I was lying in bed last night, unable to sleep. Not because of the price. Not because of the news. But because of a much darker thought.

What happens to my Bitcoin if I don't wake up tomorrow?

It hit me like a train. I've spent years stacking sats. Researching wallets. Securing my seed phrase. Avoiding scams. Learning from my mistakes (like losing 30 BTC from a formatted drive back in 2010 – yes, that was me).

But for all that effort... I've never planned for the one thing that's guaranteed to happen to all of us.

Death.

It's uncomfortable to think about. We don't like to imagine a world without us in it. But here's the truth:

If I die tonight, my Bitcoin dies with me.

My seed phrase is in my head and in a place only I know. My private keys are mine and mine alone. That's how security works. But that's also how loss works.

My family? They don't even know what a seed phrase is. My son knows I'm into "crypto stuff" but he's never seen my wallet. My daughter? She thinks Bitcoin is for "internet nerds." My wife? God bless her, she still calls it "that digital money thing."

If I'm gone, they won't find it. They won't know to look. And even if they do, they won't know what to do with a 24-word seed phrase written on a piece of paper hidden somewhere in my closet.

So let me ask you, forum:

Have you told anyone where your seed phrase is?

Have you taught a family member how to recover a wallet?

Have you written down instructions that a non-technical person could follow?

Or are you like me – putting it off because "I'll do it someday"?

I'm single right now, but even for those with families: You think your wife or husband automatically knows how to use a hardware wallet? You think your 19-year-old son understands derivation paths and gas fees?

And for those who are single like me: Have you thought about a best friend? A sibling? A parent? Someone you trust with your life – and with your legacy?

I'm not saying give them your keys today. I'm saying: make a plan.

Write a letter. Put it with your will. Use a dead man's switch. Split your seed phrase and give parts to trusted people. Use a trusted inheritance service (but do your research – plenty of scams out there).

Just... don't leave your family guessing.

Imagine this: You die peacefully in your sleep. Your family grieves. They cry. They bury you. And then... they have no idea that you left them a life-changing amount of money. A house. A college fund. A retirement. All sitting on a cold wallet that might as well be on Mars.

That's not a legacy. That's a tragedy.

So tonight, before you check the price one more time, do something harder:

Ask yourself – if I don't wake up tomorrow, who gets my Bitcoin?

And then do something about it.

Because the saddest wallet isn't an empty one.

It's a full one that no one can open.

Let's talk about this. What are your plans? Have you told anyone? Or are you putting it off like I have? What is the best and safe solution?

I'd really love to hear how others are handling this. Maybe together we can figure out a better way.

Thanks for reading. Now go hug your family. And then go write down a plan.

This though comes to my mind multiple times but I wasn't able to find a proper solution. I don't trust anyone but me. What i want is until i die I'm the sole owner of my fund but when i die I want to give my fund to my loved one. If i store my fund in a wallet no one will find it if I store it to a exchange my found could stolen before I die. Thats why a part of my fund Is stored in bank so that it can be used by loved one after my death.

Only fools will give their private phase to anyone

What is the best and safe solution?
It's simple. Tell someone you trust about your funds.
Teach them how they can get access to your funds, or at least tell them those words are all they need to recover the funds.

If you want someone to have access to your funds only after your death, LoyceV's instruction may be helpful to you.
Using Locktime for inheritance planning, backups or gifts

My seed phrase is in my head and in a place only I know. My private keys are mine and mine alone. That's how security works. But that's also how loss works.
Your wallet seed phrase should be back up and store in a safe place only you know, it's a best backup method. Your head (I guess you implied about your brain and memory) will be only like supplementary backup method, as it is dangerous and can be broken, lost anytime so it should never be your main backup method.

Reminder about memorization risk as a backup method is written in this helpful education article.
How to backup a seed phrase.

How to let your loved ones inherit your wallet and bitcoin, hosemary helped you with LoyceV's topic.

This will be a waste if no one in your family knows how to recover a wallet.

Actually, one of my sons understands cryptocurrency and knows how to create a wallet. I also teach my son how to recover a seed phrase, but I never mention that I have a seed backup. However, I hide my backup where they can easily see it; at least, my son knows what they are going to do because I included a simple guide to recovering the wallet, including what they are going to do with the coins, such as creating a Binance/OKX account on their own and then withdrawing the coins gradually rather than withdrawing the entire amount; at least, if the account is frozen, they still have coins in my wallet.

I've had this plan since Covid 19 because I care about my family and want to make sure that if something bad happens to me, I'll still have something for them.

Monday had a massive spike, breaking the 200 EMA. This could be a signal that the market has shifted to bullish.

This will be a waste if no one in your family knows how to recover a wallet.
Let's do something like Hal Finney did or like you did too.
Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney)

My bitcoins are stored in our safe deposit box, and my son and daughter are tech savvy. I think they're safe enough. I'm comfortable with my legacy.

If anyone want their bitcoins will be inherited by someone else, they must prepare for it rather than keep their wallets, bitcoin in secret and hope that after they pass away, their family members will know how to find such wallets and access them to spend bitcoin if they want. Such hope is unrealistic and don't have any inheritance plan is risky.

