If anyone should know better about crypto wallet it should be the makers, I mean those people who build wallet softwares for public uses, but I am here to tell beginners to be on guide as there are wallets out there that don't know what they are doing, or maybe they did it intentionally?

Allowing your users or customers to store their recovery seeds via online cloud storage is evil and wickedness, because beginners are always in good terms with easy way out, there is no better way to define beginners than this.

There is a high chance that beginners trust crypto companies more than themselves, thinking that "They should know better since they are the ones that make the crypto wallet", but alas, if any beginners are reading this, know that keeping recovery seed in cloud storage is 100% wrong.

Trust wallet, I am looking at you. Angry Angry Angry

If you are a beginner please stay away from any means of storing your recovery seed in a cloud storage, this doesn't make trust wallet and unusable crypto wallet, if you must you trust wallet make sure you store your recovery seed offline, don't patronize their cloud storage idea, it's totally wrong.

Another one that I do not like is the use of passkey for wallets. Using passkey on centralized platforms like exchanges and gambling sites is still better but using it instead of seed phrase backup is very bad.

If I want to make use of any wallet, I make sure I go for only seed phrase and the seed phrase backup will be offline. I prefer to use just papers for the backup.

It’s a shame if they still do that. I know at one time Trust wallet allowed users to screenshot their seed phrase (which is a very bad practice). It’s obvious that the developers do not care much about their users building the correct culture of wallet security.  IMO Trust is not the best wallet to use, there are far better options like Electrum, Blue Wallet and Unstoppable.

This is the number one thing that a user should not do , even old users, do this, for sure someone does, and yes keeping it in the cloud is dangerous since you don't own it they can open it, without you knowing, keeping it offline is the best way, but make sure to keep it safe also having multiple copy of the seed phrase in different location.
Yes you can encrypt files you put in the cloud but even if you encrypt it by chance the storage has encounter an issue the file will be lost, and there will be no recovery.
Offline is fine and should always your way to go to make you wallet safe.

This is particularly worrisome to me and I hardly see the so-called self-custody wallets that is not doing that lately. The worse part is that they may not give you any option, but to force you to save it in a cloud, which is applauding. None of the Google/iCloud, etc is safe, judging by the hacking rates these days. This makes me think whether they have some ulterior motives, particularly if the money involved is high. I just don't know.

I downloaded the trust wallet on my mobile device. It shows google drive instead of icloud. I think it's because of the device I used then if it is apple product then it's icloud and google drive for android mobile phones. Based on a little bit searching on google, they seem to have problems with their wallet before.

This brings back those lost memories about some lost coins through free wallet, whom intentionally allow users to create wallets using username and password only, they then proceed to changing the wallet address behind people's back.

When you log into the wallet you will meet with empty account with new address been generated, so I think Trust wallet can't be trusted anymore because it seems that they want people to lose their coins.

They are not babies in crypto business, so I believe they know better, there is something fishy with what they are doing, any crypto wallet that walks this path must not be trusted, I'm glad I abandon them long time ago, never going back.

Wallet softwares can be open source or close source and even you are not a developer, and don't have technical capability of checking those wallet softwares, you should always choose open source wallet softwares to use.

It's because with open source code, many developers can test and verify that wallet softwares, and give good reviews to you as well as the community.

But if you scroll down a bit, they also mention online backup as common mistake.

In fact, it's doubly wrong in my opinion, because placing the cloud storage on top of the different backup options encourages its use, rather than leaving it as a mere residual alternative that never hurts for those who, for some reason (which I do not understand), prefer to do it that way.

I don't understand the motivation to design things this way. Sometimes I think some developers forget at some point where all this comes from, but then you read the disclaimer below and realise that they are well aware of the risks.

If anyone should know better about crypto wallet it should be the makers, I mean those people who build wallet softwares for public uses, but I am here to tell beginners to be on guide as there are wallets out there that don't know what they are doing, or maybe they did it intentionally?

