Nowadays, public office (elective and otherwise) now goes with the drive for popularity! The case of politicians are so painful that this popularity gives them more joy than the accomplishment of their duty as public servants.
They even drag the media with celebrities.
Politicians have forgotten there place as public servants. Politicians are not celebrities.

Very true, the rate of deviation from duties by politicians is really alarming, none of them is bordered about serving anymore, some assume political positions just because of fame, they have no compassion for the masses, they ain’t bothered about service it’s just to loot money so they alone will continue being relevant, in Nigeria immediately a politician win he will start campaigning for his next administration throughout the current administration, like they are more interested in winning and staying famous than good governance.

Nigeria is really in a mess and the way things are going only a revolution can change things because politicians no longer care about the masses, u will see as common as a counselor driving all manner of clean cars from ill gotten money that is suppose to be for the people.

Many of our leaders de behave like dem be kings instead of servants wey we elect them as. Once dem enter office, dem forget say na we the citizens de pay their salary through tax. Then go build mansion, but exotic cars, travel abroad every month while the same people wey vote for them de struggle with hunger, bad roads, no light and insecurity.
Politicians place na to serve not lord over us. We need to remind them through our votes and through civil engagement.

Many of our leaders behave as if they are monarchs rather than the slaves we elected them to be. Once in government, they forget that we, the citizens, fund their salaries through taxes. Then go construct mansions with expensive automobiles and travel overseas every month while the same people who voted for them are suffering from hunger, terrible roads, lack of light, and insecurity.

Politicians are there to serve, not to lord it over us. We must remind them through our votes and civic engagement.Nigeria is in a shambles, and the way things are going, only a revolution would change things since politicians no longer care about the population. You will find counsellors driving all manner of clean automobiles with ill-gotten money that is supposed to be for the people.

Politicians are indeed not celebrities, but because of the lack of checks and balances in government, and the high rate of corruption through which once an elected politicians gets into office, he/she becomes untouchable for the rest 4yrs in power and yet the citizens can't do anything, even when they embezzle public funds and fails to provide the basic amenities they promised during campaign. So until we as citizens know our rights and place as the true people who voted these politicians into power, they will never know their places. Because they are even benefiting the government now than when if they were to be held accountable

The worst part be say dem no even de pretend again or hide anything,  dem de openly display wealth wey no match their salary or known businesses. Hunger de everywhere yet dem de budget billions for National Assembly renovation and exotic vehicles.
I used to believe voting alone can change things but the way things de go now, e de clear say something fundamental done break.
My question to everyone, how did we reach this level where politicians no longer fear the people? Is it because we the citizens have accepted suffering as our portion or because the system itself rewards bad behavior?

For a very long time politicians don't know their place anymore because if you could check most of them after getting elected, they see that as an opportunity to even change environment which I found as something that should not be done because that was not their duty. In Nigeria politicians see public office as a business because they always say that, they  didn't get their freely which means they spend a lot of money to acquire that position and they believe that after getting it the best thing for them is to get back all what they are spent and also profit and that is why they try to forget us. Honestly this system is so bad and I don't see any development that will come if we continue to live like this.

Na for this Tinubu regime i know say politicians no dey hide anything again, in fact they will do anything they like and nothing go happen and e no still matter say make them come to una place Dey need Una vote for the next election, even though they know that people will not vote them they know tgat they have power and they will do everything to make sure they win, nothing dey this Tinubu regime, na to arrest people wey dey talk truth go put them for prison all because of say them get power.

I think they are even happy with the way they country is going, they are happy that the citizens are suffering and getting killed by bandits and kidnappers, i have never seen Nigeria like this before, the country has become a place where no one is safe and no one can come out and be proud of their country, anyone who voted any APC candidate in coming election is among the problems of the country.

That's a painful steretagy that politicians are using now to gain popularity in the country, in addition to that, many of the things that our politicians commission are to just get popularity in other the country not to benefit their citizens. Can you imagine Nigeria is ranked 6th position in global economic contributing countries, yet masses are still complaining of economic hardship, that also shows that they have abandoned their primary assignments and focused on the things that can make them popular.

Same applies to those politicians who gave positions to older people that are not capable of doing anything just to gain their support. They don't know that if they do their assign work, people will love and respect them more than their expectations.

