I was thinking about this because maybe every gambler reacts differently.

For some, losing $100 in one game hurts more because it happens too fast. One bet, one mistake, and the money is gone. But at least after that, you are done already and you don’t waste more time trying to recover it.

But losing $100 over a few days feels different too. Maybe at some point you were actually up, maybe you had a chance to stop, but you kept playing until everything slowly disappeared. That kind of loss can be more annoying because you keep thinking, “I should have stopped earlier.”

So which one do you prefer, or which one can you accept easier?

I’d be more fine losing $100 over several days than losing it all in one go, because I can’t promise myself that if I lose one big bet, I won’t deposit again.

So in a way, those staggered losses do help me somehow, not because I’m winning, but because I’m at least able to minimize the damage. And honestly, I wouldn’t be betting that amount consistently because that would already be too big for my budget. I’d probably lose my love for gambling if I became too irresponsible and ended up chasing losses. Unless I actually had the kind of skill that could make me profitable, which is still far from happening based on the history of my bets, since overall I’m still at a net loss.

I think there are a couple of questions here. First, which one hurts you more financially, and second, which one is easier to forget/accept?
Well, obviously, losing $100 on a single bet hurts because you will have the tendency to lose another $100 the next day or so. And that is harder to accept than losing $100 over a few days.
I've been through this before, and I can say it is always harder for me to forget or accept the fact that I lost a huge amount of money in one single bet or even for that day.
While losing that same amount over the week is kind of considered a more controlled gambling gesture, so as a result, that would be easier to forget, and it's less hurtful financially and emotionally.
I can go on with such a slow pace in the next few weeks, but completely avoid losing the same amount the next day after losing $100 today.

Even though I personally believe that it would only matter if you are playing for profits and it would mean the same if you are playing only for fun or maybe to give your luck a go, but still, I think losing $100 in a single bet would trigger your feelings more, like you will immediately get frustrated and angry, or maybe even sad, and a mixture of these feelings will most likely put you under a lot of pressure, your mind won't stop thinking about it and ways for you to recover that money, and eventually, you are going to make another, higher, deposit so that you can make large bets again and recover your $100, or maybe get some on top of that as well.

But, we all know what mostly happens in such situation; yes, we lose even more, and we don't give up until we lose everything we currently have out of anger and frustration, and once we are done, that is when we realize what we have done, but there is no point because you can't get it back anymore. This is why we always say that gambling can be devastating if the gambler can't keep their emotions under control. You should know, and your mind should be ready to understand that the money you lose in gambling is gone, you might get lucky and win something after the loss, but if you don't, you should just leave instead of trying to fight the house to get your money back, you will only make things worse by doing that.

Losing period no matter how sucks. Noone wants to lose but we all know that most gamblers are going to lose. The question is, how to stop losing? We finally think we figured out how to not lose and the strategy we were using fails and again we are losing.

So IMO both ways suck. If I lose fast or slow I still lost.

It’s really not ideal to put your whole bankroll on just one game, otherwise that already violates the basic principle of bankroll management.

If $100 is your standard bet, then most likely your bankroll should be around $10,000. That’s actually a very conservative approach since it’s only 1% per bet. That means it would take 100 straight losses to wipe out everything if you stay fixed at $100 per bet. So it’s fine to bet big only if you actually have a big bankroll to support it. To me losing $100 a few days is not different from losing it at once, our way of approach determine how we see it. Or I could say that mindset also play a role.

When someone makes a profit after depositing $100, the gambler thinks that this profit is part of his deposited money. So when he loses after that, it is natural for him to feel worse. In all these situations, withdrawing part of the profit can be a good opportunity and decision. So if later he loses the entire deposit amount, even then the withdrawal money will remain from his profit, the amount of loss will be less. This will keep him mentally at ease to some extent.

For me losing the $100 in an instant is actually easier to accept. I tend to know what the results for my gambling earlier and easy to accept that faith of losing.  I dont know for others but thats likely on my personal point of view. Maybe some will choose the long road but for me thats the choice.

