According to Naija News. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu convened an emergency security meeting in Abuja with top military and intelligence officials. The Nigeria security challenge is enormous. We continue to hear news of killing, and destruction of lives and properties day in and day out, and am sure this is not the first time this kind of meeting is coming up. Yet, there seems to be no positive outcome.

Am prompted to ask this question, does it mean the federal government of Nigeria can not put to an end this high level of insecurity challenge or the the insurgency and security challenge is being politicized?

I don’t think it is as simple as saying the government is not being able to end it but it is sure very clear that the current approach is not giving the people the result we all expect. The insecurity in this country has grown into something very deep, different causes and issues that can’t even be fixed overnight. But at the same time we all have every right to be frustrated  because when life are lost almost everyday, we just can’t keep being patient anymore, it starts to feel like there is a disconnection between what is been discussed in those meetings and what we are actually experiencing. What really matters now is far beyond that meeting they are having behind closed doors rather what matters is what changes afterwards. Are communities safer, are life safer, are attacks reducing? Right now that visible change is what the people are looking for and until it happens , the doubt and questions will keep coming.

With the current situation of this country I think the emergency security meeting should hold on every 2 days because these people are also increasing everyday coming out with a different strategies, let's forget about everything like infrastructure and other things but you see security, they should put more focus on that because if the life and property. If life and properties have been secure even the economy of the nation will be balance and that also we encourage more investors from outside the Country to come in and do their businesses.

It's like things are getting out of hand when it come to security of this nation, recently I realized that our uniform personnel are seriously facing a lot in terms of salaries, it is not encouraging at all, it's better they should do something because once you pay them well that will encourage them to do their job with sincerity.

It’s not about holding emergency meetings every now and then but for our government to actually stand their ground and effect a change, this isn’t the first time they are holding emergency meetings regarding the insecurity yet things keeps on going out hand, no terrorist group can be bigger than a country if the country is really ready to fight and end it, don’t you observe that even with the US military intervention that nothing has really changed, this whole killings are just political some people are making money from it while some are using it as a strategy to canvas vote come 2027, some of our military chiefs likes the killings because it is an avenue for sharing money from arms deal.

Any day our government is actually ready they will end this insurgence, who is Boko haram and what war strategy do they have to defeat a countries army, so to me it’s not about calling for meetings every now and then but the willingness of the government to effect a change.

This was literally the same thing we had during the time of buhari, there we are countless security meetings but there was nothing to show for it, and the whole thing really got me upset, and now we are still having countless security meetings with the President. My point is, this guy's should just get to work and stop telling us about their meeting that has been counter productive. Move the troops to the flashpoint, and the the air force do their jobs, there are drones to do this jobs .

Honestly I understand your point especially the part about security being the foundation because without safety both  in my else can really work properly but I don’t think it’s just about how meetings are held. Even if they meet every day, what the people really want to see is action and result . Communities need to actually feel safer not just head that meetings are happening. Also the part you mentioned about the military personnel is very important why because when those responsible for protecting our lives are not well paid or properly supported, it affects morale and that can reflect in how they carry out their duties but at the same time, security is not about just about the military or the police alone, it also involves intelligence, the community cooperation most importantly, proper equipment and they also need a long term planning. You are right though, once security improves, a lot of other things will naturally fall into place including the economy. The people are not asking for too much, we just want to feel safer again in our own country.

What is your take on this?

It is not by holding emergency meetings that won't yield any possible changes on the security issues that has been rocking the country but by taking actions to curb insurgency in the country, what's the need of having meetings upon meetings and the terrorist keep increasing in their numbers and be dominating different states. If meetings are held and afterwards we hear ten camps where the bandits are, are destroyed with airstrikes we will be happy and applaud the government .

The problem we have is that government politicise with the security of the country since they are not directly affected by the killings so they don't have empathy for the people. The federal government is not ready to take out the Boko Harams and those that are terrorizing this country because they are part of it, I watched a video of Arum that was kidnapped on his way to Kaduna and how they are torturing the young man without putting on mask and I wept because they know the government are powerless and nothing will be done, we hope for the better and pray this time the emergency meetings be for the interest of the people and proffering solutions to end the killings.
