FWIW, there is an apparently malicious cryptocurrency scammer ring impersonating me on X: https://x.com/nt4tn_net (which uses my photo, and links to my bitcointak profile) They're also using a bunch of other accounts posting AI hallucinations (or just doctored AI output) "confirming" it's me: https://x.com/MageArez/status/2043422367054024831It's not me. I am not a X/twitter user. I have never been an X/twitter user. I believe the site has a bad design which has caused tremendous material harm to the world and that its bad history has only mildly been mitigated by improvements post acquisition. In so far as a person can be morally opposed to a website I am opposed to X. I will never post tweets on that platform and I have never had an account there (except some throwaway used to make reports that require an account). I also similarly avoid other microblogging platforms because they share many of the same flaws. I have previously written at some length about my thoughts on that platform: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/dv804k/comment/f7ctc2k/ so you can be confident that anyone implying they are me on that platform is a liar. ... and certainly anyone promoting some shitcoin or crypto ponzi scheme anywhere! X shows that the impersonator account originates from india. It's interesting that they're allowed to abuse account renaming to make it look like the identity is long established.

Scammers are immoral and thanks for notifying forum community about that. Could you confirm that do you have any account listed in https://bitcoindevlist.com/, please. I guess you don't but it's best if it is confirmed by you.

Nope, never heard of it. -- Also, I previously had some negative experience with donations in the past so I generally don't solicit them (and only have an address on my profile here because it's a requirement for the nominal mod payments I get from theymos).

I tried reporting the account for impersonation, but they have a slight flaw in their report system where the user being impersonated has to have an account on the platform, there's no way to skip that step in the report process.
I would have suggested you try reporting as the person being impersonated, but I'm not sure a throwaway account will count to their team in that regards and one report will not cut it to get an account banned

Those impersonators/scammers always try their best to prove that they're the genuine person and now since they can use/train AI models to mimic someone's writing, it's much easier for them to prove themselves. Platforms like X allow such scammers to operate, I believe we should report that scammer so X may ban the account and the impersonator may not get any success in deceiving others in name of gmaxwell.

Thanks for clarifying this. I try to report this account for impersonation but I don't have your official X profile that's why I wasn't able to report it. You should create your own X account so that we can at least report it.

I tried but they now require some kind of biometric scan and sending your ID information to a third party, recording a video of yourself with your shoe on your head, etc... I'm not going to do that, as I've already been hit by some pretty gnarly data breaches and I've seen direct evidence of how easy it is to buy confidential information sourced from places like twitter (e.g. via corrupt staff, fake LEO requests, etc). If someone wants to make a report on my behalf (which is an option there) and don't mind exposing yourself, you can have my authorization to do so.

The reporting process is different for a third party. I just need to be able to link the original X account being impersonated, if more people do so, it gets more attention and they take down the account. The personal identity of the reporter in this case does not matter. I understand why you wouldn't want to submit any of those documents, besides the risk of a breach, the system allows easy name changes, so multiple new accounts can spring back up at any time.

You have done very well by bringing up this issue here on the forum so no one will connect you and that X account in the future for scamming people on X, we all have known that an impersonator is doing everything possible to use your reputation in the forum to scam others. Secondly move this thread to Reputation board that is where it is suppose to be and not on the meta board. For the impersonator before he created that account with your forum name it means you didn’t have an account on X with your forum name and so it will be very difficult to bring down the account especially since the name used is not your real name and can’t be proved using your ID card. Since you can’t bring the account down if you want to help some people over there in X use your real account and comment scammer in few posts he make on X with a prove.