It depends on the type of gambler that you are, if you're gambling for money you might want to go all in and take the risk at once by gambling once or a few times, if you win you take it if you lose you regret and move on. If you're gambling for fun you will most likely spread that amount so that you will keep entertaining yourself for a longer time, if you lose atleast you have enjoyed yourself for a while. I gamble mainly for fun so I prefer to not to risk my bankroll all at once, I will play in day with small amounts, stop when I have to and continue another day. I enjoy gambling more with this strategy instead of staking all my weekly allocation for gambling on a single game, it'll be hurtful if I lose it all at once.

I don't really see how they are different from each other, some gamblers might feel bad when they lose such amount in one game and some would still react if they lose the same amount over a few days when they start calculating their losses. A loss is still a loss though people just see both cases differently. Personally I would react to both scenarios the same way because I don't see any difference between them.

Neither is painless as both are losses and that would be considered painful for gamblers given that this is a situation that is always considered a failure (although this is normal for gambling) but if faced with these 2 choices just to see which one hurts more of course losing outright would put more pressure.

Sure, in nominal terms it will feel the same as your example for $100 but in terms of mentality, losing outright with a large amount will be much more shocking than losing $1 but the duration is 100 days or longer than that.  The analogy is the same with some people who always think credit or installment payments are always better even though it will be a little more expensive than those who buy directly in cash but spend more money they have.

I find gambling both entertaining and motivating. Even if I have the ability to lose $100 at a time, I don't bet that much. I feel more comfortable gambling with smaller amounts of money because winning is uncertain. The larger the bankroll, the more exciting it is to bet and the more painful it is to lose.
If I set aside $100 for gambling for a week, if I bet that amount at once and lose, I will have to add more funds to bet for the entire week. Many gamblers don't have that financial ability or risk becoming addicted to excessive gambling. I prefer to gamble with the allocated $100 for a long period of time.

I think losing $100, no matter how long it takes, is about equally painful. It's just that each case carries different nuances and evokes slightly different emotions. Losing $100 immediately causes acute annoyance and irritation. When you lose $100 over the course of several days or even a week, it's like a slow bleed. You gradually lose your spirits, and instead of annoyance, you begin to feel bitterness and resentment. Resentment is a slightly strange feeling, but in my experience, it almost always comes.

Personally, I would accept the loss easier if the losing it were lost slowly. It's like distributed pain that you would feel less because you already processed the first one. It's the overload of feelings that is making losing it all at once hurt more.

There's a catch. You lose more slowly because you take more bets. Like being exposed to a higher house edge, even if mathematically it's a slow loss.

I don't prefer either... fast or slow loss, same result! It's gambling, many times I lost a lot more than $100 in minutes... slots can be pretty crazy, without luck, all it takes are a few super bonus buys on some high volatility slot, and that's it, money is gone. All in on some live card game, sports bet... been there done that too many times.

Personally, I accept both easily... it's just part of the game. If you are not prepared for both, you probably shouldn't gamble in the first place. And don't forget, wins (especially big ones) can mess you up just as much, if not more...

For me losing $100 in one game, be it with just one deposit or multiple deposit. It's because it is just if one sitting and you never had the chance to make a comeback. Usually maybe you I can lost $60. But then in the last $40, I would have the mindset that I can bounce back.

But if not, then it's going to be hard and it really hurts to the point that I think I'm done with gambling. However, in the next couple of days, after I have reset and forgot about it and move on, I will start to gamble again.

Spending 100 dollars on one item at once is more painful than buying the item via "buy now, pay later" services.
I can assume that the gambling addicts have become numb to the pain of losing big amounts of money at once, but I'm not a gambling addict, so what do I know. Also, rich gamblers won't have a problem losing 100 dollars or more every day, since they can afford to lose such amount.

Losing money in a single $100 game, I've experienced it many times, but honestly, it depends on one's financial capabilities.
I played slots for almost an hour and it cost me $100 in one session, it's not a problem because that's what my budget is for, the only thing that pisses me off is that one spin cost me $50 and that's more of a pain than what you're talking about.
