If your government care with their citizen, they will developing more infrastructure and other things to grow. They will pay attention to the critics from their citizen because they want to change to be better.

But seems many governments have corruption that can't separate in the government officials so that will difficult for clean government to works their best. That happens in many countries which they have many corrupt governments which is difficult to resolve.

Citizen can't do more as the government will shut up citizen with many things and that is easy for the government. Government responsible for bad economy. Citizen need an honest government officials to running their works and grow the country.

As a Nigerian am aware that annually the senate approves the national budget for the year. This budget drives development for infrastructure, Education, Health and Defence. The federal government also allocate funds to the state government monthly through the federation account allocation committee (FAAC).To cap it all there has been an appreciation in naira. But the price of commodities in the market are still high with traders holding onto the old prices,while in the transportation sector touts and security personnel are imposing taxes on the driver giving hike to transport fare and in the education sector,The University precisely which manipulate expenses like tuition and health services  which are free into the fees paid by students.There is also a case of landlords who increase their rent annually.
I know the Government administration has been corrupt for more than a decade now but we the citizens unconsciously support this corruption.

Who wields the power and controls the economy should be blamed, others can only be secondary contributors, which the government can still tackle if they want to. Is it the fare being collected by the transport unions, which is approved by the government would cause a major issue in the economy? The major issues are due to the carelessness, selfishness and corruption of the government. Wrong policies here and there. A consuming nation was forced to match its official exchange rate with that of the black market, fuel subsidy was removed without a cojent plan, all government official, including the president are busy steal the money, even as the government continues to pardon known thieves. Insecurity everywhere, to the point that it affects agricultural production. What do you expect to work?

How good or bad that the economy of a country is, wholly depends on the government's fiscal policies, interest rate, job creation, employment and unemployment rate in that country and rate of manufacturing or  production of that particular country. If the government is doing what is needed of them that particular country will definitely have a healthy economy, minus inflation that is transitory.

The government are just representatives of the people, helping to steer the way and ensure a good framework is in place for the country to prosper. If they make the wrong policies or are more interested in greedy self interests then it is possible that they could undermine the local citizens - they might get manipulated by mega corporations or foreign states into actions that do not help the average person. They also need to protect and build on the institutions that make a country great, like an independent judiciary, a central bank that sets it's own policies for the benefit of the currency, even down to how vital transport infrastructure is maintained. It takes a long time to build a functional structure to a country but it can be dismantled rather quickly if all politicians stop working for the benefit of the country.

I wish that politicians were only representative of the "people". At this point they are more representing themselves and the companies they are bribed by and nothing more. This is not just true for one nation, wherever you look at, it is the same.

Sure every government does something to say that they did something, but in reality we are not seeing them do anything at all, we are seeing them do different results. And for that reason we should not be expecting anything to get better for now.

You are whole talking about your own country in this topic, but the topic title is asking something else, haha. No problem, I will discuss with you on this matter about the whole international governments' matters, as we all know that if we have to extract something out as a "common thing" in all countries, then there is surely that we will find a common thing in all of them, which is that they all belong to corrupt governments and all of the iternational government system is eating the sytem and damaging the whole country ecosystem.

So, yes, it is so true that the very first reason of deult, dead economy reasons, is more attributable to government policies and how they manage to run the country. And after that, it then depends on us how we are playing our role as citizens of this country. Are we loyal to it? Are we paying taxes as we should on a fair and regular basis? And if not, then it is so true that we are also a reason for the dead economy of our own country.

We are like a drop of sea what and every drop of that sea has to stay loyal for the best economy of the country, and this is also true; it is not possible for everyone to have the same faith. Because in every system, both kinds of people will always be available, which are evil and good. Long story short, if the government is playing its best role, then after that it's our duty to show our loyalness with our own country for its best future. Well, this is my point of view. Your point is valid and its the responsibility of government to serve the people according to right system. And innocent people elected the leaders with the mind that they can protect their interests and make fair policies but if leaders going to against there thoughts and choose personal benefits then its hurts the Citizens more. Because a wrong decisions can affects the growth of whole nation. And if the leadership of a country is strong and honest then good transport and other benefit initiatives supports the good trade and daily life. yes that is true but it is not that easy to manage the fiscal and make the right policy from the many things that need to be considered regarding the economy in society, we are in designing a policy, which the whole instrument of government must be one voice and one vision to get a massive movement for economic growth, but if there are many different interests from the government factions, and also a lot of foreign slaves who influence policies for the benefit of this country it will be very difficult to make a country achieve success in its economy.

Do citizens really have a choice? Mostly they don't, one could say that they can raise their voice against the system and the government, and ask for a regime change, but that doesn't work everywhere, especially if the government has everything under control, and they can do anything to suppress the voices of people who are trying to stand against them, and this happens in a lot of countries, which is the reason why people don't speak up against the government because they don't want any sort of trouble in their lives and they know them speaking about these things won't make a difference but they can surely get in trouble.

However, if it's a country where freedom of speech is actually a thing, and the people know that even if they speak against the government, there won't be any threat for that and they won't get in trouble, then people should definitely raise their voice if they know that their government is corrupt and that is the reason why their economy keeps getting worse over time instead of improving. If governments spend all the money they get from taxes and everything on the country and the people, the economy will surely get better.

