I downloaded the wallet and there is something strange.  Undecided

When you click "Create a New Wallet", this is what you get

They request for email. First red flag.

Out of curiosity, I did set up one email, I was sent OTP and wallet was created with backup strongly recommending Icloud back up. Second red flag.

The worst part.
I log out and tried to "login to an existing wallet", my email was requested, I inserted the email and OTP was sent, input it and wallet login. I gained access to the wallet without recovery phrase.

If your email is compromised, your asset is gone.

This is not self custody, don't use.
I think you guys do not have information or experience in the altcoin world. Yes this is not good in terms of the usual standards for Bitcoin wallets, but you seem surprised like something is new when this is nothing new. Many wallets in the altcoin space have added this kind of option in the recent years and it has been seen as a great solution for inexperienced users that reduces the friction for getting involved in the crypto space. Tether did not do anything new here, they just followed the current practices from the shitcoin space to develop and release a very simplified wallet. Yes we can scrutinize various aspects and ideas about it but we should not act as if it is something new and wrong has been done here.

Okay, school me "altcoins wizard".

Is this an altcoin? Huh!

Tether controls billions of dollars stable coins, that's a market cap bigger than 50% of altcoins market cap. They have stable coin across popular chains you can think of, this same company has more enough staff than any company would ever think, they built a wallet only to be accessible by an email, in 2026? You and the company need help bro, even if they are creating something that's human readable, easy and accessible, email alone shouldn't be the only criteria, if your email is hacked all your asset is gone for good.

For your info, there is nothing special about the domain username on Tether wallet. The domain is an identifier for each wallet for internal transactions, you  can't use it outside the wallet.
Phantom wallet has domain and they are not even as daft as this to implement an email wallet, it's strictly recovery phrase.
Why not just create another PayPal so we know it's another thing and not wallet.

Too late. Also not interested in it. I could have some interest in it if they did this a couple years ago maybe but not now. Not anymore. I would rather keep my money in btc or/and xmr and ride the volatility instead. If I wanted to use USD, I would use legacy banking. I don't trust tether co. with that crap. Some people will find it useful though. I can't deny that. Hopefully nobody will get hurt. The US government is paranoiac and want to know who you are and what you are doing with your (actually it is theirs in reality) USD. It is impossible for me to believe that they will let us do USDT transactions freely. No way.

When I first heard about the Tether wallet, I actually thought it wasn’t an official Tether product, but then I realized it is

I wonder if, once you have USDT in the wallet, you can freely transfer it between supported networks?
That might be an interesting feature, I’ll look into it

However, it’s going to be really hard for me to use, and I don’t think most users here will use it

If these don't work temporarily then you won't be able to send anything from those wallets. So how is this any different it is just another system of the same thing?
What I quoted is the problem, they don't allow you to be completely self-custody because this constraint would probably no longer rare, and the initial barrier is already established: you can't use native coins as a GAS alternative on this wallet.

Any technical issues that are that big happen rarely and when they do they are usually lifted quite fast.
The word "quite fast" can be countered with "depends."

I refer to the fact they may collect "unencrypted cryptographic seed material". So i decided to archive their privacy policy page on https://web.archive.org/web/20260415082316/https://wallet.tether.io/application-privacy/, in case they update it later.
Not me saying it will be encrypted lol..

I just downloaded and verified myself, the wallet doesn’t allow usage of password as if you’re creating an account, instead it only uses verification code  everytime you try to sign in.

This only means one thing, nothing was encrypted and even if they did there’s no way to really proof how they did it or there isn’t any extra log somewhere.

The seed can be imported but so far they are doing all those extra background magics.. it only means one thing which is controlling of users account just like exchanges.

The only way I think it is better than C-exchange is just that users are not forced to give up their full KYC details, email can be private. But,all about it screams centralization

Tether Wallet does not charge you any fees for sending or receiving tokens.

