My concern is why they are so concerned about gamblers? Why not allow people to do what makes them happy? This is the 21st century every adult have the right to do what makes them happy, there are other addictions like drug addiction etc, why haven’t the government completely rehabilitate those that are involved.

Don't be harsh on the government too much because they are trying their best to better the lives of the citizens of their country, the government have been fighting drug addiction for so long and they have tried their best to not make it socially and easily accessible in the country hence you should not act like they have not fought against drugs. Why the government are fighting casinos currently is because they have noticed the high rise of gamblers getting addicted because of how easy it is to gamble these days and social media is a big contributor to this factor.

A lot of casinos are being advertised on social media and most of them don't even have restrictions for underage gambling hence they are encouraging underage gambling and this is becoming a problem because a country that it's youth are becoming useless because of gambling won't have a future for the country as the youth are the ones that are supposed to take up the leadership of the country when the older generation retires.

Do you guys think Indonesia should require social media platforms to contribute to gambling addiction treatment programs?
This makes non sense. As far as i know gambling contents are prohibiting in there. It's influencers who got hired by gambling sites to promote their gambling contents. So the social media companies have nothing to do because they can't control anything created by the influencers.
So i think to push social media companies to contribute to the gambling addiction treatment is out of logic.

Should the government pay social media platforms foe the positivities they slso bring to the country? This kind of double standard should not be encouraged at all, you can't blame them when things go wrong without commending them when things turn up good, if they are to be held responsible for the addiction rate and should be made to pay for it then all of the good things thst they bring to the country should warrant them getting compensated as well.

The big problem here would be the execution and implementation. Should the government of Indonesia pass such law, I wonder how they would enforce this law on various social media platforms and the enforcement of penalties thereof.
I think it would've been better if the proposal was aimed on gambling operators instead, since they are the root cause of the problem anyway. This makes a lot more sense than making social media companies pay for the development of rehabilitation services. What these platforms can do instead is to have tighter restrictions and regulations on gambling advertisements.

I guess the point is that this social media companies are being used as a avenue to promote gambling itself. And so they need to do policing and clean up the messed that this gambling platform and their influencers are doing under their nose.

But it's going to be a burden and hard for the implementation. As we all know that social media is a separate entity of their own and there are no laws that govern or cover them. So not sure if this is going to be successful as it has a lot of barriers to start with.

I guess this is a huge concern for most of the countries. With the high demand of social media, online gambling operators find it easier to lure the people through using the social media platforms, hence they should also be responsible whatever outcome they create particularly on the minor and innnocent ones.

The proposal of Indonesia is actually a smart move. But I think if only Indonesia will make an effort of it, this concern will not be heard. There should be a unanimous decision from majority of the countries so that these online gambling owners or operators will also be obliged to take accountable with the outcome of their business.

The one who creates the problem should feel responsible for being the solution to it, at least partially. Therefore, I don't see anything wrong if those who earn a lot from advertising don't give a small part of that profit to help those who become addicted to gambling because of that advertising.

Who knows, maybe someone will think of asking the same thing from this forum, because realistically most of the advertisements have direct links to online gambling.

Do you guys think Indonesia should require social media platforms to contribute to gambling addiction treatment programs?
I would say yes for platforms like Instagram and YouTube, but no for the creators. I don’t think creators should be blamed for the addiction. They promote casinos to earn money and make a living. If anyone is responsible, it should be the platforms.

I don’t understand why casino ads are allowed on social media platforms. These days, many teenagers have access to social media, and this creates a bad influence on them. And don’t tell me that social media platforms can’t recognize gambling related promotional content. They can, just as they filter hate speech and pornographic content.

So, I want to see what judgment the Indonesian judicial system gives.
Creators and influencers are not the ones to be blamed, but their online gambling heads and bosses that offer them task to promote gambling. Since gambling casinos are making massive amount of income, online and offline, then they should also find means to contribute funds for gambling addiction rehabilitation centers.

This isn't much for them if all casinos will participate the campaign. The social media owner should also take serious efforts on making this possible, and set strict rules and regulations for all gambling platforms that would want to make social media the bridge for the success of their business.

To be truthful. They are right, but they are incorrect when they say that social media contributed to gambling treatment. In fact, social media has contributed to many of the negative things that we see in this century.
The days of underage children not having access to illegal content are long gone, and through the power of social media and the internet, they can access adult content, watch deceptive videos, and more.

That's true but then it's up to a parent to control what their children have access to, blaming the internet for it's content because some child somewhere decided to visits site that are restricted to adults won't be the sites fault, maybe if the parents tried to control their child then that wouldn't have happened, and that's why I like my country, we are not all like the west where a child is said to still be under their parents but can say know to their parents and the system will support them, if you are under them then you are to do what they say.

In some areas, it's the website owner's fault.
Countries like China understand this and provide certain rules and regulations for the websites that are available to their citizens. Because there is some content that social media holds back and only makes available to people who are 18 and above.
This is something instagram practise i dont know if they do the same thing in your geographical location.

maybe if the parents tried to control their child then that wouldn't have happened, and that's why I like my country, we are not all like the west where a child is said to still be under their parents but can say know to their parents and the system will support them, if you are under them then you are to do what they say.
Yes, parents also have a role to play in teaching their kids morle nd put parental control on all their gadgets. This will prevent children who are underage from abusing no KYC gambling platforms.

