Is this a secure way, or maybe we have better ways?
You can use old android phone offline, but you first need to reset it, turn off all connections, add strong password, and enable airplane mode. Android phones probably have backdoors, but Pixel phones are probably safest option because you can easily install open source GrapheneOS. I don't think Unstoppable wallet is working good in offline mode, but there are other wallets specifically made to work offline. I would rate any phone lower than proper hardware wallet, but they are still safer than regular hot wallets.

One option i have in mind is to buy one additional cheap phones and install our wallets in that phone and keep that phone offline most of the time and make it online only when you need to send the funds. We don't need the wallet to be online for receiving funds if we know the deposit address.
It will cost you less to buy a hardware wallet than to buy another phone. And the reliability of a hardware wallet is much higher than any hot wallet you use on Android. But if you still decide to use a separate phone, don't forget to save the seed phrase separately from your phone to keep access to your wallet.

I read your message properly, but I ignored that part because I am not that techy to apply security patches on the ROM, etc. So in my case, I format my old phone, install only Unstoppable Wallet, restore my wallet on that phone, and keep it only for holding crypto. I make another wallet on my active phone and keep less crypto for day to day use there so i don't have to login my old phone often.
So this approach good with my only concern i using an old phone where there are no more security patches.
That means you only need to avoid the phone from getting access to internet regularly, and you also need to keep your seed phrase safe and outside both your phones so that it can be saved offline for more security. Having the phone you stored your Bitcoin offline is very good idea to avoid phishing attempts that might come through unexpected phishing links and scams that might come through dm and so on; your Bitcoin will be safer if you can get hardware wallet instead, but since it is hard to get as you said in your location, then this method is a good method, just keep your seed phrase outside the device.

Even though using a separate device like that may seem safe, to me it feels better to just get a proper wallet instead of spending money to buy another device. But above everything and keeping your security phrase safe is the most important thing. The device we use daily is mostly used for browsing and through that browsing we sometimes fall into spam. So I think it’s better not to use the device where you keep your wallets for too much browsing.
I agree with you. A cold wallet is, in my opinion, the best solution a crypto holder can have. It’s reliable and really easy to use. On the other hand, there are wallets that are well secured, but like you said, you can always run into some spam, and that can end up costing you.

There have been lots of arguments and counterarguments on using an Android phone to store assets, but the truth is this, no hacker can access your phone without you granting them access through sharing of sensitive information or app approval on your device. Also, downloading apps into your device, you have no idea about also exposes your assets to risk, and that has cost people so many of their assets.
Well, if you can get a separate phone to only use for transactions without connecting or using it for browsing, then the risk is a bit reduced, but still, you have to be vigilant and careful how you interact with smart contracts so you do not get a dust attack.

Well, every now and then I hear that it is unsafe to keep a wallet on a mobile phone, especially the phones that we are using for day-to-day basis as a daily driver. So what can be done to secure our funds on Unstoppable and other Android wallets?
You're absolutely right in thinking that storing ALL your funds in a mobile wallet is unsafe (and unwise). If you adhere to the principle of risk diversification, then at a minimum, you should store your funds in different wallets. Only the necessary portion of funds should be stored in the wallets we use daily. In other words, these wallets should be used as transit wallets, to which you send funds from one of your main wallets. One option i have in mind is to buy one additional cheap phones and install our wallets in that phone and keep that phone offline most of the time and make it online only when you need to send the funds. We don't need the wallet to be online for receiving funds if we know the deposit address.
This method seems quite good, as it allows to maintain "digital hygiene" on an additional device and will prevent (minimize) the penetration of malware. Is this a secure way, or maybe we have better ways?
Yes. Use hardware wallets - specialized devices designed to store crypto, working in conjunction with a a smartphone + HW (seed phrase never leaves this device).

Some people are really don't care about making funds secure until it happens to them, some will even question the price of having a hardware wallets, but if you will think of it, having a million dollar worth of crypto, and a hardware wallet are couple of hundred dollars, which make it more secure, that is with following the standards, they will realized the value of it, unlike storing it on mobile phones that when stolen they can open and take everything. Having few funds in your phone is okay, but putting everything there is so risky and that is not recommended.

Our phones are called mobile phones because it is meant to be handled as a personal belongings and not a public one, carefully handling your phones without giving access to an outsider can never put your investments in jeopardy because they can never have access to your seed phase. The only way your investments can be tempted with is when access is given to your enemies but if not I see no risk associated with your investments available in your device. Because of the importance of the investments in your device you should not be moved by any information that involves receiving, sending and saving unknown applications to your device as that is where your wealth lives.

The reason people make the statement of mobile wallet to be unsafe is because the mobile wallet vulnerabilities risks like malware, phishing, and device theft. Therefore, installing wallet on phone and keep the phone offline most of the time while turn it online when want to make transaction is not enough.
First, you need to use a good wallet, make sure you're downloading the real wallet not phishing, use built-in phishing protections, keep your phone software updated, activate Google Play Protect (even though their service cant be fully trust), use reputable mobile security (like Kaspeersky), dont ue public WiFi with the phone, use VPN when you want to make transaction with the phone, store your wallet seeds offline, lookout for optup messages, and always double wallet address.

