Do we have unspoken rules in this forum

This may not belong here but I had this question in mind for quite a long time, I don't know what board exactly it would fit in but here I would love to ask this question.

I know that the forum rules and regulations are clearly stated but however in every gathering, there are some rules that are not primary rules nor secondary but tertiary rules that are not always discussed or talked about but as a member of that gathering, as time passes by you will seem to likely begin to understand or noticed and adhere to them without anyone telling you about it.

so my question is does the forum have something like that?

Merit sales is one of them, it is not stated in the list of unofficial forum rules but it is not accepted by the community. Account sales are also not in fact allowed in the community rules. This will not get you any direct mod action like a ban or nuke, but will get you red tags from the community. They do not count as unspoken, they are talked about a lot here.

Aside from merit-related rules, it's the "local thread rules", although this was on the forum rules, but only a handful of users use this rule, where it should be followed if mentioned on the thread, or else your post can be reported by OP and be deleted even though there are no forum rules related to it, but for the thread only.

Remember that there are rules but moderators have their individual interpretation which sometimes are different among moderators. It can be a little bit confusing for forum members but it's unlikely hidden or unspoken rules.

Do not be a pest in the forum.

This might appear really insignificant but it's a serious one. Once you start to appear everywhere for the wrong reason and starts painting a wrong narrative about yourself, You might suffer while staying on the forum. If you know little about bitcoin, just come out plain that way and be ready to learn, don't try to project what you're not or else staying in the forum will seems hard for you. There might not be a direct rule restricting you from posting a certain way but once you're posting in a manner that suggest you're just fishing merit, you might end up getting noticed for the very wrong reason.

Merit sales are have no rules on this forum, but merit source are giving the rules that they should not sell merit. Account sales are against by members of this forum, but forum admin do not against it than it to be discouraged which means people should post bad about anyone that are selling Bitcointalk accounts.

Those are actually four good valid unspeakable rules that we actually have on this forum together with the list of the unofficial rules given on the list above by @mprep. However, I will like to add mine too which I think they are unspoken, but acts as a necessity which every user on this forum needs to know about and understand it. And they include;

Do NOT not expose your account Gmail to the public, because you can get hacked
Do NOT click on unknown link posted by random users for you own safety.
Apply caution when trading with people with red tags.

Because these are rules both personal and forum related worth knowing our safety

OP, don't bother buying an account, its safer and also more helpful for you when it's all your doings right from the start.

If you have anybody closer to you, relative or neighbour that's also available on this forum, do not help them to sell tokens or coins, let them do their own things by themselves or you will risk answering for something that has no proof.

Don't also give them your Bitcoin address, for them to move coins into so that you can help them to sell on an exchange, thinking that you are doing them a favour, or else you will explain till infinite and no one will believe you.

 Even without these unspoken rules, I feel that with the guidelines, lists and unofficial rules, one can navigate and abide by the code this forum operates on. Sometimes in a bid to not fail the law, we become too careful and miss out on enjoying what the forum has to offer. It's okay to make mistakes, I mean that's why we are all here; to learn. It will be very bad that after one has "known" all the rules, they still get caught over an issue like plagiarism or the popular one; the ownership of alts and using it to cheat in campaigns so then what would be the need to ask alll the questions.

You can and even give that person a neutral feedback if it's a know address on the forum to avoid anything. But it doesn't make any sense when the same user keep sending all their assets made from your forum to your address , does it? Why not teach them  how they can withdraw and use it them selves .

You can, but like I said use the medium to teach them as a first timer on how they can do it themselves, if you don't  want implication then give them neutral feedback. If you're trying to avoid it entirely then teach them directly instead of collecting it to help them, they shouldn't be depending on you everytime.
You will likely have problem when multiple accounts keep sending bitcoin made from same contests, campaigns, e.tc  to  your accounts every time because it looks like alt farm  and the pattern already break rules

Yes they are talked about but not as primary rules, having it discussed but not on the main thread of rules means they are secondary rules.

And with that I think it's not always known by newbies as fact as they know the official rules. finding them talks a few times to be discovered.

I somehow seem to like some of the opinions that seem like unspoken rules but I haven't find out that hit yet, maybe I will keep this thread open to see more.

Platforms that have unspoken rules are the ones that looks to victimize their participants. If I were Op, I will care more about the Unofficial rules first. If you read, understand the unofficial rules, you are very okay to succeed here. What I learnt about bitcointail.org is that it is not rule oriented. If there was a way that everyone will be honest and modest, theymos will prefer to run this platform with zero rules. But that will not work because we are of different cultures, background and countries.

Op, just do your things and don't be scared of abstract rules because in the end, everything is treated case by case.

On the other hand some persons don't know if they are doing the wrong thing until they are being called to order so when you talk about this I feel is not that easy to keep to the rules.
Is best to use the rules that are pinned to start, while doing so you watch how the others operate so you'd learn, in other words weather spoken or unspoken rules, rules are meant to be broken but it all depends on how you go about it, some do it by mistake (like myself, it has happened before... nobody is perfect but the moment you lie that's when it becomes bad for you), so we all had to be mindful of what we do in other not to fall victim.

Yes, in my area they said that "anybody who ask questions doesn't get missen", but we should never forget that in that pinned threads where the instructions or rules and regulations, not everybody who opens it love to read everything, some persons find it hard to read long post and they only skip, many of us are guilty of this act?.
Speaking about posting from a source without dropping a link, I'm a victim of that, I never knew that is how things are done here not until I was corrected by @lovesmayfamilis and I corrected myself only problem was that the post was deleted before I could drop the link but the bottom line is that I stopped doing things that way. What I'm trying to say is that some persons find it hard to correct their errors even when they have been told to do so, instead they continue doing their thing like is nothing, how do we treat these sets of persons?  Because some members will see it as wickedness when the Queen of investigation finds out.

It's included, but for merit sources;

It is not allowed for merit sources to sell their merit.

Though this rules for merit sources, but if a user caught selling merits would be punished by the DT community.

Otherwise there are no punishable hidden rules, but rules could be added at any time from time to time. However, we should keep in mind anything that looks abusive to the forum would be considered against the forum rules. For example, attempt to hack someone else's account; if someone like this is noticed by the forum, then the questioned account would get a temporary ban.

Nobody knows everything completely, we make mistakes and learn from them. That is how things work out. But those others who probably knows what they are doing is wrong or not encouraged by the community, and still wanted to do it for whatever reasons or simply they are here to troll and when you come across such user better to click the ignore and move on instead of getting involved in endless debate.

I don't understand what you mean by unspoken rules neither do i understand what you meant by tertiary rules but what i can say that any rule that is not officially written might not really have severe penalty or taken seriously. A rule must be written so that users can access it anytime. If a rule is hidden, then there will be high chances of being violated which it will become difficult to punish the rule breaker.

Is it really possible to sell merits in the forum? and how does it work because it's kind of strange to me why someone will buy merits when they can earn it by making quality posts.