Yes. The state is responsible for poor economic performance. When a country is led by a leader who is untrustworthy and not pro community the economy will not improve and vice versa. This can be seen in developed countries with lower corruption rates.

Corruption is one of the factors that contributes to a poor economy because it prevents state funds from being used for the benefit of the people, but rather is embezzled by officials ultimately slowing development, such as infrastructure, education, hospitals and so on. Furthermore this will discourage investors from investing in the country due to the risk of their projects failing due to legal uncertainty and corruption.

The impact of all of this of course slows economic growth, increases poverty, reduces job opportunities, worsens public services and leads to a loss of public trust. It can even trigger social conflict or political instability further worsening the economy. Even countries experiencing internal conflict or civil war are plagued by excessive corruption which directly impacts the economy. Corruption is like a major leak in the development pipeline. The larger the leak the more difficult it is for a country to experience growth and development.

Only people who believe in blind politics are in denial if the government is such bad in their governance. So, yes, it is the government which is solely responsible for the economy of a country. If there are no investors, it means that there's no potential or the investors can't accept that the peace and order isn't prioritized by the government. it’s behaviors of the citizens that lead to bad government or incompetent government sometimes. You can't expect someone who has borrowed huge amounts of money before being elected and expects a good performance with the person, most especially here in Nigeria. People do not bother about the records of aspirants, either being good or bad. As a result of bad government, we're having insecurities in our country because there's no way we can have insurgency in our country if we have good government because,we have so many things to tackle insecurities, all what people are after is money and no any investors will like to invest his or her business in a environment that's not safe. Life is short and we have to struggle hard to enjoy it as much as we can. There is no benefit in cursing the government for our band finances but to work extra to earn more. Inflation is on the rise and will remain on the rise, its up to us to take necessary steps that can help us in beating the inflation and main thing is to increase our earnings. I completely agree with you. Basically, the government is paid to serve its people, and those deemed worthy will hold positions according to their abilities. They should work to improve everything in a country, and they should be able to address all of the country's problems. Essentially, the government is responsible for the poor economy, as that is their job. In my country, collecting taxes from civilians is part of the money used to pay them. So, I believe they are fully responsible for managing the country finances.

Regarding investment in a country, it is also the government responsibility to attract investors to invest in the country, and utilize those funds to advance the economy. Some local problems (such as thuggery) that can hinder entrepreneurs from starting businesses are also issues the government must address. In essence, a country will struggle to increase state revenue if there are no investors, or entrepreneurs willing to do business, and the country economy will worsen if its citizens cannot find jobs. Therefore, the government should be responsible for any problems that could disrupt the country financial circulation.

Corruption was a real challenge a few years back but now things are slowly changing and corruption comes with punishment which is unavoidable. Even now, many officials would be corrupt but there will be a few who would be honest and would stick to the policies. These honest officials make the citizens believe in the government again. I have also seen a lot of advancements when it comes to infrastructure in my country which I think is the outcome of those honest officials. Not just the infrastructure, but even the employment rate is now stable here which stabilizes the economy as well.

Citizens can only raise their voice while nearing the voting season. As soon as the season comes to an end, government will again stop listening to their citizens and do what they feel right. Sometimes, these decisions are meant to be for the citizen's benefits but most of the times, citizens might be a victim of bad decisions made by the government.

Good governance is serving its people and making sure that everything is transparent and accountable, the people are willing to pay their taxes, they really have no choice, in the hope of a better economy. If the government misuses tax revenue and engages in corruption, the economy will suffer.

When it comes to bad governance, you need to blame the people from the top down because the people at the top are responsible for everything related to governance and the economy. If the value of fiat is appreciating and the government is doing nothing to regulate the prices of commodities, services, and rent, then there is nothing the people involved in these areas can do about it. I believe the duty of the government is to control the prices of everything because businesspeople won't do it themselves. A government that cares about its people will always look into their problems, no matter how difficult they may seem. I agree that a country's economic situation depend on its government. But I do not think they can completely control everything.

The global economy is a tightly interconnected chain, and each country is a link in that chain. And when one link weakens or breaks, the entire chain is affected.

Just like the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is pushing oil prices above $100 a barrel. If this situation persists and lead to inflation, crises...so the government can not be blamed for everything.

It is very clear that the government is significantly responsible and they have a major role in causing the bad economy, they have fiscal policy and they are trusted to manage the budget effectively, but if the opposite happens of course they are responsible for that.

However, we also need to understand that natural disasters, war can also create bad economic conditions, so whatever happens to the economy the government is the main culprit.

A lot of persons are experiencing these things on ground actually so even if there is some appreciation in the naira or government allocations are happening which most times it doest reach the common man, it still doesnt always translate to lower prices or better living conditions. Especially in Nigeria, I know traders holding old prices and transportation costs going up that will not change, even if the Naira appreciates these traders will not reduce price at all and like you said, it is not only about the government, citizens play a role in how things continue, like when systems are bypassed, when people accept or adapt to these practices without questioning them, it keeps repeating itself, so while governance is a big factor, accountability and awareness from the people also matter if anything is going to change in the country.
