Is Bitcoin a store of value or medium of exchange? Or can it be both?

In the crypto industry Bitcoin it is often called digital gold by crypto investors but it mainly function as a digital store of value due to it fixed supply limit of 21 million coins existence in the crypto market which also helps in the prevention of inflation that is normally caused by central bank printing, and making crypto investors to hold and treat Bitcoin as a long-term investment asset rather than spending it on a daily basis. Although Bitcoin is designed as a peer to peer medium of exchange whereby it allows and let you send digital money direct to another person anywhere around the world, a transaction just between two parties without you needing a middleman like the bank or government to approve the transaction payment process.

Bitcoin and gold actually have some similarities, but Bitcoin is better than gold itself because it has appreciated in value surpassing gold. As a store of value, Bitcoin sustains the value of your currency, and make it appropriate in value over time. Originally, Bitcoin is known as digital currency currency, but I think the performance of Bitcoin in terms of value appreciation made investors to assign the name digital gold. Furthermore, the volatile nature of Bitcoin is for the benefit of investors, this makes Bitcoin to fluctuate in price , and give people the opportunity of investing when the price of Bitcoin goes down because of Bitcoin is only going up, many people would loose the opportunity of investing especially retail investors.

I think Bitcoin can be both, but right now it makes more sense as digital gold. The volatility still makes everyday pricing awkward, while its scarcity and portability fit the store-of-value idea much better.
But it was initially made as a currency. It was made as a currency that was decentralised and wasnt controlled by a central authority and users had control in their own hands. But right now it is being used as a store of value as with time its price increased so people saw this as a great opportunity to invest and get good returns, though bitcoin investing isn’t a great thing and is a safe one too but it initially was made as a currency

...

The main function of Bitcoin is as a digital currency, not a digital store of value, which you can see in the Bitcoin white paper. Just because more people use Bitcoin as a store of value doesn't mean Bitcoin has lost its original purpose as a medium of exchange. Bitcoin still functions as a digital currency. Whether people see Bitcoin as a long-term investment or a store of value is their choice, but that doesn't change what it was originally designed to do.

Bitcoin fulfils both roles of being a store of value and a medium of exchange. However, in the long run, Bitcoin is best suited as a store of value because of its restricted supply and growing demand, but it's volatility doesn't make it suitable being a medium of exchange.

Bitcoin pumping harder than gold doesn't make it better than gold. That only makes it better in terms of investment return, not in every other aspect.
The two asset have different characteristics, purposes, risk profiles. If you are judging which one is better based only on price gains. You're confusing investment returns with asset's value and role.

Second, Bitcoin may offer higher returns but it come with higher risk too. And volatility can give you a chance to buy the dip, but it can just as easily leave you with heavy losses.
Not everyone who invest in BTC comes out in profit, volatility are also why a lot of folks think twice before putting money into it.

There's a similarity between the both based on how they operate but bitcoin is more versatile based some is their personal investment while some are using it make transactions for goods and services with a traditional bank account easily without a middle man.

Well, you have your own opinion but I think or even I believe that Bitcoin is much better than Gold wether it's in terms of liabilities (RIO) or tech. Like Bitcoin has better capacity than Gold such as having a transparency mode, decentralization and it's a portable to carry everywhere, security and form all above it's 24/7 optimization. Despite Gold haven't all thses and that's why all over the world people are just heading form each other to adopt it widely......

Besides that only volitility is the bad toes which make Bitcoin like bit hazzy than Gold like only volitility can cause little hurdleness for ppl but if you keep it for long then probably it will never feel you to hesitate form it....

I think you are confusing technological advantages with being a better asset overall.

Bitcoin clearly has the edge when it comes to transferability, transparency, 24/7 trading. But gold doesn't need the internet, and electricity, or network to hold its value. It's been used as a store of value for thousands of year.

Like I said, these two asset have different characteristics and serve different purposes. Comparing them is like comparing a tank to a F1 car, and saying F1 car is better just because it is faster. Each is built for a different job, and being better at one thing doesn't mean it's better at everything else.

In my opinion, Bitcoin is a store of value like gold and could even be called digital gold. In fact, I think BTC is even better than gold in terms of storing value. Saving money in BTC has the potential to be more profitable than storing it in gold, as long as it's stored for a very long time. Meanwhile, I think BTC can also be called a digital currency because it was created by Satoshi Nakamoto as electronic money We can use it as a tool for cross-border transactions and it's certainly decentralized

Currently, many people are confused because of the fluctuating price of BTC, so some are certainly confused about buying and selling using BTC However, I believe BTC is currently in the development stage, so I believe there is potential for BTC in the future. Its volatility will not be too high, making it comfortable for people who want to use BTC as a digital currency That's just my opinion, and please forgive me if I'm wrong, as I'm still a beginner

I don't think Bitcoin is a currency, do we consider gold as a currency at all? How do we actually use gold, where is its main value?
We know that Bitcoin prevents the depreciation of fiat currency. If a person buys gold without depositing fiat currency, any kind of inflation of that local fiat will not have any effect on that person's economy.
Similarly, when the future world becomes technology-dependent and the economy is moving towards digital, Bitcoin will be the most influential in the digital economy. We are not aware of the fixed supply of gold, yet the value of gold is so high, that is, gold is still so valuable. But we know about the fixed supply of Bitcoin and no one can control Bitcoin by any person or group, that is, it is completely decentralized, so its value should be higher than Bitcoin. I think it is thousands of times better than Bitcoin.

