a solid strategy. If the price drops even further, you can buy gradually, allowing you to build a stronger position over time. That's the real secret to accumulating more BTC.
Buying Bitcoin does not automatically mean someone is “effectively managing risk”.
Risk management still on whether your amount is sustainable and whether you can continue holding through big price declines without force sell
This is to further say that risk management prowess is defined in a long-term bitcoin holding period. A long-term conscious investor will plan his success from the beginning and set only a workable strategy, avoiding FOMO in accumulation process which will push you into buying bitcoin with the greed of wanting to buy more "now the price is down instead of buying bitcoin because you have an available discretionary money to do that. This also involves your strategy against possible emergency situations that can force you into selling in part or all of your bitcoin.
Your statement about “buying earlier when price is lower” is very misleading because it make it look as if folk can know beforehand that a particular price is low. Price could even fall 10% too 20% or more after you buy. This is why Iong term accumulation should not be on trying to find the right dip.
Buying earlier when the price is low is a typical trader's practice and when you're so focused on buying only at low prices, you may want to sell at any slight market uptrend,. If you are buying for the future, then why put so much interest in whether it's lowest or not?
And there’s difference between accumulating bitcoin and trying to maximise the amount of BTC you can get at every possible opportunity. The first can be done through simple and sustainable accumulation plan; while second can easily lead folks to focusing too much on price by keeping money sideline and waiting for a better dip that may never come.
I will also add that the second is detrimental as it can make a folk to wait till forever without buying bitcoin because he believes that a better price is still coming and he won't know until price will start going up again. Bitcoin is a volatile asset that's best accumulated continuously with a sustainable plan instead of timing the market.
