It's not a big amount, but I had no idea about this because I never needed to pay that fee before. This can be called "hidden charges," even though they will claim it is in the ToS. I felt the only charge was the usual $1 for every transaction and $3 for card transactions.

This is more like a hidden fees, if it was not they won't only insert it on their TOS but they would have made it very noticeable still on front page just the way they normally show the fees for every transaction you do. This money can be small for some people but it's actually a big amount compared to the usual fee that a customer is supposed to pay per transaction. Even some platforms that did a similar thing to me, I have left them. Bitcoin is the best.

Only for me to open the account today to see that they've taken $30 from the money I received. I checked and found out that they have a policy where an account that didn't receive up to $2k within 12 months would be charged $30.
It's not a big amount, but I had no idea about this because I never needed to pay that fee before. This can be called "hidden charges," even though they will claim it is in the ToS.
If only user agreements weren't written in clunky legalese, but in clear and simple language. If payments are specified in the user agreement, it doesn't stop being an hidden imposed payment. Smiley Look, if no payments are received into the account for 12 months, then Payoneer doesn't need to spend resources on maintaining it. They just want to force you to use your account (to receive payments) so they can earn their commission.

I felt the only charge was the usual $1 for every transaction and $3 for card transactions.
That's it. Either pay like this or pay $30 for 1 year.

This is something you won't need to bother about if it were in Bitcoin. With Bitcoin, just you and your client will do business without any third party knowing about it. Too sad, only a very few people are ready to make payments in Bitcoin.
This is precisely the "power" of bitcoin, called P2P, when the transaction involves only 2 parties and no intermediaries are needed. Who do you mean by 3rd party? The tax authority? Smiley By the way, some countries impose a Value Added Tax (a certain percentage "built into" the price of goods and services). So, when paying via bitcoin, your customers don't have to pay this imposed tax, which means you can lower the price of your product, making it more attractive to purchase and more competitive (due to its affordability).

It is not a hidden charge according to the op the only problem in this case is that the op did not go through their policy after opening an account with them if he had gone through their policy maybe he would have closed the account since he's not sure of using the account regularly to receive funds. This should be an eye opener to everyone who is not familiar with Bitcoin transaction if you have to use any other means to make transaction be sure you are ready to go through all the processes also know that there hidden changes that you will experience if not now but in the future and you can't do anything when you are charged as there will be reasons for all the hidden charges.

$30 is not a small amount to the op which is why banks can decide to charge small amounts to all their customers because the amounts are nothing to them they will not take actions but when you multiply the amount involved to the number of person making use of the bank you will realize that you are encouraging them to do more. Bitcoin remains the best, no hidden charges, no stress, no third party.

I don't use Payoneer to accept payments. Instinctively, I try to avoid centralized payment systems. 🙋

I've read numerous times on forums that Payoneer freezes users' funds. They have a so-called "inactivity fee" of $29.95 (a marketing gimmick that tricks your subconscious into thinking you're only losing $20, when in fact it's $30). You pay this fee if you haven't received $2,000 in your account within 12 months. However, $2,000 is quite a lot! You could be freelancing, then get sick, be out of work for a while, and then get fined!

By the way, they also charge a $29.95 fee for having a physical plastic card.

Accepting payments in Bitcoin or Monero (and then exchanging them for Bitcoin, for example, on the website https://mobit.exchange/) seems like a better option to me than using Payoneer. However, as you rightly pointed out, not all clients have yet realized that using Bitcoin for payments is much more cost-effective than using centralized services. Perhaps you should discuss this with the client and come to an appropriate agreement. 💁

Personally, I'm even willing to lower my prices if the client pays me in Bitcoin instead of fiat.

Before now, I used Payoneer to receive foreign payments. I stopped for a while when I found another means, but recently, I used it to receive some payments.
I got the email, but I didn't bother checking the account to see

I have never heard of such policy before from any other company. This one’s just pretty unjust, IMO. It might similar with banks where there should be  a sustaining balance but I don’t think it means they charge you. They should just close the account if this is what they’re gonna do.

If you are careful, of course you are going to end up with something much better on the long run, and there are many people who are making these mistakes, but the reality is that many people are also not caring about getting paid in bitcoin. People are a lot more inclined to accept even USDT, because at least they know what they are getting paid in.

