I always check the team records before making any sort of wager.
But a team's club history from years back often has little to nothing to do with the possible outcome of a present day match.

In my own opinion, I will with the past performance before I can bet on them. Although, at times my predictions can be wrong, as thing may not be the way I wanted but what I will just do its to just to go for the team my instincts told me, because I have to conclude that even if one check the teams past history, it is possible that their results might not be true. That is why I will do what I can to just take it as game and if my guess is right, I will win but if its doesn't, I won't be worry about it as far as I'm playing with the amount I can comfortably let go.

There was a time when Manchester United was a formidable team in Europe, those days you could even pick them even when they are two goals down and be rest assured that would still come back to win but in recent times the club seems to have lost that status, and now if you were to pick them you'd notice that even against a small team they would still give Manchester United an outrageous odd just to attract bettors.

Another example is the current Real Madrid team. Real is known to be the most successful club in Europe but I might not bet on them against a formidable side. The club is currently going through a hard time. They have an experienced coach and players are disunited. If you consider the history of Real its great but their current form is not encouraging. Therefore checking the recent performance of a football club is more important.

If a club was once good but went to to bottom of the league table, before the club get to the bottom, I will not be betting on the club anymore after I noticed it is either drawing or losing most matches. I noticed that you are right, but not that the club are on the top but they are not good like the previous seasons, the betting sites still give them a odd that can make you think the clubs are still good. Generally, gambling is a game of luck, any match can be lost, no matter how good your prediction is.

The Truth is that performance varies especially in football, you might see a team performing so well this season but coming back the next season you will see that alot has changed as they are no longer performing as they used to. And of course this is just a normal thing, and also, since football is a game of competition of course those teams that didn't perform well the previous season would look for a way to make improvement the following season just like that.

Although, there are some teams that has been performing so well from season to season, those are the teams I like betting on.

Especially if you meet the real rival, namely Barcelona, which is usually called El Clasico which provides the most exciting matches during the Spanish league.
Look at how the history of the two big football clubs is that they compete against each other with their best strategy and their best players.

Some of the best easy players also participated in the match, so both had the same strength, and if you look at the history that happened it is quite difficult to determine who will win.

But looking at some data about strategy and players who will enter in the first half can also be an indicator of who will excel,

It must be safe betting when betting on Real Madrid, they are not in good shape to risk heavily on them, at their worse need to consider betting safe unless they will become the reason behind why majority of your tickets ends in losses. Real Madrid are one of the biggest clubs, the most decorated club of our time, seeing Madrid with all that has been happening is unbelievable, for their standard, i think they should consider shuffling the team or fixing at best.

In past years Blackburn and Leicester won the PL. Blackburn plays in the Championship and Leicester start the next campaign in League One. There is no history for Blackburn or Leicester if they play the Gunners or Man City in the League cup or FA cup. Their achievements and history is different to Liverpool and Man Utd. Their history does not affect my decision.

Match history is no longer the only thing which we have to be looking at before making our decision aside from some players leaving the club, changes of coach and other minor changes which could affect their performance. Other smaller teams they could have easily beaten or used to easily beat might have also levelled up their own skills, so we just don't have to decide based on the past performance.

To some extent club history has an added advantage to the gambler because he has to look at the head to head meetings of the club he wants to stake on but though in some cases if you solely depend on the history you might not get the results you want to win, let's take a look at Arsenal and Chelsea over the years Chelsea has been dominating the north London derbies by history but when Arteta came in as coach the game has turned around and Arsenal had literally won Chelsea 11 times in their meetings, so club history must time needs to be overlooked and predict based on the current performance of a team.

We can't gamble or place bets without looking out for the club history because it's important to note and know where your analysis come from but either ways history doesn't win bets, it's all about the current form of a team at that moment so drawing conclusions from history might affect you as a gambler due to lost of form from a particular team and when the team is not doing well.

History of the club is meaningful, but not only wins in it. And deeper you want to go, more insight you would get.

Everything else that happens in the club is relevant. Let's say that new head coach comes and you can start looking at the history from there. If there's an instant growth in performance, then past data from that history doesn't weigh that much. Also there could be a change of ownership, and motive behind that counts. Does the owner see it as an investment, or a bling status symbol? Are those new owners willing to invest in right things or not?

But no matter how deep you research, there's the other team playing as well, and you are better off knowing their history as well.

But would that matter in the end? You might have better change to guess the winner, but bookmakers have likely already counted that into odds. It's not how many bets you win, but if odds are worth it.

MU always fight against Leeds and against Liverpool. Leeds has some achievements in its history. But today Leeds and Liverpool class extremely differs. The only thing that you can predict for both these teams - they will try their best to win MU.

Club history, old achievements may be useful for club(lots of fans - lots of tickets, more money for transfers as example) but it is useless for analyze todays` teams. I mostly use last 2-3 seasons in analyze.

What most bookies are using to give odd to a match is the present build up and statistics of the both club that are involved.
Most of us do use the previous statistics to check the team they are going to support if they are going to win or lose a bet.
