Yes, of course the government is responsible for its country's economy because this is what will make the people, including yourself, prosperous. But when the government is corrupt, they don't care about you, they only want the welfare of themselves, their families, and their groups. The country where you live is not much different from my country, too many corrupt politicians who do not serve their citizens well. In the end, we cannot rely entirely on the government, in any country there are always politicians like that, we are required to fight and stand on our own.

Some time due to globally disturbance highly affect the economy of developing countries. Like in these days because of shortage of oil regulate the prices or become the reason of sudden inflation. In this situation it become really difficult for the government to handle the situation. But mostly Government really responible for the bad economic condition.
 Government is the one who have the access towards everything or on every resources. So it's planning greatly affect the country's economy. If economy is not working well then it's mean government policies are weak.. Mostly in developing countries policy makers are only focus on their own interest or on their own welfare. Usually they are people who nominated or appointed through nepotism or through bribery. So they are not in actually trained ,they are lack in technical knowledge and experience. They are not fully aware or sense to run govt smoothly. In developing countries, there is not fair system that work fully on merit. And the result of the bad and poor economy has to face the public.

I don't know what the situation is like in your country, but if you mention corruption, this practice has become the blood that continues to flow in the government's body, this phenomenon does not only occur in your country, in my country the situation is almost the same. It should be emphasized that corruption is not only carried out by high-ranking officials who steal large amounts of money, but also occurs at lower levels, such as extortion carried out by thugs and security officers in the transportation sector. Manipulation of costs by educational institutions, such as changing what should be free to paid, will be very detrimental to the wider community, the occurrence of things like this is due to weak supervision from the government and accountability at the institutional level.

I also agree that citizens never realize that they have also supported acts of corruption such as giving bribes of a certain amount to security officers to avoid tickets and paying money under the table to speed up services.When this kind of behavior is carried out en masse, citizens also become part of the ecosystem that perpetuates corruption.

How good or bad that the economy of a country is, wholly depends on the government's fiscal policies, interest rate, job creation, employment and unemployment rate in that country and rate of manufacturing or  production of that particular country. If the government is doing what is needed of them that particular country will definitely have a healthy economy, minus inflation that is transitory.

Although it's not completely dependent on government but the truth is that the government does have a major role to play, or should I say the most role to play, That is why I can agree that if the government failed in its own responsible, it will seriously affect the country and its economy, thereby hindering growth and development in the most possible way. But we need to also understand also that the citizens also have another vital role to play and the same thing might also happen if they also fail to perform their own responsibilities too.

Your point is valid and its the responsibility of government to serve the people according to right system. And innocent people elected the leaders with the mind that they can protect their interests and make fair policies but if leaders going to against there thoughts and choose personal benefits then its hurts the Citizens more. Because a wrong decisions can affects the growth of whole nation. And if the leadership of a country is strong and honest then good transport and other benefit initiatives supports the good trade and daily life. But this type of leadership build through years of planning and efforts but its quickly weakend when leaders prefer person benefits and for a stable country honest leadership is more necessary then resources.

The actual point is that politicians portray such kind of good acts in front of people so that they can easily win people's trust before elections and their people vote for them to win the eleaction at a fair numbers. And the same example of this is the US in the recent election, where Trump got elected as the president, where he firstky wins its supportes trust and then he stepped back from most of his own statements, and this thing became the reason why many of his supporters now start to hate him and regret why they voted for Trump to become the US president.

After the day when Trump got elected as president, no doubt he benefited the crypto market most, but it is also not wrong to say that he manipulated the market in a different way so that he could make himself more rich and stronger. So, every country has such kind of corrupt politicians, and this is a very common thing of these days that corruption is very easy for politicians to make themselves rich.

What can you do to tolerate corruption? If you protest, terrorists will attack you or the local police will arrest you and file false cases against you. The youth tried to protest against the government several times but the law enforcement agencies were in a strong position against them. In addition, the terrorist groups working for the government will put psychological pressure on you.

As a citizen of Nigeria, we can criticize the actions taken by our government but we cannot protest. If you go to protest, you will have to face death threats or torture. Our standard of living is gradually decreasing due to inflation but the actions taken by the government are increasing the price of every product. The government is borrowing from banks to meet its financial needs, printing fiat and imposing additional tax burden on the citizens. Above all, corruption has become rampant among the leaders and those responsible in the administration.

From OP explanation, i am imagining condition which report show growth and economic improvement but it is not felt by the community, especially the lower middle class. I ever has export business relationship with Nigerian, I sold mosquito repellent lotion, glycerine and stearic acid. From my buyer explanation about his country, I conclude Nigeria caught on oil / resources curse mostly because government failed manage economic and institutional system consistently. Rich oil country not followed by good economic condition automatically, high inflation, poverty and wide inequality. their relies oncrude oil export make other sectir not developed optimally.

