Brainwallet query

I see many people are complaining about losing their coins from Brainwallet. I have never used it and just read about it here => https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Brainwallet. What I understand that this will give me a Bitcoin Address and Private Key to use. So using the address, I can accept my coins and see on blockchain. But how do I spend them without using any client ? I mean how the whole system of Brainwallet works ? I'm confused. Can anyone please shed some light ?

I think u r referring to blockchain.info. Yes, you may import the private key over there in your wallet. But blockhain.info messages with Tx are different than this. That is just an added feature by them where the messages are fetched from their own DB.

The typical use of a brain wallet is as cold storage, just like a paper wallet. Typically, when you want to spend the bitcoins in the brain wallet, you would import the private key into a normal wallet.

Regardless, a brain wallet has a high risk of being cracked, so I don't recommend using one.

How exactly is mainstream public supposed to feel excited about bitcoin when they get handed this kind of information from tech and dev nerds on how to secure their money?

Mainstream public is used to "here's my card/scan/receipt/done" and an online account they can keep up with their purchase and balance...and a password...and somebody else to make sure their stuff is secure.

Downloading stuff and all this encryption and python talk isn't going to help BTC win popularity points. That is over the head of most of mainstream.

So, pretend Edith Bunker or Rose Nylund, or Anna Nichole Smith or Jessica Simpson or Ann Coulter or Sarah Palin or Kim Kardashian or Honey Boo Boo wants to start buying bitcoin...

Please share how you'd explain bitcoin and how to use it with them because that's about the mentality level of the ones who will make or break btc becoming a long term "thing" in life.

But, the blockchain.info wallet address is also generated from a passphrase... is not it ? In that case it is machine generated and in this case it is human generated. So, if I right something meaningless (example below) and create a wallet from it ...will it really be insecure ?

Also, at brainwallet.org I see they are adding something called Secret Exponent. What is that ?

I can tell already, this isn't going to go well.

Messing around with raw transactions and trying to encode your own transactions when you don't have the initiative to figure some of these concepts out on your own is a great recipe for losing bitcoins.  Hopefully nobody else will give you control of their bitcoins, so the worst you can do is damage yourself.