Main reason why bitcoin is not accepted in places that are also spending fiat to get those same things they sell, is because of inflation and price volatility. Bitcoin price may go down, which means if you are not fast enough, you sold something for an amount but you now have less than what you paid for it as a shop. This is why many places stay away from it as much as possible.

Didn't you receive the email regarding their fee changes? If you had received and read the email, you could have avoided accepting payments using your Payoneer account.

However, these unreasonable fees are clearly detrimental to users, as they charge such high fees for low-activity users. This is why Bitcoin is a payment alternative for those archaic services - not only are transaction fees cheaper, but users are also exempt from service fees if they use Bitcoin. It's basically free for anyone to use.

I think that sending notices through email for a hidden fee like this isn't really showing a good intention. Some people don't skim over emails everyday and the chance of people missing the email is very high.

If they have good intention, they could give a chance for anyone to keep their money before seizing it with the premise of hidden fees.

You just can't give random notification through email and if the people didn't act upon it, you take their right of their own money.

That's not how a good company should do. This thing is obviously caused by greed, just feels very shady.

If they have good intention, they could give a chance for anyone to keep their money before seizing it with the premise of hidden fees.
 right of their own money.
Really shady! If they wanted to make it very clear with the charges, they have many ways to do that from their platform. Not everyone checks their mails all the time. I’ve also experienced something close to that with a particular bank. I requested for a loan but never saw consenting agreement to the terms and conditions from the banking app. Immediately  i tap on apply loan I was only credited. I only later realised that the term and conditions was sent to my email after I’ve been credited with the loan I requested. I don’t know why  they keep complicating things that shouldn’t be.

Additional charges for not using your account for a while? Well, I am not surprised. In traditional banks, once your account stays inactive for some time, withdrawals may be restricted on your account. Centralized platforms will always seize any opportunity given to them to either make money from you or exert control unnecessarily. If clients prefer to make payments in Bitcoin, it should be used instead to rule out the issue of hidden charges from centralized payment platforms and banks.

Not only that, some but banks are also charging a monthly penalty on account that are unable to maintain a minimum deposit.

Quote
At least with Bitcoin, there are no added fees for being inactive or restrictions for abandoning your wallet. Rather, you may even gain if you had some bitcoins in your wallet before leaving it for so long.

True, with Bitcoin, we are free of these charges implemented by centralized institutions. Aside from that, we have the total control over our holdings.

However, using Bitcoin is not an excuse to neglect checking the ToS of any platform you are using. A client may be interested in Bitcoin payments, but in the business ToS, there might be a clause worth knowing about.

Well that is if we intend to use a custodial wallet, and many of us do not suggest such thing.  We better use non-custodial wallet so that we have no ToS to be worried of.

Bitcoin has been repeated as digital gold for so many times, that people have forgotten how convenient it feels to receive cash from the Internet. Like, actual cash, with no banking intermediaries who charge .x% of the transaction, or who may block you from sending > Y amount to some person, or who may have problem with transacting with your bank.

I'm genuinely paying with bitcoin wherever I see it as a payment option, just for the sake of convenience.

You can send your bitcoins to anyone else, to any addresses but from your side, you have some advantage too like

Able to freeze an address
Able to freeze your UTXOs
They're part of full control of your bitcoin with private keys.

While nobody else can control your coins without your wallet private keys, so they can not freeze your Bitcoin UTXOs, your bitcoins in your non custodial wallets. They can not seize your bitcoins if they don't get private keys from you.

It's different than traditional banks.
It's different than many altcoin blockchains with centralization and governments can freeze your altcoins like stablecoins if they want.

This is something you won't need to bother about if it were in Bitcoin. With Bitcoin, just you and your client will do business without any third party knowing about it. Too sad, only a very few people are ready to make payments in Bitcoin.
Fiverr, Upwork, etc. are platforms where people buy and sell services. If they allowed their sellers and buyers to make payments in Bitcoin, then I do not think anyone would go for Payoneer or any other platforms. You just have to provide your wallet address, and you do not have to pay anything except the fee you are already aware of, because the fee is visible on the blockchain, and you can check it before withdrawing and there will be some service fee deduction from the platform.