Content creators should also take some responsibility. Many of them make so much money since they have a large followership. Followers use their promotion code to gamble. They contribute to the increase in the rate of gambling activities in most countries.

They goverment should also mandate them to contribute some part of their income to help in financing gambling addiction treatment programmes. If you watch the way some of these influencers assure followers of wins in gambling, you would begin to imagine if they have the strategies for constant wins. So they should also be held responsible for gambling disorders.

Anyone who is with their parents should be that able to endure with whatever that is coming from their parents, and of course your parents can never let you go the wrong lane or way because they would always want their children to be better than them. Same also is applicable, when you are at home as parents, you know what you should be accessing in the front of your children because they are imitators of what their parents is doing. So if their parents goes the right way then something good would definitely come to their children but, if they missed track then it surely affect everyone around them.

It is absolutely not right to do something in front of your child that can put your children in great danger in the future, children definitely imitate their parents. So parents should always do good things in front of their children so that the child can learn something good by watching it. There are many parents who think that their children are young now so anything can be done in front of them, they do not see this matter with much importance, but I think it is very important for parents to be aware at all times. Children are encouraged to do good things by the good work of their parents, so it is very important for us to do good things in front of our children.

This is ordinary proposal and nothing has been done about that. Any people can say what they like about gambling and the government also have to fixed the problem to help people to stay focus so that they don't have to be gambling everytime.
Those gambling when they don't have a job, can easily get addiction within any period of time.

First and foremost social media doesn't Force anyone to gamble despite they contribute in spreading gambling information, it is the duty of people to chose to gamble or not. But however since the government has proposed that social media should financially support gambling addiction, by providing them with treatment center it is now left for social Media to do it or not. I doubt if social Media will do that because if they do, it will attract other countries to do thesame. I know this is a threat to this social media in Indonesia but trust me, social media will not do it, the highest Indonesia government can do is to ban gambling because they can not ban social media.
This argument is as useless as it is wrong and stupid. Nobody makes nobody do anything, so we might as well advertise alcohol, smoking, gambling and even drugs to children. Why make anything illegal or restricted, nobody is responsible for anything since people make their own decisions. Give a child some guns, drugs and put him in a casino.  Roll Eyes Social media is an abomination, a pure cancer and only the dumbest of the world would defend platforms like that. They have objectively contributed nothing good to humanity at all and have extracted massive value, they are manipulating everything that you do -- including your defense of them, yet we should give them the benefit of the doubt. Spare the poor social platforms, will anyone think of poor Zuck. Cry Cheesy Cheesy

The fact is that people do not "make decisions on their own". Most humans are psychologically extremely vulnerable, and well developed platforms are exploiting these vulnerabilities to make people do things that they would not otherwise do if this kind of manipulation was absence. Therefore, they are in fact actually directly responsible for a lot of the bad behavior that others engage in. As such, they should absolutely be punished.

This is ordinary proposal and nothing has been done about that. Any people can say what they like about gambling and the government also have to fixed the problem to help people to stay focus so that they don't have to be gambling everytime.
Those gambling when they don't have a job, can easily get addiction within any period of time.
Governments don't fix problems, governments create problems.

According to the article, Lawmakers in Indonesia are proposing that social media should financially contribute to gambling addiction treatment programs in the country. From what I understand, their reasoning for it is because social media helps circulate gambling content online.

Do you guys think Indonesia should require social media platforms to contribute to gambling addiction treatment programs?
Social media have played a great role in the circulation of gambling contents like ads so yeah they're involved besides it wasn't a free ads that they did, they got their pay and only God knows how many persons  consumed those ads and became addicted because of the continues reminder. The most annoying part is that these social media ads are not regulated and therefore even kids and exposed to these things that will surely get to their head one way or the other.

I will agree with the Indonesian law makers that social media is contributing to the wide spread of gambling among citizens. If you go to the social media platforms, this are places where you see many gambling content, and these gambling contents possibly lure some people into gambling, and for this reason, it is not totally wrong if the Indonesian law makers demands the support of these social media platforms to support gambling addiction program. To me, this program is a very good initiative because is a way of sensitizing gamblers on how to gamble responsibly.

Lol Grin Grin. Social media is a other addiction on it's  own, if not how do you think content creators and streamers  make moeny? It's obvious that most of people behind those views are likely addicted. Why not just get money from both side to fund their addiction programme Cheesy ?

That specific  reason is dumb to me . Go after the influencers and account promoting them so they can advertise the right way, it's  quite easy by contacting Facebook it self. But with my guess, I think they are only after making money from it too.

The contents creators are only doing there jobs and I don't see it right for anyone to blame them for whatever they are promoting especially gambling site/ casino.
It is only those that have the intention of gambling that will allow what ever advert they see online to push them into gambling. So even without content creators there will definitely be majority of people that will still go into gambling.
