So many numbers and so little time

I see my Bitax Gamma 601 as a low-cost ticket that supports the network + that gives me Opportunity to learn ... While the math says the odds are astronomica  Wink

I am mostly focused on underclocking and efficiency to that be sure the hardware lasts as long....I believe that For those of us in the TH/s range, it’s less about the ping and more about the uptime.

Actually it just boils down to number of shares submitted in a given time. The clock on that resets every time a block is found. Which is why high hash rate is important.

But, if you're just playing the long odds game, which is what solo is. Plug it in and forget about it is probably the best policy.

One thing I'm sure of with all Bitaxes if you want reliability is replace the thermal paste immediately; the stock stuff they ship with typically is totally useless.

I use Arctic MX-4, Noctua NT-H1 and on my OctAxe I'm using Arctic MX-7

The MX-7 has proven to be the best of the lot so far in terms of thermal performance, for longevity ask me again in a couple of years!

Have you tried saving money with GD007 and GD2?
It'll be much cheaper even if you change the thermal paste twice as often.
GD2 thermal paste is almost as good as MX-4 in tests, and it's inexpensive. GD2 thermal paste performs slightly worse than MX-7 in tests, but it's still worth using in other devices that don't require high-conductivity thermal paste.

To be honest, no I've not and given the results I've seen with MX-7 there's not much going to persuade me to switch from it. Also, the last 8g tube of the stuff I bought will last me a long time.

IMHO, Its worth the extra money to be certain you've got a product that's going to work.

These Asian branded thermal pastes are probably fine, but I just dont trust the quality control at least with Arctic they have a brand name to defend in a hostile PC market place, so they'll do what they can to be the best.
I've been using GD thermal paste for over 10 years now and see no difference between it and Arctic MX-4. Arctic MX-7 claims a lifespan of up to 8 years, but I usually do a full cleaning and remove the heatsinks one to three years after the warranty expires, and then do the same every 12-18 months on such devices.
So I don't want to pay more for something I don't use.

If it works and you're happy with the results stick with it. I'm really impressed with MX-7. It'll be my go-to for any cooling solution from now until something better comes along.

For a single unit like the Gamma 601, I’m with the buy once, cry once crowd.

Uptime is king. I’d rather have a rock-solid 500 GH/s running for 2 years straight than a 1.4 TH/s unit that crashes every week because it’s pushing the thermal limits.

If you use the legendary KPT-8 thermal paste, you'll have problems.
GD2 thermal paste will give you excellent results. You might want to try it to avoid paying more. Sometimes people buy a car that costs $10,000 and put in it the same expensive oil that is used in cars that cost $500,000.

Well i stand with you on this . KPT-8 is ancient history now, especially with how hot modern chips get.

The GD2 offers special undeatable value. Putting a $20 premium paste on a standard setup is total overkill, it's just burning money. GD2 does the job perfectly for less bucks .

Thanks for the tip!

KPT-8 thermal paste is still commonly used in industry and sells for $33 per kilogram.  Grin And for your 20 dollars you can buy a small syringe Arctic MX-7 for 4-8 grams.
