Hi everyone,
As a Professional Mobile App Developer, I see many newcomers making a critical mistake: saving their 12-word seed phrases in their phone's "Notes" app, "Google Drive," or taking a "Screenshot." From a technical perspective, this is extremely dangerous, and here’s why:
1. Clipboard Sniffing Malware
Many malicious apps (especially those not from official stores) use a technique called "Clipboard Sniffing." If you copy your seed phrase to paste it somewhere, these apps can instantly detect that string of text and send it to a hacker's server.
2. Cloud Vulnerability
If you store your phrase in a Note-taking app that syncs with your Cloud (like iCloud or Google Drive), your crypto security is no longer local. If your email is compromised, your entire wallet is gone instantly.
3. The Screenshot Trap
When you take a screenshot, many apps have permission to access your "Media Library." Some fake "Photo Editor" or "Wallpaper" apps are designed to scan your gallery for anything that looks like a QR code or a list of words.
4. Unencrypted Cache
Apps often save temporary data in a "Cache" folder. If your phone is lost or someone gains physical access, they can use forensic tools to extract that unencrypted data, even if you thought you deleted the file.
Developer's Advice:
The only safe way is the old-school way: Write it down on a piece of paper and hide it. Never let your seed phrase touch an internet-connected device's storage.
I'm happy to answer any technical questions regarding mobile security. Let's keep our crypto safe!
Best regards,

Hi everyone,
As a Professional Mobile App Developer
I doubt that as you are a bounty hunter, woke up and made this post to teach the others while previous in years your posts are only for bounty reports.

For many advice on wallet backups, wallet security and security in general, who are interested in can read with many topics on this matter in Security and Privacy Encylopedia.

Hi OctRadism, thank you for your feedback. I understand your skepticism since I've mostly been active in bounty reports recently. However, my professional background is in Mobile App Development (Android/Flutter), and I decided to start sharing more technical insights to contribute meaningfully to this community beyond just bounty tasks.
While there are existing encyclopedias on security, I wanted to explain these risks specifically from a developer's architectural point of view. I'm here to learn and share, and I'll definitely check out the resources you mentioned to improve my future posts. Cheers!

Is that the reason people are so lazy today that they are using AI to write content just like your topic that many part of it are written with the help of AI?

Hi Charles-Tim, I appreciate your concern about AI content on the forum. As a developer, I use various tools to structure my technical thoughts and ensure my English is professional, as it's not my first language. However, the insights shared regarding mobile architecture, API encryption, and device-level security come directly from my years of experience building apps with Kotlin and Flutter.
My goal is to add value to the community. I’m happy to dive deeper into any specific technical part of my post if anyone wants a more detailed explanation. Let's focus on the security aspects!

~snip~

In that case, don't use AI to write your posts. I analyzed your first post with two AI detectors and both show 100% generated content. AI is not an invention to make your work look more professional, because it's simply not you and it's wrong to present yourself that way.

Thanks Lucius for the correction. I admit that because my English is weak, I used tools to help me write. My technical ideas as a developer are real, but using AI for text was my mistake. I am sincerely sorry and I will write everything myself from now on

You don’t need all these as part , you already mentioned it at the beginning of the thread and it’s in bold format which we can all clearly see. You can create a service thread  if you need to mention all that you just posted in a single thread.

Why isn't anyone pointing out the fact that if you are running a hot wallet for example on your mobile device then your seed is most likely on that device because there's no way you can broadcast a transaction without keys to sign it plus we barely have people who access their wallets with keys only.

It doesn't really matter when it comes to security. Most things that will keep you safe aren't all technical most are the basics people are either uniformed or they make mistakes.

You’re right..
AFAIK, most software wallets are built to generally function as hot wallets. But that doesn’t change the fact that the seed or keys are always present on the device hosting the software where the wallet was generated, whether used as hot or cold, encrypted or unencrypted, unless deleted..

The involvement of internet is what generally gives interpretation of Hot and Cold wallet but is there really anything like cold wallet though? Instead it’s cold storage but “ cold wallet “ can be used  depending on the context.

For me, it is simply a shorter name for a cold storage wallet; from what I understand, a cold wallet is a cold storage where the wallet is kept.

@OP, you did not mention having their own offline wallet or a wallet in cold storage, which is way safer, far from the internet, and far superior to avoiding the vulnerabilities you mentioned above.
It's good to have a backup copy of the seed offline, but still if you are using your wallet online, you are still vulnerable to any attacks, so having cold storage or an offline wallet is a must while keeping your seed phrase secured.

