~snip~ At the moment, there are no information from the police about who did this, but it's quite unclear why people or a person would attack a peaceful decentralized statue of a great man.
You ask that question at a time when hundreds of innocent people are killed every day, literally for fun, in all parts of the world. Apart from that, I already wrote it before, all these statues represent a person or persons who have clearly shown that they want to be anonymous, and I really don't see the purpose of their existence, except maybe to annoy some people who then destroy them. Also, after the first incident, the people behind that project announced that the statue would be protected from further vandalism - I wonder how much a quality surveillance camera and the sign "the area is under video surveillance" costs.

The first time the attempted to destroy it into the sea, it was later recovered and they couldn't achieve their target to see its existence no more, so we are not moved by all these threats to destroy the statue because even satoshi himself as divers and counter again Bitcoin in other for the government and people to destroy it from ever being existing, so this items shows that there must be someone in particular, lurking around to ensure that such does not exist any longer, he must be the one behind the first attempt and this same incident that happened.

An fence should be built around the statue to prevent future vandalizations because if no action is taken, more people will see it as a norm and continue. In addition to my suggestion about the fence, I suggest that a warning should be place around it as well. So no matter what the intention of the person whether hate, frustration, or they want to pass a message, there will be deterred.
You made an excellent suggestion too, But I suggest that a security camera should also be put in place as another good security measure to capture whoever that's into this act, and so they can be brought to justice why they're destroying the satoshis's statue and even be fined for it if possible, so others will desist from doing same in the future, and lastly, a caption be written near it “destroying of this statue will attracts a fine”

i wonder what their problem is with bitcoin or with satoshi. if they do not want to use it then there is no one forcing them to do so. why not just mind their own business?! people really are crazy

I have seen it over the years here in my country where bus stop shelters get vandalized . . . for no apparent reason other than brainlessness. Some people just like destructing and destroying things in the public space. If anyone was into "crypto" I cant see them having an issue with the statue, without Satoshi Crypto may not exist in its current form. So everyone in crypto should be respecting Satoshi.

The status is just a representation of the great Bitcoin father , "Satoshi" and it doesn't in anyway remove or add anything to what he has built. They can destroy it a thousand times over, but Bitcoin would rise to see them fail on their 10million attempts to destroy it.
Destroying the statue is something I would imagine somebody would do in anger after they lost their Bitcoin because they were trading Shit Coins or because they did not know how to keep it secure enough. They would need a really low activity in their brain to think this could do any damage to Bitcoin itself. I think your view has a false assumption that their brain is thinking that this would do damage to Bitcoin. This is in a way a moment of rage like children get upset at something wrongly. Perhaps the user has been wronged, scammed, or never understood Bitcoin at all and come into it with false assumptions about it. Instead of taking responsibility for their own decision, this could be a mental coping mechanism where they shift the responsibility to the thing itself. So it is not that the person committed a mistake, they blame Bitcoin for being how it is and it is Bitcoins fault for what happened to them. Yes this is quite immature, but from what I can observe many people try to dodge responsibility like how when we were kids we tried to hide from our parents when we did something bad unintentionally. When dogs do that it can be funny though. Because tchances are that the person/people who vandalize public statues, sculptures and other public installations dont necessarily have a problem with them, they could be bored or have little else to do, vandalization just for the sake of it. I have seen it over the years here in my country where bus stop shelters get vandalized . . . for no apparent reason other than brainlessness. Some people just like destructing and destroying things in the public space.
Those are 2 separate groups of people. Ones that vandalize whatever and for no particular reasons, and others who destroy it in a targeted way. We can't be sure which one is the case here, both options are possible unless there is evidence of one of them being true. If anyone was into "crypto" I cant see them having an issue with the statue, without Satoshi Crypto may not exist in its current form. So everyone in crypto should be respecting Satoshi.
What should be usually has no relevance to what really is in the real world.

Lets be honest. How many people have you met in real life (excluding meetings/conferences) where people are aware of bitcoin ? How many of them are really enthusiast? Personally I have always seen more people negative on the argument. I would not just be focused on this event because we will always find some fools that "hate bitcoin". No surprises at all. It's human nature. Anyway vandalism is always a brutal gesture. Arrogant and useless, moreover if toward a certain symbol.

Last year August a supposed drunk who was celebrating the national Swiss day (August 1) used tools, maybe a mini Angle Grinder, to cut the statue into pieces and threw the remnant into the Lugano lake, remember it was later fixed by the municipal workers who transformed the statue in a kintsugi Inspired style and reinstalled the Statue, which looked much better. Today, April 19th, a fresh incident happened on same location by an unknown culprit, who vandalized the statue again, this is not upto one year since the last incident, the official page responsible for building this statue ( satoshigallery) posted the information today, the community thought of it as an incident that's quite bad to the statue but doesn't harm the progression of bitcoin, with the emphasis that ' you can break the steal, but not it's meaning'. At the moment, there are no information from the police about who did this, but it's quite unclear why people or a person would attack a peaceful decentralized statue of a great man. Failure of the government to have a sniper guarding it. The vandal could have been shot right as he was doing it. problem solved. instead of getting it fixed again so another vandal attacked it.