I see Bitcoin as both digital gold and digital currency. Sure, the price moves a lot, but that doesn't mean it can't be used to pay for things. As a BTC holder, I don't think we should only focus on holding and waiting for the price to go up. What's the point of crypto if we never use it?

Well, Gold was used as currency long before it became a store of value.
Bitcoin itself is a currency because that was its  original design. It's just that hardly anyone uses it that way anymore.

Just because the economy is going digital doesn't mean digital assets will become more valuable or physical assets less attractive .  Technology changes  how we transact and store assets, but it doesn't automatically determine which assets are worth more.

An asset's  value also  depends on its use cases and demand,  not just its supply. And when it comes to demand, gold still has the upper hand.

Many say that BTC is the new digital gold. No matter what they say or think, if they see it as gold, I'd say BTC is much more valuable than gold.

Regarding what you said about not spending, it depends on your goals and objectives. What you want to achieve with BTC is what you should focus on. Many of us focus on having BTC to secure our future, and that's why we buy BTC and accumulate it, taking advantage of dips, pullbacks, and other methods. But if you want to buy BTC and want to HODL it for a short time, that's your decision. The important thing is that you use it, but BTC goes far beyond that; it has incredible potential. Perhaps that's why people buy it and don't want to spend it, but rather accumulate and build up more BTC.

People started calling bitcoin as digital gold not only because of the increase in price. Because the price of gold did not increase so quickly, due to which bitcoin would not be considered similar to gold. But the main point here is that just as people started considering gold as a valuable asset, people also started considering bitcoin as a valuable asset like gold for various reasons. And maybe it was from then that people started calling bitcoin as digital gold. And there are many reasons behind bitcoin becoming valuable, which made bitcoin much stronger and also made it much different from gold. Especially consider the feature of fixed supply. While the supply of gold is limited, the supply of bitcoin is fixed, where it is not possible to exceed 21 million.

In addition the price of bitcoin is increasing over time, its acceptance is increasing, which has made bitcoin even more advanced and valuable. Another thing is that bitcoin's security system is very strong and there is no extra hassle for transaction facilities and storage.

Many say that BTC is the new digital gold. No matter what they say or think, if they see it as gold, I'd say BTC is much more valuable than gold.
There is physical gold and there was no digital gold.
Bitcoin is Bitcoin, not a digital gold so it is certainly not a new digital gold.
Only years after Bitcoin Genesis block in January 2009, there was tokenized gold but these tokens are not actual gold. They only have pegs to gold price but it is safer to invest money in physical gold than in such tokens.

The same rule with investment in bitcoin and Wrapped Bitcoin tokens. It is more stupid to invest in Wrapped Bitcoin tokens because Bitcoin itself is digital already.

Bitcoin has still never surpassed gold. To my knowledge, Bitcoin has only ever exceeded the market capitalization of silver. Nevertheless, I am confident that at some point sooner, or later; Bitcoin will approach or even overtake gold. When comparing the two, one key difference stands out  "their supply". Like we know, Bitcoin’s supply is capped at 21 million units, whereas the total amount of gold remains unknown, as there is still a significant quantity yet to be discovered underground. I believe this is what sets them apart, and, in my view it is also what gives Bitcoin the advantage.

Bitcoin has a big edge with its hard cap of just 21M coins. But scarcity doesn't mean much without demand. An asset does not become valuable just because its supply is limited, it needs real demand behind it.

That is  why the supply of gold is much larger, and new gold is mined every year, but that hasn't pushed its price down. If anything, it's gone up.

So for BTC to flip gold,  it needs a lot more demand. That's where I have my doubts, since its real world utility is pretty limited compared to gold.  Gold is used across basically every industry, while Bitcoin is just a store of value.

Bitcoin is both a digital gold and a digital currency. Bitcoin and gold are complementary assets, they can both function together, having gold as the physical gold while bitcoin is the digital gold since it can only be accessible online, has a store of value, and a hedge against inflation like gold itself.

Bitcoin can also perform as a digital currency across borders. It was created to act like a currency to gain financial freedom to get rid of the shadows of bank and government. But since global adoption is still in process, bitcoin at the moment is most likely used as a store of value online.

You’re very correct, bitcoin and gold are both digital currency. Bitcoin and gold are related assets, and the both of them can function together. Just as you have said, gold is a physical asset while bitcoin is a digital currency that can only be access through online and it helps to fight against inflation like gold on its own.

The main aim why bitcoin was created  was for people to have full access to their money without waiting for banks and to also get rid of government.