Damn, this is really wild. The scammer had everything thought through, and if he’s not stopped, this wouldn’t be the only successful scam attempt we’ll be seeing from him. And who knows how many more people he’s impersonating. I already made a report using the above link, and a screenshot of the post, and hope that’ll be enough to take down that account. But I believe if several users made this same report, it’ll attract more attention, so anyone who’s willing to give out their ID should also tag along… You have done very well by bringing up this issue here on the forum so no one will connect you and that X account in the future for scamming people on X, we all have known that an impersonator is doing everything possible to use your reputation in the forum to scam others. He didn’t say he didn’t have an account with his forum name, he clearly stated that he didn’t have an account on X/twitter at all, so how would he possibly go there to comment scammer? And even if he had an account, and decides to do that, do you think the scammer wont have it deleted immediately upon being notified?

~snip~ X shows that the impersonator account originates from india. It's interesting that they're allowed to abuse account renaming to make it look like the identity is long established.
Considering how many users they lost when Mr. Mars took over the company, I'm not at all surprised that they somehow approve things like this, because otherwise they would very easily lose at least another 25% or more users. That platform is turning into a scam paradise (if it hasn't already become one).

That platform is turning into a scam paradise (if it hasn't already become one). LOL it has already turn into scam paradise, a lot of scam are going on over there, I know few people who have been scam over there, X is the home of fake casinos, and even when people accuse the casinos page with good evidence they till won’t bring the account down, fake casinos and Ponzi scheme accounts are always untouchable in X. However the account renaming gmaxwell talked about happens in almost every social media platform. The best way to reduce scam in social media is when they always demand for National ID cards and make it compulsory that your information in your ID will be the same in your social media accounts, I believe in the future the government may make it this way. KYC in social media .

The irony is that they won't take an impersonation report without a national ID card and a "biometric face scan", but they're happy to post the scam material without any such identification by the poster. haha I think it's good that platforms don't require such identification, however-- the ability to speak anonymously/pseudonymously is important for public discourse and in the US we even regard the ability to do so as a right. The US owes its existence to pseudonymous publications, e.g. The Federalist Papers and Franklin's rallying against British rule under the name Candidus. But it should be symmetric-- it's not reasonable to make reporting fraud and impersonation many times more difficult that perpetuating the fraud and impersonation. In the US case law teaches that our to speak are mirrored by parallel and equally potent (if less explicitly named in law) rights to _not speak_. Someone publishing under a pseudonym has the right to do so in the US and also has a right to not have words falsely put into their mouth by an impersonator. X's requirement to provide the most invasive personal information possible online in the form of video biometrics undermines that right. Of course, in the US our rights are generally rights verses the government and not private actors like X-- but X heavily fashions itself as the modern public square. And unlike the positive case of choosing to speak where if I don't like X's rules I could speak elsewhere the ability to go elsewhere doesn't help when there is someone on X impersonating me and making me look like a scammer.

Money doesn't unlame the lame. The fact that he could, does not imply that he should. That platform is turning into a scam paradise (if it hasn't already become one).
Not just that, you're often welcomed with an endless scroll through poorly automated, nonsensical AI slops. ( Cutleries getting pregnant for some other weird object? Tf) Edit: But it should be symmetric-- it's not reasonable to make reporting fraud and impersonation many times more difficult that perpetuating the fraud and impersonation. With the fact that the post on X looks more like a bait to get your attention and/ get you trying to defend the allegations than factual accusation, the data is more important to them than you clearing the air. And unlike the positive case of choosing to speak where if I don't like X's rules I could speak elsewhere the ability to go elsewhere doesn't help when there is someone on X impersonating me and making me look like a scammer.
Notice the pattern?

It's interesting that cheater found really old twitter account that was created back in 2009. You can try reporting him for Impersonation, but there is no guarantee support will ban him, and you need to have X account for that. It would not surprise me if they give him verified check soon... X shows that the impersonator account originates from india.
Tech support scammer, and most of X stuff is probably from the same country

Sometimes I try to phantom what level of non ethnicity prompts people into seeing scamming as a normal thing or a literal job. Well it is as expected and it's a general issue I think you should add something like a warning just to inform people ahead. The most meme coin and scam profitability stems from hype. This is literally the reason why they need a name people can trust decently. That aside I think this post should be in reputation board you can just leave a link here for extra visibility.