However, every transaction on a blockchain requires a small network fee (sometimes called a "gas fee"). This fee does not go to Tether — it is paid to the network that processes your transaction. The amount varies depending on which network you use and how busy it is at the time.

Before you confirm any transaction, the app will always show you the exact fee so there are no surprises. You will see the amount the recipient will receive, the network fee, and the total cost, both in the token you are sending and in its US dollar equivalent.

However, it’s going to be really hard for me to use, and I don’t think most users here will use it
We are already comfortable with the wallet we used before. Wink

This strengthens the reasons to avoid this wallet..

This is just another close wallet that I can not use.

Just 5 downloads on Playstore since since 5 days ago that it was listed on Playstore. I may still test the wallet but not being open source discouraged me already.

If there are more downloads, I will test it, but I can not use it.

That is very strange and unusual.

Maybe tether isnt publishing content about it yet? They could just make a few Twitter posts to get hundreds of users

I will probably use it later on, at least to try out. I still have aqua wallet in my phone  and this one looks promising and a strong competitor.

Thanks for the explanation  Wink
It’s probably just like a regular wallet
Looks like I’ll need to test it out to clear up my doubts

But I still have a question: I’m going to look into whether the USDT in this wallet works freely across all networks, that is, could I deposit via the Ethereum network and then use it on the Solana network?
Or do I need to manually bridge it, just like with any other wallet?

Because this wallet does not accept any tokens other than stablecoins and BTC.

This does not mean that I cannot send ETH to the wallet address to cover gas fees.

Perhaps Tether automatically sends a small amount of ETH to an address generated by the app whenever USDT is received there, in order to cover gas fees, and then gradually recovers the equivalent amount in USDT as those funds are spent?

I asked the AI support assistant on the Tether website about this. However, their assistant got stuck for 12 hours and never responded.

But I still have a question: I’m going to look into whether the USDT in this wallet works freely across all networks, that is, could I deposit via the Ethereum network and then use it on the Solana network?
Or do I need to manually bridge it, just like with any other wallet?
The wallet doesn't operate with the Solana network. For USDT, only Ethereum, Plasma, Polygon and Arbitrum are available.

I see an oddity here: according to Tether, their tokens are not issued on Arbitrum and Polygon, yet the wallet allows sending and receiving them via these networks. That said, I am not an Ethereum expert, and the explanation might be simple: both Arbitrum and Polygon are L2 solutions for Ethereum, and sending tokens through them could be similar to sending BTC via sidechains. After all, bitcoins are not issued on sidechains either, but they can still be sent and received there.

USDT can be issued natively on Ethereum L2s, similar to how it is issued on BTC’s Liquid Network natively. They just haven’t chosen to do so because most of those chains aren’t popular enough. On chains where it’s not issued, they have a bridged version called USDT0, which is backed 1:1 with USDT on Ethereum.

Can you test whether it supports hardware wallets or whether it is possible to extract wallet seeds or import them into any other wallet?

If it is not possible to extract the private key, it is best not to send tokens that do not appear in this wallet.

I managed to obtain the private key. To do this, I took the seed phrase from Tether Wallet, imported it into Trust Wallet, verified that both the Bitcoin address and the Tether token addresses were the same as in Tether Wallet, then enabled the option to export the private key in the developer settings in Trust Wallet, went to "Manage Wallets", and retrieved the private key.

Tether.wallet uses gas abstraction features and paymasters smart contracts where the gas fee will be deducted directly from the token to be sent instead of the original token such as ETH, MATIC, BSC.

Sending USDT on the network, BSC, Polygon and Plasma will be cheaper.
Sending USDT in ETH network may be a little higher, but I don't think it will be more than $1.

