Calling this an attack and Chokepoint 3.0 because a meaningless channel that nobody watches got banned is a massive overstatement. YouTube’s automated moderation system is just very bad and many channels get suspended for no apparent reason. If you can get enough attention on Twitter, they usually have a human review the suspension and reinstate them if they did nothing wrong. Bitcoin.com’s channel is already unbanned, so the there was nothing to really worry about.

This is probably the most grounded take in the whole thread. The channel is already back up and that's really the end of the story. YouTube's automated system misfires constantly, it's happened to channels across every niche, not just crypto. Nvidia got hit too as someone mentioned earlier.

The geopolitical angle people are running with here is a stretch. If the US government wanted to suppress Bitcoin information they'd have bigger tools than flagging a Bitcoin.com YouTube channel.

It seems that Google is trying to play god again, and they have started suspending Bitcoin channels.
It's not only g00gle... I also hear twitter aka X is censoring many posts if they include work Bitcoin in it.
As far I understand this was done mostly for new accounts, to prevent alleged bots, but there is no reason to include only bitcoin in this restriction.

You both are right. When I read the op, I was never convinced that this was a deliberate attack on Bitcoin. Anyone who understands YouTube would know that YouTube is not a reliable platform, you can wake up tomorrow and see your channel which took you years to build gone, or your content which you invested a whole lof of effort in, flagged. YouTube is just like every other centralized platform; they set the rules, algorithm and automated system moderation which sometimes can be very inconsistent or too strict. It was actually misleading to just jump to the conclusion that we are under attack without a more convincing evidence.

It is not entirely true that laws do not apply online. Platforms like YouTube still operate under government regulations, even though their terms of service can feel one-sided and restrictive and on censorship, it is a complicated balance. What some see as suppression of free speech, others see as necessary moderation to comply with laws, protect users, and keep platforms functional. As for Bitcoin, it was created to be independent of governments, but in reality, it still faces pressure from regulations and global politics, making true neutrality difficult to maintain.
Governments can and do step in with regulations, most especially around issues like data protection, and harmful content and the reality for users is that a platform terms of service often feel more immediate and powerful than actual laws, since they can enforce rules instantly without the same level of accountability or due process. On censorship, you are right that it is not black and white. Moderation is necessary to keep platforms usable and to prevent abuse, but the line between suppression can get blurry. What one group sees as protection, another may see as silencing most especially when decisions are not always transparent or consistent buh regarding Bitcoin, its foundation is clearly about independence, but in practice, it exists within a world shaped by governments and economic systems.

The media belongs to them so it is certain that when there is something that will make bitcoin increase again or positive things as much as possible they will try to close access so that this condition does not become a full advantage and this is not the first time I think.

We know that one of the propaganda tools of the government is the media and currently almost all major media have special attachments to the existing regime so this is clearly not going to be easy.
Bitcoin has started to get back on track after the downturn but even if there is no fud it is still the government or those in power as well as those who have an advantage in terms of individuals who will try to stifle bitcoin and this is one of the ways they do it because they know that when there is a lot of understanding about bitcoin then more and more ordinary people will start looking for it and could be interested in it.

If you want to be treated unfair YouTube is the place to be, when they decide to set their eye on you they will frustrate you for no reason, I mean you won't even know why they did it.

Every explanation won't make sense and sadly whatever they said is the final, I have a sister who is into YouTube as a content creator, her life depends entirely on creating YouTube videos.

Last two months ago they put a ban on her account, and all her content is crypto related, no AI usage, I thought at first it must be the cause until I checked it out myself, YouTube way of judging 🧐 is too abnormal.

This is sad and I think it is kinda a selective something and if care is not taken, it could even get worse than we imagine. YouTube is regulated and if they want their business to continue to thrive, they’ll have to play by their rules and any account that post contents that will pose a threat to them will definitely go down.

If this war is fully against bitcoin and cryptocurrency, then a lot of informative crypto video contents on YouTube will be gone forever and I hope that doesn’t happen. I just don’t like how this centralised system are power drunk and do only what appease them without thinking of the public.

What can we expect from youtube? Youtube platform is seen as biased and one-sided, not only a single user claimed this but a lot have seen it already. So this sudden deletion of channels that involve crypto contents is already expected, since majority of the countries government are still against on the growth and surges of cryptocurrency adaption.

But if these content creators will set aside cryptocurrency and focus on the political side of the current administration, or just focus on Christian contents, surely their channels will always be boosted by the platform.

This kind of thing happened more frequently than you imagined, its not shocking because since Youtube used AI and automated system they keep flagging the wrong channel for some reasons.

There are tons of people trying to make appeal, some even shared their story in social media. Its just youtube being youtube, banning first appeal later.

In 2024 YouTube also issued apology for doing the same exact thing but on larger scale.

I don't know why this case would be made into a big deal, especially considering the fact that this site has been promoting forked BTC for years as the only true Bitcoin, thereby leading many people to invest in shitcoin. Rather than claiming that we are under some sort of attack, it is very likely that reports from genuine bitcoiners led to their channel being deleted.

?

I'm confused. This site has been promoting a forked version of Bitcoin for years?

Quote

As for the payment of any fees in Bitcoin, Iran is not so stupid as to require them in that cryptocurrency (or are they?), given that there are much better alternatives in the form of privacy coins.

Although I don't believe Iran will truly adopt Bitcoin as payment for passage in the Strait Of Hormuz, but is the idea actually that stupid?

Do you really believe that Youtube deleted a Bitcoin related Youtube channel(or Bitcoin Cash related) just because Iran started accepting BTC payments as a fee for the tankers to get through the Strait of Hormuz? Did Iran actually accept BTC payments? There's no proof for such thing. What if Iran started accepting stablecoins? Will Tether get banned in the USA because of this? I can assume that the Youtube bots have accidentally banned this channel because something has triggered their system. I don't believe that Bitcoin is under attack. There's no need of writing clickbaity sensationalist FUD posts.

Google has mostly used its power to block channels when there is political problem, and recent blocking of Bitcoin.com looks to be linked to new 2026 rules under which countries such as Iran are starting to use Bitcoin as ship fees.
Attempting to prevent usage of crypto in order to circumvent bans by calling learning items bad, big tech companies are in fact achieving counter-effect since it is more likely to induce builders to create even more potent tools that cannot be prevented.
In spite of fact that governments continue to attempt to crack down on Bitcoin by tightening regulations, history demonstrates that such actions cause only improvement of the system and its decentralization.
Ultimately, removing helpful videos, YouTube does not ensure that tech is halted. It only makes it more difficult to learn safely in the hands of common individuals which is the reason as to why we would require free sites and software that would not be controlled by single company.
