Happy Birthday Hal Finney

It's not possible that a day like this should go by and we did not celebrate a great icon in the history of Bitcoin, Hal Finney of Blessed memories, it is worth celebrating because this great legend is one of the first early users of Bitcoin, as we commonly know that he was the first to receive bitcoin from satoshi, but something unique about today is that he clocked 70 years today from another world.

Born: 4th May 1956
Died: 28th August 2014

How I wish a legend like this still remains on Earth, sometimes I asked myself this question that why do the good people left too early? But we can't question nature, at least they have delivered to their generation in their own time and this is also relevance to more generations to come as it is a lifetime achievement and a remarkable one indeed.

Jameson Lopp thought Hal Finney was not Satoshi Nakamoto and he did his investigation, found evidence for proving this assumption.

With many information, evidence written in that blog post by J. Lopp, it's convincing enough with me that Hal Finney is not Satoshi Nakamoto but there are many people are keen on a conspiracy theory that Hal Finney is the Bitcoin founder.

With time passes, even theymos changed his mind and thought that Hal Finney is a best candidate to be Satoshi Nakamoto.

My current feeling on Satoshi's identity is:
 - Sassaman is a very bad candidate. If this is their conclusion, then they totally failed to do proper research.
 - 50% chance it's someone nobody's ever heard of, and nobody will ever figure it out
 - 35% chance it's Hal Finney. (Over time, I've moved more probability into this category.)
 - 10% chance it's someone else in the Bitcoin-verse
 - 5% chance it's a group within the CIA

Most of us know Satoshi Nakamoto but few know about the first believer of Bitcoin, Hal Finney

We know that Satoshi Nakamoto came with the Bitcoin idea but we rarely talk about the man who provided validation.

What would've been the fate of Bitcoin network without Hal running the software on his PC? Maybe, it would've ended as a "network of one".

When others were telling Satoshi that Bitcoin could not work, one man showed belief in it rawest form and made the famous "running Bitcoin" tweet.

While fighting ALS, Hal was still committed to making sure that Bitcoin was secured for future generations.

Bitcoin is a successful project today because Satoshi had a Hal who helped lay the cornerstone.

To the man who ensured Bitcoin survived it's infancy, happy 70th posthumous birthday.

With the data that everyone can see in the internet, it's like a quick guess that it might be him.

But, no one will be able to verify that. It's going to be carved in the history that no would be able to reveal who actually satoshi is except himself.

Everybody has an appointed time to live on earth. It is also important to know that the number of years one spends on earth doesn't really matter. What is important is your impact on the community. So people lived very short lives, but they contributed positively to their families, schools, workplaces, communities, countries, and the world at large.

Hal Finney lived a short but impactful life. His contribution to the success of Bitcoin is eternal. You are right, having such an individual would have been a great value to the world. His wealth of knowledge would have made him a mentor to many people.

As a transhumanist, he believes that one day technology will discover the solution to ALS and aging. Maybe we might come alive again.

What a moral lesson this has taught us, that we should also be of good impact, so that our generation will feel our presence and also miss us after we are gone, Hal Finney did well for his generation and others coming, and we can also ask ourselves that same question of how we have been impacting our generation or not.

I don't know and I wouldn't care if it was or it wasn't Hal Finney. We are all Satoshi Nakamoto, thats all... At the end, who really cares?
Would it change something or it would be just another "silly" excuse to understand the origin of bitcoin so a weakness on this protocol?
I would see the essence of bitcoin on neutrality of its inventor. Even this search that lead to a "%" trying to guess look as part of the scheme.

On the other hand, reading this got me a little sober cus I remembered that this legend left this world too early, a 75 years old man in my church is still very healthy and bouncing like a man at his 40s, but here, Hal finney, I would refer to him as the second in command in the bitcoin ecosystem, on 4th of May 2026 marked 70 years while already dead since 2014, how sad and a true testament that good people don't last 😢

58 years old was too young but all the same, I believe it's not really about how long a person lives but how much impact they made while they were alive, Hal is celebrated and will be continually celebrated even in future generations to come because of the impact he made in the bitcoin community and his contribution to the growth of the ecosystem..
I hope where ever he is now, he is seeing how successful bitcoin has become and smilling while not regretting anything.. Amen 🙏

Blessed is he who leaves a mark on our world, so I believe that although he left us too soon, he accomplished a feat that very few of us will achieve: immortalizing our history. How many people have died and no one remembers them anymore? I think the legacy that some, like Hal, leave is very important, and even more important to some than a long life.
