Sad news, at least nobody got or was hurt during the incident. Toy gun is ok, but in panic people often end up doing something stupid hurting others or themselves.

If this person cannot control their gambling habits, they need to seek professional help, I think the wife should take up the decision and make sure they get the treatment they need.

Most of the time people who end up doing things like this are decent men who have good reputation at home but because they dont want to compromise their reputation at home they think compromising their value outside would solve the problem. Well the only problem here is irresponsible gambling habits, if he had taken the precautionary measures to ensurenhe doesn't get addicted or make irresponsible choices he wouldn't have robbed the shop in the first place. True because when addiction has passed a level and resolved to this point then such person has lose control that's why for it to reach this kind of stage early support and help is very important before things fall out of place. And yes there are addiction resources to help this kind of people, there are support groups, counseling and there are also hotline that can  guide someone that really have the intention so stop before it becomes worse. The most important thing is that they should seek for help early and again family and friends shouldn't just be quiet if they notice the signs because every little help can stop alot of damage

When you are put in a situation where you have to make both ends meet, pressure can be your biggest enemy. If you also add gambling addiction in the picture, then this can potentially spiral out of control, thereby pushing you to do certain acts that you thought wasn't possible. As much as I agree with your statement, I still feel bad for the guy even with the decisions he made. If you're really desperate for cash and you're also addicted to gambling, you tend to justify any of your acts as valid to the point that it can push you to commit a crime.

I just hope that more support would be given to all types of addiction in the country. Not only would this benefit addicts but also the community of the country as well.

This is definitely a case where gambling addiction has overshadowed rational thinking and perception and has influenced bad behavior in someone who should have known better because of the responsibility of marriage that has been trust upon the man in question.
The man already has the thought and eye of a criminal or a thief in this case, hence why he didn't hesitate to commit a crime to resolve his unquenched appetite for greed.

I have earned stories like this before. Example is someone that his father sent oversea to work and earn money. He came back to the country with $25000 after some years. He started working personally and making money until he started gambling. Gambling took all the money from him and he has nothing again in his shop. Another one happened which I have witnessed, the bettor spent all the money he had on him and still played on credit telling the attendant that he will pay up but when he realized that he has gambled off a huge amount that he can not afford to pay, he wanted to run away but got caught. I don't know how many wives would willingly report their husbands to authorities if they commit a crime. Most women would shield their husbands by covering up the crime. She is an exceptional woman who deserves an award. The man was scared of going home to meet his wife without money. My neighbor and I had been talking about how addicted Filipino people are to gambling, not just because of the ease of access but also because of the cheap way to gamble. I even told them about the fact that these popular names in online gambling had been advertising their business on shows where kids are allowed. PlayTime, for example. A very popular name advertised their business in the recent Karate Kid movie when my kids, 6 years and 8 years old before the movie started.

Just goes to show it is better to keep money in Bitcoin than in fiat (paper money).

Obviously this was the work of a desperate person who had no idea what he was doing but thought he needed to do it.

It is a good thing that the gun was fake, because if it was real someone could have gotten killed, whether on purpose or accident. Or simply and more obviously, in the heat of the moment. I think it should be taken note of as to not give the thief a harder sentence for that.

Obviously he should be punished, but it could have been much worse.