Is Lugano an especially high crime location? Has the Satoshi statue in Budapest ever been vandalized?

Funny but truth cause those people or person vandalising it won't learn if drastic measures to protect such beautiful piece of art is not taken, if one person is sniped others would learn and keep off. Even if they place fines for vandalism on it, someone stupid would still be willing to vandalized it and pay the fine, so your opinion seems like the best option. Unfortunately the government doesn't give a fuck else they should be protecting it so it's left for Bitcoin enthusiasts in that region to do the needful. Well no matter how they keep vandalising it over and over it doesn't make Bitcoin less of itself, it would continue to reign as the most trustworthy digital currency.

Can't the municipality just put cameras in that area? Is it really that expensive to put cameras? I have the feeling that the guy, who vandalized the statue probably doesn't know the meaning of that statue or even who Satoshi Nakamoto actually is. If the vandal was a frustrated Bitcoin enthusiast, who got scammed or did a big financial mistake, then vandalizing the statue won't help him in any way. I've seen a lot of people, who want to blame someone else for their failures and mistakes. This does nothing and we can't move on, if we don't forgive ourselves and fin peace. Bitcoin is doing just fine and someone trying to destroy the statue just because the BTC price crashed isn't a valid option.

Let them, this is why Satoshi was anon, he was not interested in being known, and that means that we do not have someone to idolize, there is no sacred person behind it all, there is no individual to carry it forward. He has not even been online for over ten years, we are not really interested in that at all.
We are taking bitcoin from where he left off and we are taking it further as well, so we are not interested in anyone who is trying to make some name for themselves by doing this.

They would need a really low activity in their brain to think this could do any damage to Bitcoin itself. The Satoshi statue is a work of art and it represents different things to different people, you shouldn't expect everybody to see it from your own perspective, if it brings you joy to look at the statue and see the genius of Satoshi, it is opposite of what some haters see. A Satoshi and Bitcoin hater can destroy the statue and blame it on mistake, afterall the statue cannot defend itself to say whether it felt that it's vandalism was a mistake or intentional. If the statue is destroyed over and over again it wouldn't reflect on the value of Bitcoin, who knows if Satoshi even likes a faceless statue of himself, so as much as I appreciate what the statue stands for I don't think that it is very important or adds any real value to Bitcoin and Satoshi. Satoshi Nakamoto is anonymous and for me the Bitcoin logo is enough representation for him, not like I have anything against the statue.

I think the people who damaged the statue may not even be related to bitcoin at all. They could simply be destructive individuals who happened to come across it. If a person is filled with negativity and a tendency toward destruction, then that’s what they bring into the world anger and vandalism. In a way, they are expressing their inner state. I don’t think this should be linked to the work of Satoshi Nakamoto. Everyone has their own view of the world, and dissatisfied people are more the norm than the exception, especially when it comes to topics related to money.

So no matter what the intention of the person whether hate, frustration, or they want to pass a message, there will be deterred.
That's true if rebuild back again there should be a very good fence that should be built on the status, if possible a strong electric fence should be used so that it will be a sign of warning coming to vandalize the status that he or she can get hurt. If a strong caution warning is not placed there for people to see this act of vandalism will become a norm and so steps should be taken to prevent this from happening instead of waiting for the status to get damaged before thinking about repairs. Again police should do a thorough investigation and the perpetrators of this act brought to book this will send a very strong message to anyone intending or having the intent of going to were the status is vandalizing it.

Maybe they are just people who derive joy from destroying and vandalising property without even having any solid reason as to why they do it, or it might have turned into something a group is purposely doing to give the labourers who are doing the work more job in recreating it. All we can do now is speculate exactly why they are doing it but no solid evidence to point to reason why someone will take it upon himself to be destroying the statue.

There are people like that and actually they don't care if the item they are destroying have historical symbol. If government can't protect those symbols represent something good in history maybe that unfortunate situation happened on the statue of Satoshi might going to happen again. We also cannot take out the facts that not everyone knows Satoshi and Bitcoin, so those people have tendency to destroy or vandalize that statue. Maybe better for officials or workers in area to educate people that the monument is important piece and people should not destroy or steal it.

Failure of the government to have a sniper guarding it.
The vandal could have been shot right as he was doing it.
problem solved. instead of getting it fixed again so another vandal attacked it.
People aren't killed in that part of the world just for being vandals - luckily we're still a long way from how it's done in the US. Vandals can be prevented from doing such things in a much simpler way, as I already wrote, the space should be put under video surveillance.

Vandals can be prevented from doing such things in a much simpler way, as I already wrote, the space should be put under video surveillance. For such a location, Cameras would only help in getting the culprit easily, but won't stop vanderlizers from carrying out their evil act. The statue is too accessible for everyone just like the concept of Bitcoin, when an art is made and kept in a place where passers-by are allowed to go through even at the late hours of nights, it'll be vulnerable to acts like this, while a Camera can scare some reasonable culprits away from destroying the Statue, some haters wouldn't mind executing their plans on masks, provided they could access the location. The team behind the Art has taken it home to rebuild the damaged Statue, the question remains whether they'll take it back to thesame exact location where it was Vandalized.