We are the only once thinking our political representatives have forgotten there place as public servants in Nigeria because I am sure they do remember there place but because  everything in the country have been politicised is the only reason they believe nothing can ever go wrong with them even if they exceed there constitutional rights.
Assuming we they are representing have not sold our constitutional rights because of peanuts, do you think this politicians would have operated the way they are doing.

The question we should ask ourselves is, are this politicians being able to govern well before now that we will now say they are there to test their popularity? Because as for me I haven't seen anyone of them that has genuine interest of the people at heart other than their selfish interest for themselves and family which are their major aim of governance. The politicians we have are after stomach infrastructure and don't protect the lives and property of the citizens that's why you see the president very relaxed over terrorism in the country.

This politicians are only here to make wealth and cheap popularity and forgetting that they are there to serve, I think the country is lawless and because politicians don't give account of stewardship to the constituency that they represent that's why the forsake their civic responsibilities/duties and be seeking popularity, flaunting wealth on social media the likes of former Sen. Dino Melaye.

You have gotten it right because that is exactly what is happening and let's be honest we deserve all what we are facing because ever from the beginning we have make an exchange, which shows that the deal is done immediately we sell our vote. Nobody will want to invest for a loss that is why our politicians do fight hard to get to that position not because of Us but what they have spent, and if this disease is not taken away from us I can't predict anytime soon that will be enjoying, because if you continue selling our vote then our problem will continue to increase without any favours from our leaders.

Politicians have forgotten there place as public servants. Politicians are not celebrities.

This comes from a kind of urge to promote themselves to others. Some politicians want to promote more than what they do for the country. This kind of mental tendency recommends them to promote their activities in the mass media. This is not really joy but a vain attempt to cover up their failures. Most corrupt politicians are involved in trying to increase their popularity by using journalists. Most politicians will approach you before voting to become public representatives but after being elected they forget about the interests of the people.

Because they are even benefiting the government now than when if they were to be held accountable
After the government is elected, the politicians of that party start abusing the power completely and thinking themselves very powerful, they completely forget why the common people elected them. They only start embezzlement money by involving themselves in various types of corruption. They forget about the country and the general people. They think that now that they have been elected, no one can do anything they want, whatever they say or do is right, neither power nor money is permanent, it is completely temporary, but politicians forget this completely and are abusing their power completely, which is absolutely wrong. Politicians thinking about the elections want to present their good face in front of everyone through the media so that their popularity increases.

Politics is a game of interest though but i wonder why celebrities are entering into politics now, what's the need. I just read recently that Davido wants to pause his music career to pursue politics. What's the recent interest of celebrities in politics all about exactly? Anyways, politics is for everyone but those who are voted into public offices should know they are there for the interest of the people and not for their own interest. I have a lot of people around me who are into politics but i have never shown interest in politics even though i won't kick against anyone who is interested but they should learn to bring the dividends of democracy closer to the people.

Politicians are supposed to be popular, they meant to be known by the entire population because they represent the people in government positions or parliament. I don't understand what you mean by politicians drag Media space with celebrities, because politicians are celebrated and they are well known celebrities in most society. If op had understood the role of the political elected person he would have known that seeing them on the social media isn't a competition with anybody but is actually there job they are doing, immediately someone took office media press would be on them on different interviews regarding the office and some information they would also like to no concerning the development of the state so actually you are right and non of those things matters in anyway. The way Nigerians even make judgement is that if any politicians doesn't come sometimes in social media means they don't have the ability to be there.

It's high time we understand that politics is just a game of interest and these people vying for political positions are doing so for their personal interest and not for the interest of the masses that's why you see them not performing any of their civic responsibilities and duties as servants once they get into power, they are there to embezzle public funds and build their future and business and those are the setbacks we keep having as a nation.

Davido has already made name for himself and very popular so if he wants to venture into politics I think he's not doing that to get popular it will be for making more money because in Nigeria politics has been turned into a ground for making money and not for service and making policies that will be favorable to the masses, all we yearn for is the dividends of democracy even if they will loot funds.

It is a common thing in Nigeria, most holders of public offices don't know their responsibilities. The only time they show commitment to discharging their duties are during election periods and that is for media capture since most of those relief materials don't reach the intended beneficiaries. the government officials in this country lost direction a long time ago and that is why we need to collectively effect a change in our leaders starting from the top come next year.
