Who here really follows bankroll management when gambling?

We always hear about it, people always say protect your bankroll, set limits, play safe, don’t chase losses. Sounds good when you read it, sounds right too.

But in real gambling, can you really keep doing it for a long time?
For me I can do it at first. First few weeks maybe, I follow it, I try to stay disciplined. But later on I get tired of it. It starts feeling boring and too controlled. Feels like the fun is not there anymore. Then I end up going back to my old way, more careless, just playing how I want because honestly that feels more exciting for me.

So I want to ask, are you also like that?
Can you really stick with bankroll management long term, or after some time you also stop following it because it gets boring and you want the old thrill back?

I totally agree that it’s getting harder to keep your bankroll and bets organized
But I do manage to keep my bankroll, I just do it in a simple way without so many rules

For example, I decide I’m going to spend X dollars on a league, I deposit that amount, and I have to stick to it for the entire season of that specific league
Sometimes I deposit a few dollars to play slots, and I stick to that set amount

It really is possible to organize things simply, just don't put too much rules

Even though sometimes I allocate more, it is not often. I routinely have a weekly allocation for my bankroll in my gambling account. If the allocation runs out before the time I reload, I will not place any bets. unless there is a weekly or monthly bonus that is credited, and I can still place a few bets with a small amount from that bonus. 
I try to be consistent in managing my bankroll. because I know the limits I can use. And I know bad risks can occur when I do not apply those limits consistently.

I'll tell you for free, it's very difficult to do when you keep all funds together and mentally have a projected budget which you want to follow, emotions would still take it's toll on you and you'll exceed your budget no matter how much you try.

This is why I started using separation of concerns method, like I've a different wallet which I send my gambling budget ASAP I get my inflow and have finished planning my spending. I only fund the casino from that wallet and it's easier to maintain because I've disciplined myself that I wouldn't fund the casino from any other medium apart from that wallet and when it's exhausted, I'll rest.

Funny to mention that even though I want to use a local being site, I still do P2P from that wallet to convert into a local currency and gamble. It's easier to maintain that way and I've had more success at maintaining my budget using this method.

I do follow a bankroll system. The system is not very strict, though, and sometimes I go over my bankroll, but I do have a system. I don't set out a specific percentage of income for gambling, but I have a system where I don't gamble more than a certain amount a week. So no matter how much I gamble, I won't exceed that amount. Sometimes, I may burn out that amount before the week runs out, and on the weekend, I might see very interesting bets, then I will take money from somewhere else to gamble, but it doesn't happen often. I don't set out an amount for gambling, but I have a cap, and even though every now and then, I fail to keep it, I still try to follow the rule I set for myself.

Firstly I will say that gambling starts as fun but if this only comes when you breaks your own rules then it means that the game has gradually getting in control over you. Because you see real fun do not suppose to be a reckless one and once the only time you feel that you're alive is when you can't control yourself then it shows that you're not self disciplined. For me, it’s quite simple. I can say it has become a habit, when you play with a fixed bet, you get used to it and stick to it without any problems. I also only bet on matches I’m confident in and that seem suitable for my strategy.

Since I’m a fairly responsible player, I don’t place many bets during the week. Not many at all, sometimes it’s 2–3 bets in week, sometimes even just one. So combined with a fixed bet, this is a very good setup for me.

When you have a defined bankroll, know how to calculate all the risks, set a proper fixed bet, and are able to stick to it, I think a player can almost completely eliminate risks in gambling for themselves. But if a player lacks discipline and can only follow certain rules for a while and then starts playing randomly, then of course that player will have more losses than wins.

You have between two things to decide.  You follow the limits and get only half the thrill while being happy at the end of the day or you do not follow the limits out of boredness and you get all the thrill of the moment but then you end up crying about how bad your life got.

I am guessing you could also drive at twice the legal speed around the city and skip all the stop signs to get all the adrenaline but it would then be very silly to cry about having to go to jail for it.  The rules are there for a reason, if you do not follow them then the consequences are on your back to carry.  If the limit was twice the speed, you would still want more only because most of us do not like boundaries.

My experience is very simple.  When I did not follow the limits, I got screwed.  And when I did not, I was simply lucky for it.

That’s useless for people who are not really ambitious when it comes to gambling. I assume you’re talking about sports betting, because it doesn’t really make sense to apply that to games like slots. In slots, that kind of approach will only make you last longer, not actually help you win, while in sports betting at least it still feels possible since there’s no real house edge there, at least that’s how I see it.

But honestly bro, it’s boring, at least for most of us. Whoever invented that probably was never really happy in his gambling life. Just kidding.

It's completely normal for every gambler to think they're the smartest person in the room. This game is all about self-discovery. Over time, we all realize that our mistakes are the same as everyone else's, but unfortunately, we have to experience them in practice, and that's the only way forward. I don't know of any gambler who would say, "I've learned from others' mistakes, and I'll start by following a strict theory that dictates playing only within the bank and narrow rules." There are no such people, and everyone has to learn their own lessons because they think they're the smartest.

Boring only if you’re the type who always wants action every day. But if you’re a disciplined gambler, then you know the fun only lasts while your bankroll is still there, and once you lose it, gambling time is over.

So maybe some people just allocate a weekly budget and make that amount last for the whole week. It doesn’t mean you need to gamble every single day. Unless of course you’re already addicted to gambling.

The way I see things, the bankroll management in gambling is completely essential to keep you from getting carried away, and the mere thought of abandoning it is a red flag for me, because I'm convinced that improvising in gambling can be dangerous.

I know my limits and stick to them no matter what. If I get an extra income in a given month I can increase my usual limit, but always in advance, that is, when planning for that month.

Yes, I stick to the limits I set for myself. Since I keep a budget, I understand what I spend on and what I can spend on.There are periods when I don't play at all, and this amount can carry over to the next months if I don't have any planned purchases.Many years ago, I played chaotically, but for the last couple of years, discipline in the game has become a rule, or even a tradition. If I've blown my budget, I don't play anymore.

If you've had a really bad taste of addiction or serious financial loss, you wouldn't be needing anyone to motivate you to keep to budget. Sticking to a budget is the best thing to do. Most times it's very challenging but you've to always remind yourself the consequences of going above your budget. It's good to remember that when you go over your budget unnecessarily, you'll have to be the one dealing with the financial pressure that comes from it in order to meet up, so it's wise to quit gambling when you've exhausted your budget, at least until the next inflow.

Don't you think it's better turn out boring than really playing and losing more than budgeted for? And it's only going to be boring when you have gambling as the only means which you use in killing your free time.

I try as much as I can to stay within my budget even when I manage to win I still get them off and don't try spend too much time and resources you can call it boring but to me it's just playing safe and protecting myself as much as possible.

There were even times that if I lose money in gambling, I may stop gambling for up to or mkret than 4 weeks. I lost around $20 three weeks ago but I did not gamble till now. Even I did not bet on the recent Champions and Europa Leagues that was played few days ago. But I will feel like to gamble again and gamble after some weeks. Not gambling is not boring for me. I am not a frequent gambler.
