Can AI really help with sports betting, or are we overrating it?

Since ChatGPT came out in late 2022, AI has become mainstream enough that almost every industry has people trying to plug it into something. But I’m curious about sports betting specifically.

Is anyone here actually building or testing anything serious around AI and sports betting?

I don’t mean those random “AI prediction” websites that just say Team A will win,  Team B will lose, and gate it behind a paid service, and then disappear when the pick fails. I mean proper systems that try to model games, compare bookmaker odds, track closing line value, separate strong picks from watchlist picks, or even handle bankroll/risk decisions better.

For example, I’ve been playing around with the idea of a football betting system that does more than just predict match winners. Something that looks at team strength, expected goals, home/away scoring rates, goal probability models and using all of that data to make a goal grid to predict the probability of a fixture ending in over 1.5, over 2.5, etc.

The more I look at it, the more I feel AI may be more useful as a research assistant than as a magic prediction machine. Maybe it can help organize data, spot weak markets, compare lines across bookmakers, explain why a bet is risky, or separate “looks good” picks from bets that actually have some value behind them.

So far, I have had 2 wins and 1 loss and each bet was an acca of 2-4 odds.

Has anyone here tried building something like this, even as a personal project? And do you think AI can create a real edge in sports betting, or is it mostly hype for now?

I am sure we had this discussion a few times already and as I stated previously the data we give as input to the AI is gonna give the result accordingly. So yeah we can get better predictions with more accurate prompt of what you are looking for instead of just asking the team A or Team B. ANd what it does is simply analyse what most people talked about the game and when you include the criteria of check the recent form, any injury update and whatelse that might contribute to the outcome then it comes with a result for it.

AI can not help gamblers to win a sport bet, it can I only provide past informations but it can't tell what will happen in the future of sport betting. The same way AI can not provide a reliable information based the amount/price Bitcoin will be in the future that's the same way chatgpt can not predict who will win and who will lose on sport games. It only provide informations based on the pass and they are not reliable. It is very wise for a gambler to make his own predictions instead of relying on chatgpt for predictions.

Ai will just give you is opinion the way the club are performing, and can predict it the way he think but that can't give guarantees of wining because gambling is not something you can predicting always and think you will be get profit on it. Anyone that said Ai as be predicting games for him and win he can be a lucky but in real fact no one can get full guarantees when you ply sport betting, that is why gambling is always risk since no one can be predicting always I think he will cashout.

Have used Ai to predict Manchester United game against Liverpool tomorrow and he as show me that Manchester United can be the favorite to win the match dew to home advantage, so we will see who can win the game. But everyone knows that Liverpool are not in there best form currently, and that can give Carrick to win the match to qualify to ucl next season.

So Ai as give is opinion we don't know how the match will ended. So is better you predict sport betting by your self through the form of the team not to be depending on something that don't have guarantees, because betting is unpredictable is only lucky can make you win not by your expect.

Sports are normally played by humans. And it will be very difficult to predict the behavior or performance of players at a given time. AI can only gather relevant information about the clubs or players, analyse them and give their prediction. The prediction of these bots are mere speculations based on data available bout the parties involved. These tools dont have the power to predict future occurance accurateley. You can rely on these AI tools for fast and accurate analysis but their predictions are not guranteed. Many things can affect the outcome of the game such as injuries, suspension or a big mistake. Any AI tools that promise to giv sure bets might be a scam.

If you try AI in sports betting once and it works, I do not still think that it can be correct all the time, And it it will be very dangerous for you to become dependent on this as a way to gamble because you will be taking bets blindly.
It will be okay to use AI to do some research to help you make a better decision, not hand the entire job of decision making to AI to do for you. It is not different from just taking bets from another person to play as some peoplle use to do.

Yup. I get that. The reason I am bringing it back is because current AI models are continuously being improved. So the idea is that as these models get improvements and get smarter, they would get better and smarter right? From my understanding so far, just allowing AI to make all the decisions is wrong but I'm actually talking about actually using it to create a deterministic model that does 99% of the hardwork. Before now the bar to creating such models were ridiculously high but I reckon it has dropped considerably in the last few years.

It won't provide you with accurate future predictions, but still, it can help you with analysis that might take hours or days for you to complete and that alone is a big win. I am not a fan of just leaving AI to do the prediction and then relying entirely on it, but it can be used as a tool in combination with your own skill to make predictions more accurate.

I haven't really searched for any AI gambling tool, but now that you mentioned it, I think I might have to go try and see if anyone has built something that can be used even if it's a personal open source project.

Unless the AI you are using has the most updated information out there or being updated in real time, then yeah, it could help organize data, spot weak markets, compare lines across bookmakers. But if the AI you are using doesn't have the most updated information or being updated in real time, it wouldn't be much of an help since it would give outdated information.

