Massive Spam & Malware Campaign by user 'olvin' (u/969398) – Action Required

Hello everyone,

I’m posting this to get mods to step in quickly help protect users here from a user who has been spamming the forum with threads about a scam project. The project uses a wallet that looks infected with malware and fake mining scripts while also promising crazy returns to bounty hunters similar to a Ponzi/pyramid scheme.

I already made a scam accusation about him and tagged his account. Also, I have reported his posts, but they remain unhandled.

I’m posting this in Meta hoping the mods to take quick action before more users get affected.

I looked at his post and I saw a post where he claimed his website holds all private key information and every missing word could be found in his website. He tried to lure people to use the site and having Bitcointalk as target I perceive that every link he drops in the forum probably has a malware that could steal or monitoring viruses, since his persuasive on people checking it out.

But however, the account not getting numbed yet is probably because Bitcointalk is an upholder of freedom but now maybe people’s safety should prioritized more in this users case.

Click infection is the key point of the scam, the user is really very aware of Bitcointalk and how its rules a bent so he is trying to navigate it and do his stuff by launching the virus as bounties etc.

If you notice a user who is posting suspicious or malware links constantly, then you don't need to report all the posts. It's extra work for moderators that keep unhandled for longer. Simply report one of the posts and write a comment to review this user's post history. The rest of the things will be handled by the moderator. It does work; previously I have done this.

Bitcointalk allows freedom of speech but not malware links or phishing links. Since scams aren't moderated, you have to report suspicious links or malware links. The moderator will handle it.

Right! The reason why it wasn’t nuked yet is probably because the global mods hasn’t find enough reasons to ban the user, but through this there they most have done or will.

You’re right that freedom of speech nor malicious links, the user spammed the links to well knowing direct spam won’t be allowed so he used the bounty partner. I’m also suspicious that the user is already existing user hunting victim with that account.

The good news is that the account has now been banned. I believe most of the malicious posts or spam have also been deleted. Took quite a bit of time, but all is good now. I guess this thread has served its purpose.

Big thanks to our mods for keeping the community safe and for taking action to ban this scammer’s account, as well as for their responsiveness in reviewing the submitted reports and deleting his posts.

This shows that bitcointalk doesn’t tolerate scams and malware; this can harm people’s devices and funds, and not something that’s accepted here.

Since the matter is now resolved, I am locking this thread.
