1. Stop leaving funds on exchanges: If you don’t control your private keys, the crypto is not really yours.

2. Protect your recovery phrase like your life depends on it: That 12 or 24 word seed phrase is everything. Don’t even screenshot it and also never store it in your email or cloud.

3. Beware of phishing and fake apps: A lot of persons has actually lost funds through this. To those fake websites that look like real ones, Telegram/WhatsApp support messages, and those links promising free airdrops especially on telegram.

4. Use a separate wallet for risky stuff: If you must participate in those risky stuffs like airdrops, then create a new wallet for that.

Thanks for sharing, but what you are sharing is quite a common way used by scammers. One of the easiest and most effective ways of scamming anyone is by sending a phishing link on WhatsApp or Telegram in the disguise of being an employee of an exchange or a private wallet. The best way is to avoid anyone you do not know on chat apps.

Useful information, but this is all common sense at this point op. Storing funds on centralized exchanges is perfectly fine as long as you are using 2FA though private wallets will always offer better security and are more convenient to use in my opinion.

Just block all communication from people that you don't know on any app, site etc and double check every crypto transaction before approving them.

Nothing new for seasoned scam catchers but newbies really need to be careful about phishing links on messaging apps. Be careful who is trying to contact you on social media, do not trust anybody even if you know them in real life, their accounts might have been compromised and are sending out phishing links to their contacts.

Anything coming nearby to your crypto wallets, immediately get on guard.

However some people will get scammed, but this can be prevented.

Trustwallet has been known to get hacked/scammed.
It is almost as if they are being this incompetent on purpose.

I lost $6000 USD because of buggy UI on the REAL Trustwallet and every day I become more and more suspicious that the "hackers" and the Trustwallet devs may either be colluding or be one and the same people.

I have told people to stay away from Trustwallet because it is a dangerous, incompetent, closed-source wallet which has been nothing but trouble.

Trustwallet is not to be trusted, whether the real wallet or some fake Trustwallet that hackers/scammers created. In the end you will experience the same result very likely. There is no true trust to be found there.

This is extremely useful advice. Thanks for sharing this information here. It's ironic that trustwallet is itself one of the most untrustworthy wallets out there and I am glad that I never got around to using it in the past despite being slightly interested in it.

Converting tokens is definitely a gamble sometimes if you don't know what you are doing.

Apart from that it is very obvious what the intention of the user from the other side is when they contact you personally from telegram channels and give you links to download the apps.

Even I am shocked to see government issuing such warnings. I have never seen one in the past. I somehow doubt the originality of this article. I really hope it is true but if not, it won't actually break my mind as I know the current situations in our country. Government is gradually starting to show interest which is both, good and bad.

Positive outcome would be regulated exchanges, more focus on centralized applications and eradicating of spams and scams going on in the industry. Bad thing about it is that there will be no privacy. Government will interfere in almost each of our transactions which we never want.

I remember reading the wallet security thread. It's sad that even if knowledge is available for free, not everyone gets it. Your thread was quite helpful but I am sure a lot of fellow citizens would not be aware about keeping their funds/wallet safe.

That or the other way around. Use as many wallets as you want but keep a safe wallet where you can deposit and know it's totally safe. It's not a bad idea to even have multiple wallet providers, like use Trust Wallet for risky stuff and Exodus for saving or vice versa.

Sahi baat hai, chote exchanges ka sab se bada masla hi yahi hai ke woh kabhi bhi band ho jate hain ya phir withdrawal ke waqt achanak ajeeb o gareeb kyc demand karne lagte hain.
Log aksar exchanges ko bank account samajh lete hain jo ke sab se badi galti hai.Wallets ko alag alag rakhne wala idea best hai. Airdrops aur dapps ke liye aik alag wallet hona chahiye aur long-term savings ke liye bilkul alag (behtar hai hardware wallet ho). Is se agar phishing link par click ho bhi jaye, to kam az kam main funds safe rehte hain. Thanks for sharing this tip ۔