For you to be more safe, try to know about wallet and their various types and also make use of the one that is more common than the type of wallet you will not be familiar with, this same wallet also exist in categories and we should know which one will be best for us dependent on our demand, but Ideally, making use of a non-custodial wallet is more safer than any other type.

Pass key for wallet is childlike security, I is better to have a passkey and then a seed phrase backup to fortify the security system of the wallet.
People know no better, they get recommended a wallet and they trust without knowing how good or bad for their security it is.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Learning from others' mistakes saves you from costly errors. These common pitfalls catch many crypto users off guard.

Storing Backups Online
This represents one of the biggest risks new users face. Email accounts, cloud storage, and digital photo albums are vulnerable to hacking. Even encrypted files become targets if hackers gain access to your accounts. Physical offline storage provides much better security for your seed phrase.

But if you scroll down a bit, they also mention online backup as common mistake.
So why are they encouraging online backup when they know that it is not safe.

It was all over the news in 2022 when someone lost over $650 million of NFTs because of iCloud backup of his seed phrase.

https://bitpinas.com/cryptocurrency/hackers-metamask-icloud/

Also Trust wallet was the wallet I saw only one bitcoin server while you will see many bitcoin servers on other wallets. I do not know if it is still like that because I do not have the wallet on my device. This is one of the reasons you will see people complaining about the wallet.

It is also close source. One of the wallets that I can not recommend anyone to use.

I also previously used Trust Wallet. But now I no longer do. Whatever wallet you use, you should not store your recovery seed online. We know it looks instant to do and everything seems helpful. But it is really dangerous, especially if you are someone who actively surfs the internet with the same device. Whatever medium you use to store your recovery seed, keep it offline.

It's so funny how fast trust wallet fell off. I really don't know who to blame for it. They used to be among the best wallets back in the days especially when Eth and Tron wey so popular but now they are a ticking time bomb waiting for your money to be stolen.
For them to even recommend an online backup is absurd. This is why proper research and knowledge is needed, unknowing newbies will easily fall for this

Is it true that trust wallet fell off? I still have trust wallet installed in my device but don't have any fund in it.

Everyone suggest not to store private phase online for safety and it's true but I think just by storing private phase offline doesn't make us immune. What we need is we should never use that device for regular internet uses. Ones account is created then left it only for transections then shut it off.
You know even exchange's cold wallet gets hacked by hackers what can we even do? We can only pray nothing else

Beginners should basically avoid using wallets that are not open-source or completely non-custodial, and Trust Wallet is one of those wallets, it's not a completely non-custodial wallet because you only get a seed phrase for the whole wallet that you can only use in Trust Wallet, which means that in case they go out of service, there will be no way for you to access your funds, and, with them, you are not the only one controlling the assets because they hold your private keys, and as they say, "not your keys, not your coins.".

This is why it's important that newbies at least do some research before they start using certain wallets especially if they are planning to keep large amounts in it, because you wouldn't want centralization to haunt you even when you are into cryptocurrencies because we often see banks and other institutions blocking people's accounts and confiscating their funds and they have no way out of that, but in crypto, you can save yourself from that if you use non-custodial wallets.

This is why it is essential to always pay attention to details. They are offering a service that they know is risky. The question now is, why are they giving people such an option? I guess it is a marketing strategy since they know that some people are too lazy to keep their seed phrase offline. These days, people just want every process to be easy, so they don't want to put in even a small effort. It is also known that people don't learn until they become victims.

Are you trying to say that people shouldn't use their phones anymore because they have Bitcoin in a wallet. That doesn't make sense. Because not everyone can afford to get a hardware wallet and must people don't even store on their PC, a majority store on their phones either on exchanges or wallet. So does it means that everyone of them should no longer use their device to do other things?

The best way  I store my phrase is with paper and pen, as that is the only conducive one for me to do. I will never make the mistake of storing my details via cloud storage. Cloud storage is a third-party kind of thing, and it is not safe at all to even attempt doing so because if there is any compromise, my assets are all gone, but with my paper and pen, my assets are fully guaranteed, and there would not be any need for an alarm. So I do not use cloud storage for any sensitive information, as it compromises your wallet keys/sensitive information.