It depends on the amount of bitcoin you're willing to save using the android wallet if you have very large amount of bitcoin that you're planning on holding for long term, it would be best you get yourself a hardware wallet for security purposes but if it's some coin that's within a limited range then you can go ahead in making use of the android wallet but ensure your seed phrase is saved offline. And sometimes it'll be best not to carry that phone around everywhere you go to avoid exposure and risk of stealing your phone.

How is it different from buying the same hardware offline? If the android phone is left offline too?
Your option to buy a cheap mobile phone in addition, means that the cheap phone specifications are low, if for example it is left too long, it could be that your asset storage wallet application is no longer supported because your android OS may be old, so the latest applications are no longer compatible.
Storing assets on android phones is not recommended much, except for your daily transactions, for long-term better advice hardwallet.

A hardware wallet is indeed a better option and cheaper, but if the person already has a need and use for a new phone, that will be another way to just get a new device, and here also in my country, I don't trust the sellers and distributors of hardware wallets, it's easier for me to just get a phone and convert old one to an air gapped wallet.

Apple has one of the best store where apps are downloaded and I used to think Apple is better than Google store until recently somebody download a fake ledger live and loss it's entire bitcoin investment. Now, imagine if a place like App store that doesn't allow any how app on their store because of their policy, code review before allow public, android users are going to be too vulnerable than I thought. If it's not a cold storage, please try as much as possible to avoid mobile wallet for storage but you can use it for hot wallet for every day use. Every usage of Bitcoin apps comes with their demerits but there will not be any wallet by design that comes close to cold storage. There are couple of DIY airgap wallet that can be done with electrum, you can use it without any problem on your pc. If you don't have a pc, get a hardware wallet for as low as $50.

That's not a security tip for mobile wallets; developers maintain the wallet's utility without disrupting the phone's core functionality. Otherwise, it would be the most expensive wallet of all. Imagine if the latest wallet update required a higher OS version and your device no longer supported it. You'd have to buy a new one and then just keep it at home.

IMHO, it's the same as keeping an old laptop, downloading a desktop wallet and remaining it offline for a long time. It will work if that's really your plan but for how long you're going to do it? the longevity of android phones aren't that much and not longer than desktops or laptops. And sometimes it'll be best not to carry that phone around everywhere you go to avoid exposure and risk of stealing your phone.
Not sometimes but, at all times. It's best not to carry that phone where you have your assets stored. But let's just use these phones for the actual use they do for communication and leisure apps that we use and not for keeping our assets although it's handy, the risk is much higher than the recommended hardware wallets.

I believe he is from a place where he cannot get his hands on a hardware wallet officially/directly from the verified vendors. It says he is from Islamabad, which is the capital of Pakistan. And I Google searched a bit, as of 2026 they have established a legal framework for crypto (previously they were in some gray area). Not totally free but regulated and controlled now. So it's common for such places to not have any HW wallet sources. Mine doesn't have either (crypto is banned at my place). The only possible way i see now, is to buy one from abroad. Or use an alternative like using a 2nd phone (which should only be used for smaller amounts).

Is it even necessary to have your wallet import on your device? Unless you often perform transaction on your wallet I don't think it's necessary to worry about installing a wallet on your device. What you need is your public address which is also your deposit address you can use to receive funds in your wallet. If you're holding for a long time, keeping your wallet offline completely is the safest way to protect yourself as far as your private keys is not compromised. Just make sure your deposit address is correct and you can access all your deposited funds at a later year. In summary, you don't necessarily need to buy new phone just to install a wallet. Your key is actually your wallet and as long as it is safe, your wallet is safe even without importing it on any device.

You have a point but you seems not to understand that no matter the restriction Apple have for the app thats expected to be on their platform it does not mean they are doing the needed security checks and simultaneously review due to app developers editing their app code illicit purposes. The reason why Apple have some sort of restrictions and like limitations of app that will be on their platform is the act of marketing and roles of playing superiority. An example is what you just explained and the best thing as you also said is cold storage or hardware wallet. However, I hope the newbies reading this will also understand that using the wallet still does not guarantee security if they don't use the wallet securely.

Yeah, it looks like we already have something like that, and it’s called AirGap. You actually have two options. First, you can install their relevant apps, which will run sandboxed on a single Android phone. Or you can install them on two separate Android phones, with one of them kept completely offline. Using the second option which is definitely more secure you will end up with the setup offering features comparable to the best hardware wallets.

Well, every now and then I hear that it is unsafe to keep a wallet on a mobile phone, especially the phones that we are using for day-to-day basis as a daily driver. So what can be done to secure our funds on Unstoppable and other Android wallets?
One option i have in mind is to buy one additional cheap phones and install our wallets in that phone and keep that phone offline most of the time and make it online only when you need to send the funds. We don't need the wallet to be online for receiving funds if we know the deposit address.
Is this a secure way, or maybe we have better ways?
I used to be into a mobile phone with my crypto wallet which is Electrum so the thing I always considered is I have my antivirus on my phone which is before I used an ESET on that time and then next is I do always avoid clicking links from unknown sources, such as in social media even known person is I do avoid clicking links, downloading files and even downloading a cracked applications before one of the famous is a moded apps because of the games. Basically, restriction is a must; you need to discipline yourself at the same time. But I do recommend having a hardware wallet as much as possible if you have a budget for investment. I guess there is nothing wrong with investing in security, so a hardware wallet is a must right now for me.
