Beating the bookie is constant hustle, every day is a new opportunity. The trick is to self limit in a way to only go for opportunities. I am still failing on that part, I find it really difficult to drop football out of my tickets even though it is by far my worst performer (this WC excluded, WC went great).

As for me, I missed the game not because of my thoughts above – I was at work and wasn't thinking much about football. Considering both games were officially played on the 19th in my zone (the France-England game started promptly at midnight), I was surprised when notifications about the game started pouring in on my phone.
I don't even know if it's good or bad, I was planning on one hand to take reliable bets on France, Mbappe and Kane, and on the other hand to take something weird (but hardly a total over 9.5 haha).

There was money to be made backing goals which is what we all expected, but as they say scared money don’t make money, going for the winner, corners and bookings was playing into the bookies hands and we did that anyway, at least most of us that bet, I saw Mbappe 2+ goals after I already placed my bet and exhausted my balance.

Yeah, we ve always known it's a fun format. But how do you get more than 10 people playing, and more than maybe 5 people playing after halfway through when everyone else has busted? Look at me, I stopped playing after 3 or 4 rebuys. haha And that's just to not be so inactive so early. The penalty was also implemented on popular request (well, popular, meaning a couple of peope who then no one objected to).

Now you just need to be more vocal (which you have been) and we will see if it can be tried again. It must be remembered at all times that participation is the prime objective.

Actually, I wasn't just thinking about the Champions League (it's also a relatively short tournament), but also the Premier League for example. Look, there are 38 rounds, and aggressive players have almost no chance of surviving (unless they stop in time, haha). Who will win here? The turtles or those who take all the risk? That would be interesting. The conditions could be lenient - like, say, you have to play at least 15 rounds to qualify for the prizes, or something like that.
And yes, I understand that the organizers' brains may explode while processing the data if the players' activity is high

I think it's already a "stable" format and seems to have met a middle ground with most participants, but let's open the floor once more in that thread to see if the penalty system stays or is adapted. There is no perfect way, admittedly, but the aim is to get majority to be okay with any changes, to ensure maximum participation.

Beat the Bookie is a great competition, and perfectly suited to a short, grand, rare, tournament. And there are certainly fans of this format, myself also included! I believe it's always about weighing in on complexity. We know we'll do fewer and fewer of straightforward Superbru style ones. People are clearly bored with that. As a group of users with common association on gambling, the majority of us are sophisticated enough to absolutely want more than plain Superbru. On the other hand, I'm just not certain that if we replicate this format for regular seasonal club footbal that we'd get as many participants so perhaps we simply have to rely on Cro2's ability and desire to continue running these to satisfy different appetites.

The other thing is -- and this is purely logistics -- these things take quite a lot of time/effort/cost to make and not everyone is keen to contribute to that cost. Getting a sponsor to foot that cost has not always been smooth for me. Call that unfortunate timing because Champions League starts only after all the regular leagues do, it seems this "sponsor fatigue" has happened every season. Frankly speaking, if we did have a financial incentive, a lot more could be done! As it is, the UCL format we have is very much remains a passion project joker_josue and me.

It's a compliment, in fact, to Cro2 to be able to negotiate such agreements that compensate for their work (you better believe it's proper work for them to grade all these tickets, get the organisation right, and keep the motivation high!) and were they to be able to continue these kinds of formats, instead of competing with them, I prefer to support their efforts. They've got this BtB template, I think if people like it, and sponsors like it, we continue on this framework =)

I'm not sure I hit on all the right points, and sorry to hijack this thread, but I hope it's understood that we see the relevant points!

Losing those Argentina outrights hurt, dropping me from 5th to 9th, still finishing just $20 in the red after wagering over $1,000 throughout the tournament isn't too bad, as well as a $150 free bet so still with a chance to make it into the black. It could have been a profitable run if Argentina had managed to win the cup but it wasn't meant to be, Spain was just too strong and there wasn't much else the boys could have done against them. Despite the heartbreaking end for my team, this was another great community contest. The amount of strategizing and the high level of competition made it fun from the start until the end.

A massive thank you to the cro2 team for running things so flawlessly. I can't imagine the amount of work you put in in managing and grading in this event alongside all the other events, all while trying to actually sit back and enjoy the matches yourselves. Sometimes I felt overwhelmed just trying to submit my picks for all the different contests, so doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes must have been intense. If my travels ever bring me back to Croatia the rakija is 100% on me!

I ended up in the red thanks to try in the last journey to reach a decent spot in the prizes, i end up with nothing in my hands thanks to a really bad game from Argentina.

This was interesting world cup and I think best team won the title, now we are preparing for EURO 2028 that is going to be played in United Kingdom.
