Every technology invented is always focused on how to make life more easier and interesting than before.

We can't be in one place from year to year because changes will definitely occur to some of those things we think before that was so valuable because of the importance it is to us will be replaced for other things that could be multiple functional for us. Like I used to use the phone alarm but often missed it because of the silent mode or notifications. And now I use a separate alarm clock, that is more trustworthy.