Same as my country,corruption become normal practice and an open secret, no good governance with leakages at all level which caused society do not benefited. Citizens have no role to play unless the government did the right thing because if the comment did not do the right thing how can the Citizens know which way to go. The government have a bigger role to play when it comes to economy, it is their responsibility to make sure the economy of the Nation stabilize so that the Citizens can enjoy their activities, and when all these are done that is when the citizen have a bigger rot to play too. It's every country's problem but not to the most advance countries that they had so much corruption.
Although there's still from little to middle type of corruption for the progressive once.

I totally think that the government is responsible for the bad economy in the country,  because firstly the government itself is a corrupt institution, so everything circles around the government. Firstly most of the money allocated to the government are not put to the right use, but rather they keep most of the money for themselves.
Talking about the citizens also contributing to it, I think it's the government duty to put a stop to it. The government can not put this things a stop, because they are also corrupt and their is no way a corrupt government will change a corrupt system.  The citizens are wrong by increasing things unnecessary when the price of naira has appreciated,  but the government are not interested in it, because they are busy looting their money and don't care about the citizens and are not ready to do anything to improve the lives of the citizens.

As a Nigerian am aware that annually the senate approves the national budget for the year. This budget drives development for infrastructure, Education, Health and Defence. The federal government also allocate funds to the state government monthly through the federation account allocation committee (FAAC).To cap it all there has been an appreciation in naira. But the price of commodities in the market are still high with traders holding onto the old prices,while in the transportation sector touts and security personnel are imposing taxes on the driver giving hike to transport fare and in the education sector,The University precisely which manipulate expenses like tuition and health services  which are free into the fees paid by students.There is also a case of landlords who increase their rent annually.

You touched on different parts of the economy without giving much elaboration to all of them, if you talk about budgeting, budgeting has to do with what the population is and what the government is allocating to the population in terms of social support and the rest. If you check critically Nigeria specifically have not done census in the last 18 years, so the accurate number of persons to budget for is not even known. If there is hike in goods and services it means something is the cause of it, the government Will have to check the root cause of it, so that people don't take unnecessary advantage of the situation.

You're right. Government can positively influence development in a country so do citizens. Saudi Arabia and Dubai are good example of a working government. Because their governments are visionaries. while people saw desert lands, Saudi and Dubai government saw development.. today lands that were deserts,hot and dry is now one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It bcame possible because their governments worked hard for it to become a reality.  Development in a country dependents on the government of that country. If the governments is corrupt,the country itself would rot because no country can develope under a corrupt government.

Yes, I agree with the idea that citizens themselves support this policy and the measures taken by the authorities. The majority of people are intimidated and afraid to protest to make their demands. This is life-threatening, as the repressive machine is operating at full capacity and will not choose its methods of reprisal against those who are undesirable or protesting. I've seen this in my country several times, and it always ends very badly.

There have been numerous steps taken forward to stop this corruption which would indeed help grow the economy. I think the bad economy is totally an outcome of the bad government. There have been so many initiatives taken to reduce the prices of day-to-day goods along with transportation and education but how far have we achieved that goal? Governments would ease the rates just for a bit until the next elections are completed. As soon as the election goes through, we come back to square one. No matter how hard every citizen tries, the government will ruin it at the end.

Like in the case of transportation, if security personnels don't impose tax touts will it difficult probably. Talking about higher institutions,there are government regulation agencies that doesn't care what schools are doing, all they do is to scavenge these schools with there corrupt motives and that's all. As much as possible, common people carry on with such vibes by overly increasing the amount of whatever they offer to the society erratically or something similar. In a case like this, the government is the majority and the majority carries the vote!

The hardship in which we the citizens faces is from our bad leaders.. Especially in Nigeria, they are no good rules or policies enforced that's why these traders, transport workers, and even schools to act anyhow. Alot of these agencies we have in this country don't perform their job well. Some of the reasons why traders increases their price of goods is due to Transportation e.g Bad roads, settling off corrupt police on the road and also fuel prices hikes everytime.  If there was to be a kind of strict monitoring(proper regulations of pricey across the country) and real punishment, many of these excesses would reduce. Lastly we the citizens also have a role to play in this, we shouldn't allow greed to take over us and also abide by all rule given by the governments.

There is no doubt that the government is the one responsible for the future of a country.  They hold the leadership, they have the authority and they have the fund.  The government officials are paid by the citizen to lead them to prosperity, peace and secured future.

The government have the power to utilize resources and allocate it to improve the economy of the country.  So when these leaders are not delivering, it is the country and its citizen that suffer.  So if we see a poor country, it is the government that is lacking. And sadly there are lots of naturally rich country but have poor economy due to greedy and corrupt officials only thinking their personal gains and disregard the reason why they are actually sitting on that high government position.