Save it on different places like if its 12 seed, you have have the 6 in your phone then the rest on other places, and dont ever put in one place to avoid in any kind of compromised. Regardless if its phone thief/lost, online hack, physical thief/damage. Did it for 10 years and nothing yet happened related to hacks or lossing them.

The information provided by the OP is certainly useful for an investor, if a person writes down the seed phrase on paper, then he has secured his wallet, but if someone takes a picture of the seed phrase with a mobile phone, and if that mobile is disconnected from the internet, will there be a risk in his case? Suppose I take a picture with a device that is out of reach of the network, will it be safe for me. I know that the seed phrase should always be stored away from the network, but many times we suddenly need the seed phrase, if we write it down somewhere at home, what if I don't find it when I suddenly need it? If I keep it in Google Drive or any storage on the phone, I can retrieve it as soon as I need it. But if I write it down somewhere and hide it secretly, then I cannot find it immediately.

Is there any way that I can save the seed phrase in a file on my mobile like all my important files? Or is there any safe app where I can easily save my seed phrase?

With a mobile phone, there are many opportunities for connecting it to the Internet by your intention or by mistake. Your phone can be stolen by someone else, used by someone else, then you will lose your wallet and bitcoin.

You move from storing your wallet backup on mobile phone that is air gaped to a online storage via Google Drive. From (offline) air gaped backup to online backup, risk change from lower to higher and nobody has enough knowledge and experience with security will recommend online or cloud backup.

All are written and guided there, let's read

It's not a developer's nightmare it's actually the bitcoin holder's nightmare because he will likely end up losing his coins. I’ve seen cases like this over the years. People start a thread saying their coins have gone missing without explaining why. After questions from other forum users, they eventually admit that they uploaded a photo of the seeds to Google Drive or jotted them down in Notepad. I don’t remember exactly if we had cases on this forum, but I recall several high-cases like this on another forum, some involving quite large sums.

In this context, developer implies about himself, the OP, not developers of wallet softwares or developers in general. Like OP wants to give people security advice based on his knowledge and experience as a developer, it isn't like any technical issues with wallet softwares that need works from developers to fix them.

Even Satoshi Nakamoto reminded people that they should never delete their wallets, there is another thing to be reminded as it is very important. If you have old and new/ current wallets, you must have notes on those wallets with short descriptions like Old / No-longer-used wallets, and current wallets. Classifying old/no-longer-used wallets and current wallets will avoid mistakes of losing coins by funding them to previous old wallets that were created and stored carelessly.

Sigh... why delete a wallet instead of moving it aside and keeping the old copy just in case?  You should never delete a wallet.

I see many newcomers making a critical mistake: saving their 12-word seed phrases in their phone's "Notes" app, "Google Drive," or taking a "Screenshot." From a technical perspective, this is extremely dangerous

There is a reason why the technical experts will always instruct that we make use of our bitcoin wallet on an air-gapped device, and also why we should ensure some security measures are being fully considered for our safety, such as using a non-custodial wallet that is open source, avoid malicious link or download, using a secured means to store our Private keys and seed phrase and lastly, we should not use any online cloud storage or password loggers to keep our sensitive wallet keys or seed phrase.

You can follow one of the best guides on this argument (cold wallet and paper wallet)
https://glacierprotocol.org/assets/glacier.pdf
It's not the easiest one but its a master in class on the argument and provide the perfect insight and details to avoid scam/issues with your private key.
But the real problem should be on the basics. Maybe it would be more useful avoid also "strange" wallets and so on Wink
Otherwise, just for piece of mind, storing btc is easy and costless... just to find the right approach.

They can avoid strange wallets but only try to use old wallet softwares which have many ages in this industry and are recommended by many wallet review sites or tech expert sites.

If I keep it in Google Drive or any storage on the phone, I can retrieve it as soon as I need it. But if I write it down somewhere and hide it secretly, then I cannot find it immediately.
Some people might have thoughts like yours. They think about efficiency when they want to access their wallet quickly. especially if they are constrained by different locations. But storing the Seed Phrase online is still risky. To minimize the risk, actually, you can still do that. However, you must separate your main wallet from the wallet you use for transactions. The risk of hacking and losing assets will still exist, but at least you should minimize it by the amount of assets you store in the wallet on your online device.