Good thing I don’t really think about this kind of problem since I don’t even have bitcoin. lol
But if I did and there was chance it might be left behind someday, I’d probably make sure someone I trust knows about it.
If my child is already capable of managing Bitcoin, I’d pass that responsibility to them. If not, then I’d let my partner handle it instead.
The reason I don’t stress about this is simple. Anything can happen to us anytime and that applies to both crypto and fiat anyway. So there’s no point overthinking it right now. Maybe it’s something to deal with when the time actually comes.

This though comes to my mind multiple times but I wasn't able to find a proper solution.

Look into Liana and Nunchuk wallets. Both offer ready‑made inheritance solutions.

Liana doesn’t involve any third party. Your inheritance setup is secured only by your primary key and designated inheritance key/s.

Nunchuk works a bit differently and may hold one key relevant to your multisig setup. It also may provide the guided claim process to help beneficiaries access the funds.

Feel free to prossed to dedicated thread about Liana. I like this wallet because it supports many flexible inheritance schemes. You might want to give it the try.

You are not doing the right thing.

I am alone with no children or wife, my thought was that you are also alone but I was wrong.
You have a family, what happens to your Bitcoin you say?

My question is what happened to your family? The one you have by yourself, aren't you suppose to teach just one person out of the family about Bitcoin and how to do stuffs surrounding Bitcoin?

You sound like they need some wizardry school to understand Bitcoin or castle a spell or something..
They have no clue what Bitcoin really is and that's a shame.

I don't want to raise a family like this, a man who has a family should teach their kids what's important, Bitcoin is one of.thr most important innovation today.

Fix things, before it's too late.

I have a friend we lost last year as a result of car accident, he is into Bitcoin and he made me rethink the whole thing about access to wallet at the point of unexpected death, we all didn't expected his short coming. Death doesn't warn any of us, when it comes then that's the end. I don't like the idea that some people are saying never allow anyone knows things about your wallet, as for me, I let my dad do. If not for anything, he has done more for me in this life, I trust him with everything.

To OP, you can't trust everyone with your wallet but there is always one you can look upto even if it's not completely. Look for someone who doesn't know about Bitcoin(that's why I love sharing secret with old pops), tell them about your wallet, you can share them some part of your seed phrase and tell them how you hide the rest, it's better this way insead of having doubts about waking up tomorrow. If you are not feeling well and you feel you will give up soon, let your family and children have it than let it lock up for life.

I am blessed to have a very trustworthy companion.  Some people wouldn't want to inform family members or friends about their Bitcoins because they are scared of being robbed, kidnapped, or others.  One person knows all about my financial situation. I have also taught them about wallets and how to use them when I am gone.

Life is unpredictable, so we have to always be prepared. It is difficult to trust somebody these days but there should be a plan on the ground for your Bitcoin when you are gone.

I was going to comment  what hosemary comment  about  locktime , I also have a thread about it but on my Local Board.

With locktime, you can do everything  needed, educate and teach them whatever they need to know early, let them practice on testnet to understand it better on how it works so it won't be strange when needed. All they will be needing each is a copy  of their signed transaction that can be broad casted when the time comes.

For those that might not really be inclined with technology at all , then it better you educate one other you can really trust on what's  going on, let them know who they can contact when the time comes.

Only fools will give their private phase to anyone
There are many sayings about fools and love. Here are some search results, haha.

"A fool in love sees no fault,"
"Love makes fools of us all",

I am sure there are more.

Love can make you a fool; we may not love like that, but someone else does, and they get to learn.

You have to try to love more with your head and a little of your heart, because you may just become the next fool.

I haven't told where my keys are, it's for them to know that where I've placed it if ever a sudden death comes to me.

As for you OP, it's the high time that you start teaching your kids of being involved and knowing more about crypto wallets. Because this kind of thought is a real and serious topic.

We don't have an idea what holds in the future and we can't be confident with it. But if you've taught them how to get started, you'll not be worried anymore if this incident comes to reality.

What is the best and safe solution?
It's simple. Tell someone you trust about your funds.
Teach them how they can get access to your funds, or at least tell them those words are all they need to recover the funds.
Yea, tell them that those words are all they need to recover the funds.

You can make a smarter move by keeping the phrase with someone not enlightened and tell them to contact another person who is knowledgeable to retrieve it incase you are no more.

You can make a smarter move by keeping the phrase with someone not enlightened and tell them to contact another person who is knowledgeable to retrieve it incase you are no more.
That sounds a bit like a gamble. What if that other person becomes curious and tries to use it for themselves then? After all, saying "hey, keep these 12 words safe" with no explanation is interesting for most people. Maybe it's better to learn how to use the wallets mentioned above that have an inheritance feature.

As for me, my family knows I use crypto, but most of them don't know how to use it. Only 1 or 2 members know how to use a wallet and restore a backup. I'll probably leave my funds with them and probably my future spouse.