Hidden charges hurt the most. I have paid them several times at my banks, especially with ATM cards. They often mislead us, only good banks share correct information. BTC would eliminate a lot of problems. Earlier, not everybody was aware of it, so in order for you to get payment in BTC, the buyer had to have BTC first. Because of that, they try to avoid the extra hassle, as they do not want to pay you, that is the reality. You have to go with the platform they prefer, because you know how these clients are, they will do anything to avoid payments.

This is actually a real use case for the bitcoin and other crypto aswell, back then in 2014 before I know about bitcoin I also registerd payoneer because they basically give you a free Mastercard debit without a single dollar and ship to any country, but I do believe this good to be true and today I just found from your thread that this could happen.

Not long ago I received a crypto debit card from Pexx all went smooth they send me the physical card and boom 2 weeks later all visa card physical and virtual has been revoked by the Visa itself and my card that comes 1 month after I registered now become a useless piece of plastic.

The main point is that if the big freelance platforms do not support crypto or bitcoin payments, then you will never get paid in crypto or bitcoin unless the employer personally offers it to you. In most cases, those who spend dollars on those platforms do not want to use crypto because it is not acceptable there. But, personally, I think that if those who provide work pay using bitcoin, they can send their money to the workers at a low cost. It is true, when the acceptance of bitcoin increases everywhere, then these platforms will also accept bitcoin. Then anyone can receive and send payments in bitcoin according to their convenience. Currently, various online payment platforms are imposing a lot of hidden charges which I think is a big burden for the users. While this wasn't a problem before Bitcoin was invented, it's really difficult now to accept such charges.

Before now, I used Payoneer to receive foreign payments. I stopped for a while when I found another means, but recently, I used it to receive some payments.
I got the email, but I didn't bother checking the account to see

Only for me to open the account today to see that they've taken $30 from the money I received. I checked and found out that they have a policy where an account that didn't receive up to $2k within 12 months would be charged $30.
It's not a big amount, but I had no idea about this because I never needed to pay that fee before. This can be called "hidden charges," even though they will claim it is in the ToS. I felt the only charge was the usual $1 for every transaction and $3 for card transactions.

This is something you won't need to bother about if it were in Bitcoin. With Bitcoin, just you and your client will do business without any third party knowing about it. Too sad, only a very few people are ready to make payments in Bitcoin.

Using Bitcoin to make your transactions remains the best, weather you want to receive or transfer fund. Bitcoin transaction is very cheap, and affordable. To me, using some other digital currency like Payoneer is just like making transaction from your bank account, the amount charged is very big , and it sometimes discourages people from using it. Bitcoin has given it's users many advantages, from affordable transaction fee to a store of value. As for me, I love receiving payment in bitcoin because I store them to appreciate in value. I don't sell every Bitcoin that is being sent to my account. I don't only like receiving payment in bitcoin because of cheap fees , but for fact that bitcoin adds value over time.

Bitcoin is king but I guess you didn't take out time to read the term of services of payoneer else you would have also discovered what you discovered after the $30 deduction but why still receive money through these channels when you now have bitcoin which is safer, and charges way lesser fees than these third party services?

I think these your post is more of an awareness for people to pay more attention to terms of service of any site they Intend using especially any site that has to do with money.

They are afraid of tax my friend. Some countries on tax returned are not clear about goods and service render with Bitcoin. There are places where the buyer have to pay tax from the payment they made, if that what's available, I think it's fine since the seller doesn't have to worry but when the seller decide to hold for sometime, and get profit, that Bitcoin is taxable by capital gains. So with this complications of tax system, it discouraged sellers.

Second challenge is the legal entity, Bitcoin isn't recognized as legal tender in many place. It's not illegal in most places but it will help protect business if there is a legal stand for Bitcoin so that business owners doesn't have to worry about what to do. It's because this things are undefined that's why businesses are using Bitcoin else who doesn't like Bitcoin. I bet people will be eager to make payment and receive when there is bull run. There is much to gain when the market is good you know.

Very bad on pioneer team, but yes more people should be moving towards adapting BTC as a payment method, with so many good exchanges now there too, I dont think so its much of a problem now to convert BTC into FIAT.

Moving to accepting bitcoin might not be the problem or where to sell it, but regulatory concern should also be part of it, and to make things even easier, even for a seller or buyer whose business needs the money to survive, especially for small-scale businesses, there is also the option of payment processors who can help them with that, but anything that has to do with a centralized service and a third party having control is not risk-free.