I think AI cannot give completely correct information to win sports betting, because AI can never give correct information about the future, AI can give an approximate result based on various information. There are many important things that they could not be completely successful in sports betting depending on AI. We have heard before that sports betting has won the jackpot by betting on AI, but their number is very limited. I think luck plays a big role in winning gambling, if luck is good, then the gambler can win the jackpot. So the main reason why all the gamblers who have been able to win the jackpot by relying on AI information is that they were able to win because they were lucky. I always give more priority to my own research, the probability of winning by betting on AI or ChatGPT information never increases, this is a completely wrong idea.

load in having to find as much information as we desire ourselves and cut the time spend too.

While it is difficult and time-consuming for a human to analyze past data, AI can do it very easily and very quickly. And since analysis is very important for sports betting to make a potential prediction, Ai can definitely help a lot in making a successful prediction. By properly observing the winning history of a team and the performance history of the players in the past few years, a potential prediction can be made, which works very well. That is why I will definitely trust Ai in sports betting and I think that Ai will help me win more than I can on my own.

I think you are doing good in using artificial intelligence to get a powerful tool to analyze markets and get the best value out your bets, that is completely different from what the majority of people do, by asking directly to the Artificial intelligence who the winner is going to be.
Even though I could initially feel tempted to do something similar to what you are doing, I have the impression the initial setup would be very long and tedious.
To me (as a casual gambler) it is easier so to go with my gut feeling and see how can get the best out of my previous experience.

If using artificial intelligence could guarantee some money in my pocket in the long term, then I would totally go for it and take my time to get the best setup possible, and even paying in order to get premium access to AIs, but as it stands today, there is no warranty of consistency or profitability...

Oh no, that’s not what I meant, and it’s not the point I was trying to make. No one can predict the future, at least not yet, and maybe not ever. AI in its basic form is actually quite dumb, especially when you give it little or no context. What I mean is using AI to organize data sources, clean up data, and help structure the process. Then the actual model uses that data to calculate the probability of an event happening. In this case, the event could be the probability of two or more goals being scored in a football match, using data like each team’s xG, recent form, home/away scoring rates, and a properly fitted Dixon-Coles model.

Maybe if ai does majority of the research workload, we can have more mental bandwidth to make better predictions or picks?

The only help i know that AI can give is to gather information about a match then it is you who will use that information and make your prediction. AI makes it easier and faster to gather information about past meetings, standings in the table, average numbers of goals that has been scored by both teams and if there are some common things that happens whenever both teams meet each other. It can gather these information in seconds unlike when we used to search many sites before we can get every statistics that we need.

Friend, AI only calculates probabilities from the data they have, the more data they have the better they are at making calculations, that's how AI works.
 
I have tried using AI this year and in the previous year because I think AI this year is much better at data problems than the previous years which are still lacking.
However, the results are still fairly random, there are wins and losses, so it's the same as when we bet without using AI, and AI friends just like humans cannot predict the future.

You could have looked for the other threads to continue the discussion. There were discussions. AI cannot  give the accurate predictions of rhe bet but it will be like human predictions and the a analysis you as human do cannot be done by the robot or AI. It is good you use you own analysis to make your bets than using AI. I have not heard of any gambler who was helped by AI to bey and win streak. I don't trust AI predictions.

Than using AI prediction it’s better for you to work with own decisions because AI will never give a gambling correct predictions, there’s some people that using the AI when it comes to the sport betting but it is not that it really give them what can happen in the games only give them some experience that they don know about; and that’s why most of the gamblers prefer to go AI if they want to research about game’s predictions or helps them out of the way.

But not that you can make uses of the AI prediction and win the sports betting that is the most difficult thing that I don’t think it will happen, accept the luck because if the luck is behind your back sometimes you might use the AI prediction and work out the odds

First of all, I want to ask here that can chatgpt or artificial intelligent predict the future? Of course the answer will be no. And in the case of gambling, to get a guarantee of winning, you must know the future, which is not possible for anyone in the world except by doing black magic.  

So I personally think that artificial intelligence can never help us in gambling, be it casino gambling or sports betting. However, artificial intelligence can only help us in sports analysis by providing data, but it never guarantees us that we will win.

I think this kind of topic has been discussed, I will just repeat what I know and experience, basically in general we know, AI or any analysis tool is only a tool in terms of providing data on a team that we want to bet on, AI is very helpful but the matter of results does not guarantee that it will always be successful, luck always plays a role.
We must realize that there are other factors that we cannot predict, such as weather, red cards, referees and anything else in the middle of an ongoing match.
