Centralized services like bank have insurance, so customer actually don't care because they know that their money on the bank is insured, if the bank messed up, as long as their deposit does not exceed the limit, their funds will be returned.  Unlike in cryptocurrency when our wallet is breached, since it is self-custody, there is no one paying it back to us.

insurance doesn't cover all the money deposited. guaranteed compensation is usually capped at like $10,000-30,000 depending on country, bank etc.
i mean if you look at AUM of big banks, it's mathematically impossible for the insurance to cover all of it.
furthermore, if there's any real threat, insurance companies will position themselves accordingly by either raising service fees or pulling out of deals.

Many people in media take the Quantum Threat more seriously than it deserves, but in tech world it is understood and we have plan. Bitcoin currently uses ECDSA encryption, which is indeed vulnerable to Shor's algorithm, but it could take decades until we have a quantum computer with sufficient stable qubits to break private key in reality.

Honestly I do not think people on the media are actually doing too much or overthinking the issue about quantum computer and it’s possible attack on private keys. It’s definitely a serious matter of concern and I really appreciate what some developers are doing on the technical  board to see that the bitcoin is resistant to every possible attack from the quantum computers.
If the media is silent about it, the developers might just sit and assume everything is alright and that it’s just a myth and research on the quantum resistance will be left to just few persons. And trying to come up with a way to create a resistance to the quantum computer attacker is a good move so that you prepare for the worst, and they will have to prepare for it I know that a lot of people are worried about exactly what can happen, because if it can lunch attack then it should be something,  of concern I don't think it's only the technical people that are concerned a lot of people are, especially the holders, because no body will want anything to do there money, and I don't even blame them for it, because I don't want a situation that the computer lunch attack on your assets.

And if they are creating a resistance then they should donit fast because it won't be nice at all,  if there is no solution provided on time then there is going be trouble.

If the future attempt is 512x bigger than the first  which is 15-bit out of 256-bit then it will take longer to crack bitcoin. It's undoubtedly a big milestone and worth rewarding 1btc. My few concerns though is quantum computing plus AI won't it be a big game changer.

With more and consistent attacks there might be a possible success in the nearest future. 15-bit might look small but we might not know how close we are to closing the gap.

Problem wasn't about the time it takes to solve stronger encryption because Shor's algorithm exist but the fact that producing higher amount of logical qubits is difficult.

It's like having more moving parts and mind you every logical qubits consisted of thousands physical qubits and all for quantum error correction although some experiment able to use fewer physical qubits, it's still a difficult to achieve high enough qubits to actually break encryption.

Yes, there was a quantum computer involved, but no, it didn't perform any calculation useful for finding that private key. The problem could have been solved in the same way without a Quantum Computer.

It seems that they are just trying to mislead people towards those actions they have done, but yeah they really use a quantum computer. But what those people do did not actually solve anything which related to private keys and stuffs.

I think they can achieve same result even if they didn't use a quantum computer. The risk brought up by quantum tech is real in future, but I think that case or experiment they made is just a hype than seeing a breakthrough.

The article I read is quite interesting because of its title China Claims First Dual-Core Neutral Atom Quantum Computer. I think about a quantum computer that has a large number of qubits and is capable of breaking crypto encryption. The Chinese company developing this is called CAS Cold Atom Technology. They launched Hanyuan-2, a 200-qubit neutral atom quantum computer with the world’s first dual-core quantum computer system. I do not know the exact details yet, but this article states that this computer is created from two different isotopes of rubidium atoms — 100 rubidium-85 atoms and 100 rubidium-87 atoms. It is still quite far from 8,000-10,000 qubits capable of breaking Bitcoin encryption technology.