I asked the AI support assistant on the Tether website about this. However, their assistant got stuck for 12 hours and never responded.
AI Grok is much better in my opinion. Cheesy

Available networks:
USD₮: Ethereum, Polygon, Plasma, Arbitrum
USA₮: Ethereum
XAU₮: Ethereum, Polygon, Plasma, Arbitrum
Bitcoin: Bitcoin (on-chain), Bitcoin Lightning (for faster, lower-cost Bitcoin transfers)

It’s pretty funny that they don’t support the USDT TRC20 standard - the #1 most popular network for USDT. Or maybe #2 now, but still extremely popular.
I honestly don’t see the point of this wallet if they don’t even support their own USDT across all the chains they operate on. Not to mention other red flags like email registration…

Anyway, I’ll stick with using Gem Wallet for USDT.

Can you test whether it supports hardware wallets or whether it is possible to extract wallet seeds or import them into any other wallet?
They provide a valid seed phrase, so it should work with hardware wallets as well.. I only tested it with Bitcoin and all the addresses matched.

For others, I’m not sure they’re using the standard derivation path m/44'/60'/0'/0/c.  I tried multiple tweak and checked up to 100 address [indexes], none matched what the wallet generated.

They might be using a non standard path, or it could be something that will be fixed and supported properly in their future.

My opinion regarding the wallet doesn’t change though..

I just noticed USAT, the one launched on January 2026.

So, speaking about Polygon and Arbitrum, what does Tether consider as USDT in their new wallet? USDT0 or something else?

Available networks:
USD₮: Ethereum, Polygon, Plasma, Arbitrum
USA₮: Ethereum
XAU₮: Ethereum, Polygon, Plasma, Arbitrum

BTC on Spark is also available.

Not only have they chosen not to support many of the networks where they issue their tokens, but they also support networks where they do not issue them instead.

As I recall, "bridged USDT" on the Polygon network did not even have a blacklist function in its smart contract. I do not know how it is now (especially with USDT0), but if that is still the case, it is even more puzzling that Tether added this particular token to its wallet. And in that case, why not also add the Liquid network, where Tether likewise has no control over the tokens? It could have helped boost that network's popularity as well.

I did tested too, I used 3 other wallets and got different address but I find out Tether wallet uses ERC-4337 account abstraction for EVM chains using BIP39 seed, you can see that on the fourth row on the EVM wallet modules and the doc here.

It’s pretty funny that they don’t support the USDT TRC20 standard - the #1 most popular network for USDT. Or maybe #2 now, but still extremely popular.

The wallet will support Tron, as you can see the network supported from the wallet modules, there is Bitcoin, EVM chains, Tron, Ton, Solana, and Spark. Only Bitcoin, EVM chains and Spark are supported for now, probably they will be deploy in the other future versions.

For mainstream users, it might be a "good wallet", since there's no point in warning them not to use a wallet that asks for their email address when creating or restoring the wallet, but, from a non-technical, lay user's point of view, it might be a good idea to use usernames to receive and transfer tokens.

Does anyone know if it allows creating seeds offline (probably not)? Does the user have access to the seed?

Is the email always linked to access to the newly created wallet? If that's really true, what a silly idea...  Cheesy

Anyway, I don't see a reason to install this wallet yet, I'm probably not the target audience. The ones I've here already serve me very well, there are so many good options that I get lost.

I don’t really know much about that, but the main question is how will users recover their assets when they need to since it won’t show up on EVM wallets.

The closest answer I could find was ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/147581/erc4337-account-abstraction-access.. I don’t even want to wrap my head around that fn, but afaic the Bitcoin import works, which is fine.

The only thing to worry about is the wallet not being open source, so there’s no way to verify whether there’s a backdoor to the seed phrase itself or  it’s truly encrypted with what ABCbits posted earlier . Otherwise, Bitcoin can’t be frozen on-chain..

Does anyone know if it allows creating seeds offline (probably not)?
No.. there first thing it shows you is a full page requesting your email , then a code from the email.. you can’t skip any so your wallet must be connected to internet to create any wallet.

Does the user have access to the seed?
Yes but after the whole onboarding process  Smiley

To access tether-wallet, yes  but to recover your Bitcoin on another wallet you can use the seed. There’s no direct import on the wallet itself.
